Prompt;
Tikchik peered up at the sparkling night sky with a sigh, his eyes searching until they settled on his favorite star. A soft, slightly red hue made it stand out a bit from the others surrounding it as he let himself drift into a memory of fonder times.

"Mama, tell me about the sky again. Pleeeeease?" Tikchik's little voice came out with a sweet whimper, accentuated by the large puppy-dog eyes he liked to use to get out of trouble.

Linsik let out a long, overly dramatic sigh as if she were annoyed despite the smile betraying reality, curling her larger body around his small form. One paw reached out to the sky as she spoke, her voice drawing little Tikchik into her mysterious tale, "Long ago, a Creature of Darkness prowled through the empty void, a lonely husk, begging for anything new and wonderful to happen. After years of yearning and never receiving, he gave up, curling in on himself in silence. Time passed in his solemn solitude until he reopened his eyes. In the far distance, he spotted something new. A Light. Uncurling from his ball of sadness, the Creature began to close in on the Light, curiosity and excitement spurring him on. The light was large and magnificent, almost as vast as he himself, but it moved away when he drew near, seeming afraid of the endless black within him."

Linsik paused to glance down at Tikchik who was watching with wide, earnest eyes, waiting for more of the story she'd told hundreds of times by now, "What next, Mama. What did the creature do?!"

A laugh filled with warmth and love slipped past Linsik's muzzle before she continued her tale, nuzzling the side of her son's face. "Well," she began anew, "the Creature recognized the Light's fear and withdrew with dejection, wondering if there was anything he could do to alleviate it. He pondered for many decades, his longing for this light growing within. One day, the Creature noticed a small, red light within himself, pulsing softly with a faint, hopeful glimmer. He suddenly had an idea and grinned, spending the next eon multiplying this light within himself, playing with the colors, brightness, and size, creating a kaleidoscope worthy of a creature of Light. After ensuring he was presentable, the creature neared the Light again, watching as it stayed put instead of fleeing. The red light within began to grow and thrum as he grew closer, finally placing himself right up against the light, and the universe began to shift. Worlds took shape, stars spread far and wide, moons formed, and things set themselves into motion. Together, they created the universe as we know it, forever dancing around us with joy. That red star there, that..is the Creature’s beating heart.”

Linsik smiled down at Tikchik’s sleeping form, laying her head above his to join his peaceful slumber.

Tikchik awoke the next morning with a bittersweet smile, gazing up at the Light in the early morning sky.

Prompt; There are times of year when there are never any visible stars, the two suns divided on either side of the planet and blocking out the faint light of distant stars. There are other times when the suns are so close together that the night sky is such a brilliant contrast that none could help but admire its beauty. On those night, many of Rel'yq's creatures stay up late to watch as the constellations above them move across the sky.

Ankden was fascinated by the stars from the moment he was born. He was even named after them, having been born during one of the most spectacular nights his parents had ever seen. Ankden was especially fascinated by a red star that seemed to move across the sky. It was not bound to a yearly calendar in its movements, but it did have a regular pattern to them. Ankden began tracking the star as a youngling and in his early adulthood, he presented his theory to the astronomers. They laughed at him. His wandering star, known as a "planet", an ancient word meaning wanderer, simply moved on it's on will like their suns. They had never observed the pattern to it.

Ankden argued that it was because the pattern was so long, but they told him to not bother coming back until he'd seen multiple repetitions. So he studied the star, the planet, and made many charts tracking its movements. Eventually, he had enough proof that the astronomers were forced to accept the theory and investigate it themselves. They found that there were multiple planets, each one moving more slowly than the last. Ankden was given an award for his discovery.

Congrats!! I adored this so much, I'm such a sucker for creation myths and I can't wait to see some more of Tikchik's story.

Since there were only two entries, I'm also awarding an RU to ArithMedic!
