I’d say she has an affinity for this stone because she has always felt super drawn too it. When she’s around it she feels very calm and relaxed. She typically keeps one in her mane when going somewhere new!

Although there isn't always much physical resemblance, Burgess finds shale to be a rock that particularly calls to her!

The sounds that shale makes, clattering and skittering over each other in its journey down the cliffs is a welcome one, like the sound of water moving in a brook. It is a soothing sound, and Burgess wishes she could emulate that sound in her movements, the fluidity and joy of ringing rock.
While the shale beds can be hard to find footing on, with the rocks slipping every which way, journeying to the shale beds is worthwhile in its own right; sometimes, if she can find the right rock to turn over, strange ghosts emerge from the mix of brown and black, some like strange insects and some like clouds pressed into the surface. These little gifts from the rock are an extra joy, and Burgess delights in imagining stories of how these patterns came to be on the rocks, her own personal world.

This is chiastolite! According to Wikipedia, it is a variety of andalusite. The black cross inclusions are made up of graphite, which is the reason this stone was called lapis crucifer (cross stone) in old books of mineralogy!

Miss Magdalene the WME has a fondness for the stone because of the unique look it has with the graphite crosses. The raw, unpolished stones also look much more like her gorgeous, swirly coat!

This equid's name is Suds, and she is lovingly called this due to her coat looking like soapstone!

Soapstone is a metamorphic type of rock, and is what is called a talc-schist. This means types of stone that have visible layers of minerals, and in this case, stones that are primarily made out of talc!

This type of stone has a lot of different looks to it. Some look really close to Suds, and others look more like marble due to the varying differences in talc content, ranging from 30% through 80%.

Soapstone has a lot of uses, from being used in statues (such as the huge Rio de Janeiro statue), blacksmith forges, electrical insulation, and cooking! In construction it is typically used in areas you would see granite or marble. Suds really likes the versatility of soapstone, and how each rock can be drastically different from the next - all while just being talc, the same thing that makes baby powder!
