Falling Stars Last Post Last Reply Clan TerritoryNote: Jeez, it's been a while huh - like 5 months ;D... Apologies for any errors, trying to get back in the groove of exploring lol.[1,475 words]
Welp, SwiftStar knew she messed up when she decided not to hunt, nor forage, and decided to go on an adventure instead.
The first error? Not memorizing exactly where every Oasis was. The sun was now high, and despite it being Greenleaf the Scorching Mesa sure did live up to it's name, and she very not very bemused by the sweat trickling down her fur, leaving it greasy and wet. Oh how she longed to hide back in her den within the crater, avoid the oppressing heat, and actually enjoy the day instead of wracking her brain for the nearest Oasis.
Wandering around, she ignored all the prey, knowing that she wouldn't be able to pursue for long. Her paw steps growing slower and more lethargic and her head lowered to look at the craggily ground.
"I'm doomed, aren't I" she mewled, rolling her head around, when suddenly she spotted it. Or rather, heard it. Her ears prickled and whirled around as she heard running water, close, very close. SwiftStar looked like a fool, ears spinning around eagerly until she finally figured out where exactly the water was, and promptly ran like a mouse out of claws in the direction where she heard the water coming from. And finally, peeking over a dune, she saw it. An oasis, one of the ones she'd stopped at on her journey to the fallen star. It was just as she remembered it, with plenty of ferns and a lot more water, just sitting in the middle of the Scorching Mesa. Like a haven in a rough world, but she spotted something. Well, she thought she did, there was movement but SwiftStar didn't see anything as she approached. The average sized she-cat approached the water pool, bowing her head to lap at the water. Face twisting in relief as her dry mouth was finally eased by the great drink.
SwiftStar's relaxation didn't last long, it never did, as she heard a twig snap and her head snapped up, swiveling towards where the noise came from. A nearby bush.
"Who's there?" she snarled "Show yourself" she stood up fully, hackles raised. When she heard a.. squeak? What was the deal with that? SwiftStar slowly stalked forward, the bush rustled and who came bolting out the other side but another cat! One which she'd never seen before, a gray cat. Or blue? No, gray, they were just covered in water, utterly sopping wet. It made the already small cat seem even smaller than what they probably were.
"Who are you?" Swift'Star chuffed
"I-uh.. Streaking'Sun?" the smaller cat mewled, pushed up against a larger, more woody bush.
"Well, Streaking'Sun, why were you stalking me, huh?" Swift'Star asked, cocking her head as she sat next to the pool of water. The she cat could practically smell the fear coming from the smaller she-cat. That, and the scent of a wet cat, which she couldn't help but snicker at. Why would Streaking'Sun get herself in a position to fall into a body of water. It would've left her defenseless against predators and prey.
Streaking'Sun, meanwhile, she was shivering away, cold water and warm surroundings was not a very nice combination.
"I.. uh, well, rather. I didn't really know you..?" Streaking'Sun mumbled
"And?" SwiftStar asked
"Well.." Streaking'Sun trailed off, "I didn't really want a confrontation"
"I feel like this would've been better for you if you hadn't tried to hide. but regardless, where are you from? I haven't seen you anywhere around here. And trust me, I've met every cat from the Barrenfoot mountains to the Crow Caw Canyon." SwiftStar commented
"Oh, uh.. I'm not from around here" Streaking'Sun mumbled
"Really? Obviously, but where are you from?" Swift'Star chuffed, she did not trust this new, strange cat at all, especially because she looked. Odd, she was pretty small to start off, which raised the question as to how she'd made it this far in the Oasis. Plus, the weird orange streaks in the she cat's fur didn't exactly look. Well, didn't look normal, and she just had a flower in her fur, a perfectly preserved flower no less! There was no flowers within a good few canyons of here, and no flower Swift'Star had ever seen could stay perfectly preserved, not even wilt, on a journey like that.
"Well.. It's better if I show you" Streaking'Sun mumbled, then stood up and began to walk East, not looking back to see if Swift'Star would follow, since the she cat just assumed the other cat would follow along, since she was so curious about her. Which was exactly what Swift'Star did, trailing behind the strange cat to see where she came from.
The landscape shifted, the Scorching Mesa shifted into a dry grassland, where water was much easier to come across. The sun was dipping below the horizon behind them, leaving eerie shadows to crease across the land as the stars rose in the sky. There were flowers here, not many and definitely not the kind on Streaking'Sun's back, but flowers none the less.
"I've never seen this place before" Swift'Star mused
"I'm not surprised, no cat comes out here" Streaking'Sun commented
"Well, then why are you out here?" Swift'Star asked
"You'll see." Streaking'Sun promised, as the smaller cat kept on walking onwards. For someone much smaller who needed to walk more to go the same distance as Streaking'Sun she was going quite good. Swift'Star was starting to tire, while Streaking'Sun just kept going. They continued onwards, hopping over stones going through all sorts of rivers and streams, nudging their way through reeds. But the most unnerving of all? Hopping over small canyons, where the two ends of the goddess, Terra, were the closest they'd be for what was likely miles, maybe hundreds of them. Lucky enough for Swift'Star, Streaking'Sun seemed to know every trail and shortcut along the way, which made the taller she cat wonder how many times this cat had travelled these lands.
"How much farther?" Swift'Star inquired
"Close." Streaking'Sun promised
And that's when Swift'Star saw it, like a star over the horizon a small building came into view. A small barn it seemed, run down with what looked to be a rusty monster just plopped out front. Her hackles raised and she stared at the monster.
"Why are you heading towards that!" Swift'Star hissed
"Relax, it hasn't moved in my parents, nor their parents, lifetimes" Streaking'Sun chuckled
"It hasn't?" Swift'Star slowly stepped forward
"Yep, I don't think it'll move, ever for that matter." Streaking'Sun said. Swift'Star sighed with relief, she was growing fond of this particular she cat. The more time she spent with Streaking'Sun the less she wanted to leave the cat.
"This is where I was born, raised too" Streaking'Sun said, relaxed, the she cat wandered into the barn and hopped up on a hay bale that was probably older than both of the cats.
"But,, you have a clan name?" Swift'Star said "Where'd you get that from?"
"My mother's idea. I've never seen a cat that wasn't a part of my family" Streaking'Sun stated
"Oh. Was your mother a clan cat?" Swift'Star asked
"She used to be, she left for whatever reason." Streaking'Sun mewled and stretched out. Swift'Star hopped up on the haybale and sat close to Streaking'Sun, but maintained a respectable distance.
"Admittedly I haven't seen another cat for a few years too" Swift'Star commented
"Well, then we're in the same boat." Streaking'Sun said
"Yeah.. hah" Swift'Star said
"You're acting weird, you okay?" Streaking'Sun sat up with a yawn
"Just.. wondering." Swift'Star mumbled
"Wondering what?" Streaking'Sun asked, her head cocked as she looked into Swift'Star's eyes, maybe a little too friendly
"That flower, where is it from? I've never seen anything like it." Swift'Star asked, leaning over to look at the red and yellow flower.
"Oh, someone gave it to me. I was lost and a cat I didn't know gave it to me, then escorted me out of the woods." Streaking'Sun commented
"Really?" Swift'Star asked "Sounds like a blessed if you ask me."
"I'd bet, though I never got confirmation." The smaller she cat laughed "Come on, let me show you something"
"Okay," Swift'Star chuckled, hopping down from the haybale and trotting alongside of Streaking'Sun. Looking up at the sky, where the stars were brighter than usual. It was a beautiful, cloudless greenleaf. Swift'Star couldn't help but smile at how the day had turned out, Streaking'Sun guided Swift'Star to a feild of fireflies. Swift'Star sat near the edge, watching curiously as Streaking'Sun ran around, full of boundless energy. Swift'Star let the day fade into night, feeling the bliss that had finally stayed.
"Take it easy, tiger" Swift'Star teased, as the moon rose to it's high, and for once. Swift'Star didn't suspect anything bad would happen, the fluffy feeling in her chest soothing the cat into idle watching.
