First Prompt: (
158 words) "
Tell me how you came across this wildie at the Carnival."
Arabelle Brachenridge giddily hopped around the carnival from attraction to attraction with a child-like glee in her eyes; the last time she had been to anything as fun and community fueled as this day was a block party or two when she was in her pre-teens. The games, prizes, rides, and, to her biggest surprise, horses, were all in one fantastical place! Of course the young farm owner stopped by the booths and kiosks that were selling colorful and alluring trinkets and the like, but what really stole and kept her attention hostage were the horses. In all her days as a farmer on her familial land, horses and the like had been the one constant and favorite animal she worked with, and cared deeply for, and there was a certain Very messy palomino. She couldn't take her eyes off of him, his grace despite his muddy state and his aloof seeming demeanor. She had to meet him.
Second Prompt: (
248 words) "
Tell me how you have started to gain their trust and Halter break them."
Trusting seemed to be the easy part, once Arabelle had approached the muddy what she came to learn was a stallion, she slowly stepped up to the fence separating the equines from the rest of the festival. Two high perked ears and a knowing but calm stare greeted Arabelles warm, clothed mouth smile. Not wanting to spook the hooved stranger, she kept her teeth hidden even though all she wanted to do was beam like a schoolgirl at her prom date, but she kept her composure and slowly extended a hand- the first step to gauging the interest and/or ire of the animal in question.
When the stallion slowly strode over and sniffed her hand as if they had know each other far longer than a few minutes, that was all the sign the farm girl needed. After a long talk with the runner of the festival and making the subsequent deal of purchasing the horse she had unintended but bonded to, he supplied her with the kit necessary to lead the stallion around and allow them to learn more about each other in a way no other method would allow. The intelligent, much more so than the farm girl realized every moment she spent with him, lowered his head to allow her to slip the strange cloth wrappings around his head, giving a small whinny of distress and soft jump of his front legs into the air before Arabelle's soft whispers and pets to his withers.
Third Prompt: (
300 words) "
Tell me how they do first time under saddle and how their grooming went."
Back at home in Brachenridge Ranch, Arabelle Brachenridge herself brought her newest stallion into a small empty paddock for their first real team building exercise, the dreaded first mounting of The Saddle. She knew this would be a make or break in the horses willfulness to accept saddles in the future, but she also had the knowledge and gentle touch to make the step one they could both take with ease, together. She began with petting his back from withers to rump, softly back and forth, the with a brush. Slow swipes, soft whispers of encouragement.
After what she felt was an appropriate amount of time soothing the, admittedly, very calm stallion, came the big moment, the evil saddle monster itself. She picked up the heavy piece of gear and walked to his side where he could observe it, and observe he did. The hot breath of his curious sniffs made Arabelle giggle softly, but she remained stil until he was done examining the device. Then, with another respectful pet down the back, Arabelle heaved the saddle onto the stallion and gently as he could, though the weight was still enough to cause the stallion to stand at attention and pin his ears part of the way back. After giving him a long moment to understand what was on his back wasn't going to hurt him, the farm girl then slowly tightened the girth around his abdomen, slowing or stopping when he became restless until the saddle was secure and both of them felt safe in on another's company. A quick mane and tail brush to finish up their first big day was the perfect end to said day, once the saddle was off Arabelle would give the stallion the finest, softest mane and tail any horse could ask for.
