primara settled in the warm grass, the moonlight shining down and warming the atmosphere around her. her tail curing around her, the tip flicking, she peered over at forest, her eyes shimmering with the stars. it was almost time for them to release their lanterns together, something they did annually with each other.
this year was different however, this year they'd finally harnessed their powers. they felt older, stronger, better, and more confident. it was as if they'd become new marumis over the last year.
primara smiled softly, standing, her tail coming to a stop. "let's get our lanterns," she said softly before heading to collect their lanterns. forest followed eagerly behind her - he'd always been more energetic and excited than she had. as they walked over, primara couldn't help but notice the others had already received their halos, solidifying the magic coursing through their veins and their worthiness to be a fairy. her smile fell a bit, and forest picked up on it - they'd always been rather in tune with each other.
"what's wrong, prim?" forest inquired, a puzzled look on his face. he couldn't understand why she'd be upset, so many things were going right for them, it was going to be
their year.
shaking her head a bit, she spoke, "don't worry about it." her wand lighting up a bit and her wings shimmering and glowing, she picked up a lantern and passed it to forest before retrieving her own. "this is much easier to do now that we can pick them up with our magic."
forest nodded in agreement as they headed back to their spot. by the time they'd arrived, it was time to release their lanterns. a plethora of lanterns flew into the air around them, lighting up the night sky, flickering as if a million fireflies were in the air. forest released his lantern, his eyes following its every move. primara watched forest's lantern, almost as if she was hesitant to release her own.
forest's eyes glanced over at primara, seeing the hesitance festering in her. inching closer, he wrapped his wing around her back. primara exhaled softly, releasing her lantern. it was the last lantern of the night, flying into the sky after the others as if it were desperately trying to catch up - just how she'd felt with her magic before, and now her halo.
forest nudged her softly, gesturing her to follow. as she did, forest lead her to an elder fairy. there, he revealed they'd been speaking to the elders about earning their halos that night—the elder fairy's halo glew as she bestowed upon the two young fairies their own halos. primara's eyes lit up once more, as she wrapped forest in a hug, her excitement barely containable. the small crown atop her head, the small plant atop his, it felt right.
