Create a game design document for a WME themed game. Can be any kind of game- board game, video game, card game, puzzle game, etc. Bonus points if you manage to create game assets or a working demo of your game.
You can use any software at your disposal and may link to external files.
What is a game design document?
A game design document is a file which is used as a reference by game developers while making a game. Like a blueprint to work from.
Requirements
Your document needs to have:
- Intro:
- A title or game name
- A short overview of your game
Mechanics: - A description of the gameplay mechanics (how the game works)
- Rules/ objectives
- Brief overview of the actions/moves a player can make in the game
- Description of how the game progresses. Does it have levels? Does it get harder over time? Are there any rewards as the player progresses? How does a player win?
Story: - Description of the setting, plot, and characters, if any.
Aesthetics & Audio: - Description of the visual art style the game might use. You may supplement this description with images (you do not have to create new art for this, you may use existing examples with citations. Original art will impress us though!)
- A UI/UX design layout/ diagram (how the game will look to the user. Be sure to point out any reasons for your design choices.
- If the game can use sound effects or music, provide a description of the desired audio design. Again, you may use examples. Self composed work will impress us but is not necessary!
Production - What's the budget for your game? (You can go as crazy as you want)
- How many developers are required? What are their roles going to be?
- What's the timeline? Give development milestones.
Submission & Deadline
Create a post in this thread to submit, using the form below. Since the document is likely to be long, we'd suggest linking to a thread made especially for this contest, or linking to a file hosting system like deviant art Sta.sh or google docs. Use whatever you're comfortable with but please ensure it can be viewed without having to make an account.
You only need to provide references for direct quotes and other people's images/diagrams.
You have two months (end date 15th February 2025. Feel free to remind me to judge it at that time! No hard cutoff, will give a day extension for submission delays and emergencies. A longer extension can be granted by popular vote of entrants).
This is just for fun, but we want to see some really in depth, creative ideas! Good luck!
