Mark! (Ignore the bump I just needed to find this again lol)
First prompt: tell me how you came across this wildie at the Carnival - minimum of 150 words
When I first arrived to the carnival, the very last thing on my mind was another horse. Lord knows I don’t need another horse. But every time I wandered past the corrals, this little buckskin mare kept catching my eye. Her eyes were filled with fire and she stood tall and proud, despite being quite average in height. She was so filthy I could hardly see her pattern beneath! But her eyes spoke to me the loudest and I knew, despite my intentions. I ave horse free that day, that this mare would be coming home with me. As that particular day at the carnival was ready to come to an end, I was there, back at the corrals. My ticket had been cast and she was officially mine. Once the carnival was over she’d be coming home with me. If I could get her in the trailer that is! I watched as she pranced and snorted around the paddock, pinning her ears and squealing at any horse that got too close. She was trouble that’s for sure. But she was my trouble.
Second prompt: tell me how you have started to gain their trust and Halter break them - minimum 150 words
Our first official meeting happened on a Sunday evening. As the trailer pulled out of the driveway, we sat there watching each other carefully. Her eyes still wild as the last time I saw her, but not a hint of malice within them. I simply dropped hay for her and left. The next day, I carefully entered her pen. She eyed me up suspiciously. A long crop in my hand, I gently rubbed it up and down her shoulder. I can’t say she didn’t mind, but she didn’t flinch and she didn’t falter. She eyed me the same way she had been, quietly. That’s how our first day together went. Rubbing her with the crop until she allowed me close enough to replace the crop with my hand. Her coat was grimy, but after rubbing some dirt off, it was quite silky. The next day, I brought back the crop, but also a rope with a simple metal ring on the end.I slowly drooped the rope over her neck, reached below with the crop to draw the other end back towards me, then ran it through the metal ring and over her nose. A makeshift halter. From there, everything worked quite quickly and smoothly. Working towards leading, then tying and grooming, and so on and so forth.
Third prompt: tell me how they do first time under saddle and how their grooming went - minimum of 150 words
For the last few weeks we had been working up to this. Slowly and surely, but now we were ready. Her first saddling was… interesting. No crazy explosions, although I could swear I could glares she sent me here and there. As if to say, oh how lucky you are that I’m a tolerant creature. Today started the same as the last few weeks have. First grooming. All over with the curry comb, which was her very favorite. Then a hard brush, soft brush, and on to her hooves. Now that was her least favorite. She would lift her leg when asked, then promptly slam her foot down before I could bring it up to clean. Followed with a little snort, which felt suspiciously like a laugh. After we managed that, it was on to saddling and for something new. Tacking up went as smoothly as it always does, which I’m always so grateful for. Then, off we went to line up at the mounting block. It was there I hesitated. She sat quietly during this moment of hesitation, but I still felt as though I was about to jump on a fire breathing dragon. One foot in the stirrup, one leg over, another leg in the stirrup and…. Nothing.
