why did everyone have to hate kittypets so much.. Now she has to hide her gift... That was From her friend....

Before hyacinth became a member of NightClan she lived on a run-down dock that the two legs didn't come to much anymore. One of the only Two-legs, or humans, that came was Marley and her cat, Peanut. Peanut was a strong, golden tabby with light blue eyes. When I first saw them I tried to run, but peanut saw a flash of my fur and set up a trap.

It was a few days after peanut first came to the dock that I saw it. A dragon... Stuffed thing, and even through the fear, curiosity made her walk up to it. And then Peanut jumped out of nowhere and pinned her to the ground.

"Who are you?"

He growled

"i-i'm hyacinth"

She said, trying to escape and run off... but it was No luck.

Cat Name: Mvidi
Gender: male
Rank: Ntomi-warrior
Clan: Spirits of the Mayombé
Age: 30 moons
Prompt:

Getting over a grudge was overrated, Mvidi thought, after a recent argument with Nkatu about the matter. Nkatu had gently pushed Mvidi to consider forgiving Mvidi’s brother but Mvidi wouldn’t even speak his name.

“Musantu means well now, I know what he did was wrong but he has worked on changing! Doesn’t he deserve another chance?” Nkatu had asked

“Don’t speak his name to me,” Mvidi huffed back, “His actions should have consequences and this is one of them.”

Musantu himself had even come all the way from the other clan he was a part of to ask for forgiveness. Mvidi refused to see him and so Musantu left after talking with some other cats in the clan.

“What did you do?” One of the kits, at a young enough age to not know not to be nosy, asked.

“I think that’s up to Mvidi to say,” Musantu responded delicately and then turned to leave.

[12 moons earlier]

Mvidi was nervous. Really nervous. He had been preparing for moons for this moment. Most clans in the region had some test for the soon to be warriors and today it was his turn. He stood in line next to Musantu, his brother, the two of the among other apprentices waiting to be warriors. He was worried for Musantu. The last test was a race that tested speed and stamina. The cat that was last would have to wait until the next trials to try again, which could be up to a 12 moon wait. Mvidi shivered at the thought. He had been training with Musantu and knew his brother was possibly the slowest. please let Musantu pass with me

“Get ready!” The leader announced and all the cats shifted into a position, prepared to run at any moment. “Go!”

Instead of accelerating forward Mvidi was aware he was tumbling sideways and down. What had happened? As he landed in the mud, fresh from last night he started to piece together what had happened. He had been pushed and seeing that he was pushed from his left… Musantu??
The race wasn’t over but there was no way he’d be able to catch up now, especially since one of his legs hurt from the fall. 12 whole moons he’d have to wait in shame. He was already feeling embarrassed just hearing all the murmurs. As he looked up at Musantu finishing the race in the distance he vowed to never forgive him

[present day]

Mvidi sat under a tree and watched raindrops fall heavily. The sounds of the rain blocked out the sound of Nkatu approaching until he was just a few steps away.

Nkatu finally spoke after a couple moments of silence, “Musantu came again today.”

“I know…” Mvidi said tiredly, “I miss him.”

“I know what happened was awful but Musantu seems to be really genuinely sorry. Does your warrior status mean more to you than family?”

Mvidi sat quietly for a while before finally speaking, “I’ll go to him tomorrow. I think I’m done being angry.”

cat name: Erebus
Gender: mostly incorporeal ; goes by he/they
rank: exemplar
clan: salted stone
age: uncountable
prompt: [672 words]

In life, he was considered mighty.

His fur was golden, once- like the great lions of long-ago stories, like the rays of the sun. They called him a fighter, a champion- and fight he did, defending his home and his loved ones from anything that would threaten them.

He grew up told that the greatest thing he could be was strong- unyielding, unwilling to budge, strong and sure in what he stood for, gentle and firm in equal measure. And he tried- oh, he tried. He persevered and fought and bloodied his claws, and grew, and grew.

The enemy that felled him, in the end, was not one with physical claws. It did not tear his fur or break his skin or leave him with visible marks. No, the thing that felled the great hero Erebus was a sickness, eating him from the inside out.

Even to the end, when the pain had sunk its invisible fangs into every inch of him, even as it hurt to run, to move, to open his eyes- Erebus persisted, fighting for as long as he was able.

It was on the eve of one such battle- a challenger come to take away his home and his family's lands- that his great strong heart finally gave out. And his family, his tribe, who had hidden behind the strength of their champion for so long, rallied to fight on without him- for his honor, and for their own.

    And Erebus passed on.

The first thing he woke to was warmth- soft, beating warmth all around him, as though he laid in the curve of his mother's belly once more.

"Welcome, child," a voice spoke to him. It was like no voice he had heard before, sounding as a great clap of thunder in his ears, reverberating through to his bones. He opened his eyes, and found that he did not hurt anymore.

"My- my family," he croaked, voice hoarse in his throat. He had tried, but it had become hard to speak in the last days, as he neared his end. "Are they-"

"They have taken up arms in your stead." The voice softened, the barest bit. "They will fight, and they will perish-"

"No." Erebus struggled to his feet, looking frantically about. Where was the voice coming from. "No! I have fought for them all my life- I would fight for them beyond it, too! Who are you? How do you know they will die?"

"I am the All-Maker." His ears rang with the force of the name. "You are mine, my child- you and your family, and the lands you live in, and even those who come to oppose you. I know the fates of all those things that are mine."

"If you know it, then surely it can be changed!" Erebus shouted, voice cracking with desperation. "Change it- save them. Or end it without a fight, if you care so much for those who would destroy us. Don't- don't let everything I have done come to naught, the moment I die."

The voice hummed. Erebus waited, heart in his throat.

"Your love for them is so strong," mused the All-Maker. "Yes. I think it would be good, for them to see the strength of it."

Erebus opened his mouth to reply- and the All-Maker was no longer there.

He blinked, and the warmth fell away, and he was cold again, and inhaling sharply, back in his home, on familiar ground.

And there was his family, gaping at him-

-for his golden fur had turned the color of dusk, and around his shoulders coiled a creature bright as flame, a symbol of the All-Maker's blessing.

Or so it has been told- every legend of Erebus, the Exemplar of love and protection, varies somewhat in the telling.

But all carry this truth at the heart: that his love for them was strong enough for him to overcome death itself, to die and be sent back to continue on, with all the strength in his renewed heart.

Username: quirky;
Cat Name: Pailos
Gender: Genderfluid
Rank: Star hopper of Legend
Clan: The Principality
Age: 3000 moons after being immortalized, but about 36 moons in the story
Prompt: 1125 words
Pailos was a mortal whose village was plagued by fires. The quaint town was settled in a thick bamboo forest, encased by towering cliffs adorned with jagged edges and fickle paths. The strong toms of the bunch were trained in mountain climbing, battle, and hunting to provide for the weaker few left down below. For eons, the upper forests would catch aflame at seemingly random intervals. It would spook wildlife and taint rivers, restricting the potential blossoming of the little village. The elders gathered for moons, theorizing what might be causing these flames. Finally, a verdict came in an omen of a burning tuft of orange hair fluttering down the cliffs and into the village center. It was a dragon demon. And it was angry. So almost as long as the fires had been raging, the keenest warriors of the village had been sent out to battle the demon in hopes of quenching the hatred it showed. Generations and generations of the strongest-bred warriors had perished by the time the village's unlikely savior was born. Pailos was delivered into this world in a sickly state, already halfway to his deathbed before he was halfway through his life. Despite having one paw on death's doorstep, the kit survived and grew up in the already harsh environment with eternally doting parents who'd never let him so much as step on a leaf. As was customary, since the first great fire, Pailos was told tales of the brave warriors who fought the dragon demon and succumbed to its flames. He hadn't thought much of this predicament since he'd known no other life, but after his brother, the most promising warrior in generations, didn't return to camp on his first campaign, he awoke to the true horrors of the beast. As a sheltered kitten, Pailos had only one genuine friend who believed in his strength: his brother. As they grew up together, Pailos watched his brother train and go off to school in the village. He had always looked forward to his return, so he could hear of all that his brother learned, and even practice a little of the skills. Sunny days were spent under their shared peach tree, telling each other tales and imagining adventures. Now that they were grown, his brother encouraged him more and more to get out of their den and explore the world...Now he was gone because of those adventures...The loneliness crept in the night after he heard the news. It was sneaky at first, a mere shadow that followed his own. But it soon grew in strength, whispering in his ear for days, tainting his heart and fueling an unfamiliar feeling: anger. Under the cover of a misty twilight, he flew the nest with a dagger at his side and fire in his heart that raged hotter than the mountain-high bonfires of the demon. Through bamboo clumps and underbrush, the feline ran and ignored the pain of his muscles' overexertion. Eventually, he reached an ominously large and dark cave that seemed to devour any and all light surrounding it. Stalagmites jutted through the earth and whispering tendrils of air wound their way through each spire, mimicking an eerie voice. Cautiously, with his heart pounding in his ears, Pailos padded into the cave, his dragger heavy by his side. The cave extended farther than even the sharpest eye could see but he kept going, eager to find the culprit of his brother's misfortune. Pailos rounded a corner and was met with a blast of heat to his face as an alarming scene unfolded around him. A mountainous red-scaled beast lay sleeping in front of him on a pile of glowing-hot coals. Its body was coiled like an unassuming snake. The dragon demon was tufted with orange fur and his head, adorned with massive, sleek horns. With a shaking voice, Pailos called upon the demon to awaken from his slumber. The cat stood their ground as the dragon lifted its head with a rumble in its throat.

"Foul beast, I am here to avenge the death of my brother, which was your unholy doing! You will pay for the insult you have brought to my family, and for the pain you have caused me!" His voice faltered from its imaginarily strong pedestal. "My brother was my only friend in this life...He believed in my strength when others only saw that sickly kitten. And now you've stolen him from me!" The cat launched into battle with the massive beast, pulling his dagger from his side and plunging it deep into the scaly tail. The dragon roared and flicked its tail, sending Pailos stumbling from his feet.

"You mortals are all the same! Such narrow-minded motivations! You all think I wanted to hurt the ones around me? No!" The dragon demon growled and uncoiled its body. "I have been cursed with these flames to burn all that is around me...I was only looking for companionship in this land, but the animals fled when they saw my unwilling destruction...I do not wish to harm your village, these flames are not purposeful..." The dragon bowed its head as the coals' lights dimmed. A glowing gold tear fell from its mighty eye and splashed onto the hot coals. Pailos felt his grip on his dagger loosen as the realization hit him. His brother was not slain by the dragon. The beast was merely cursed to be forever lonely and have no one to lean on. Pailos felt a spark of something calmer in his heart: sympathy.

"I know I am just a cat, but I too have felt loneliness before. I was born such a sickly kitten that my parents dared not let me out of our den. They feared everything that could hurt me, so my only friend was my brother. I was mistaken to come here with an angry heart, and I see that now. I am sorry for your pain, but I too have lost something. Perhaps we can help each other. My brother would want me to be happy and have companionship, and I see that you too are lonely." Pailos kicked his dagger to the side and bowed before the dragon demon. "I humbly extend my token of friendship to you, so that we both may find happiness in the other's company. I do not fear your flames as others do, for I know what you have been through and I understand the grief."

The heat radiating off of the beast seemed to lessen. Pailos looked up and was surprised to see a much smaller dragon before them. It sat neatly in front of the cat and bowed its head in acceptance. It spoke two words that started the bond between feline and immortal beast.

    "Thank you."

No longer did fires rage in the bamboo forest, and no longer did mothers have to send their children off to battle. Peace was restored and the forest thrived from the ashes of old. Pailos and his new companion went off to the stars together, it was said. Legends speak of how the dragon changed Pailos, but it was truly Pailos who changed the dragon. His fires were quelled and his loneliness subsided as they both travelled the stars and became the legendary star hoppers.

Cat Name: Dusk' Dark Glow
Gender: She-cat
Rank: Runaway/Adventurer
Clan: Celestials
Age: 16 constellations
Prompt:
Dusk's Dark Glow set off on her bonding journey at the same time as several other trainees from their village. They wished each other luck on their journeys and split up fairly early. She traveled along the edge of the forest, following her familiar's pull, until she reached the coast. The pull was directing her to go across the water and she had no boat to use, giving her only the option to swim. She rolled a fallen log out of the forest to use to keep from getting too exhausted and pushed it into the water. From there, she grabbed it with her fore-legs and paddled with her hind-legs.

It took her a week of paddling and napping to reach the island she was being pulled to. There were trees with strange fruits hanging from them. Her rations had been soaked on day one of swimming, but she'd been reluctantly eating the soggy food until it started molding. She eagerly crawled up a tree and pulled down several fruits and devoured them, disregarding any possibility of poison for the sake of filling her ravenous stomach.

Once Dusk was full and rested, she began exploring. The pull kept changing directions, which indicated that she was close, but it's movements were almost dizzying. It would be somewhere in front of her one minute and the next was somehow behind her. By this point, she suspected that it was a flying creature. She decided that from here, the best option would to be to find the highest point on the small island.

She figured that the highest point would be roughly the center so she made her way that direction. As she got closer to the center, the incline became steeper and the pull stopped moving, staying firmly in the forward direction. It seemed like her familiar was waiting for at the top. She made her way there and stopped, stunned. A great red dragon stood there, eyes glowing with emotion. It wasn't anger or fear, though. It was curiosity, Dusk could feel it through the pull this close, even though they hadn't bonded yet.

Dusk took a confident step forward and the dragon approached her until they were face to face. Instinctively, they both pressed their forehead together and magic flowed between them. Dusk's blood sung with the power that had always belonged to it and she was overwhelmed, but not pained. She felt alive.

After the bonding concluded, Dusk fell against her familiar, exhausted. Hello. My name is Erin. The dragon said into her mind, a ticklish feeling that made her giggle sleepily. Erin curled around Dusk like a blanket, her scales surprisingly soft. Dusk closed her eyes and drifted into a peaceful sleep.

After Dusk awoke, she and Erin took to the air, an exhilarating experience that made Dusk never want to land. Nevertheless, she had to in order to be recognized as an adult now that she had bonded with her familiar. She landed in front of the Commanders' Hall to the awe and terror of the wandering cats around her. Erin shrunk to a more manageable size and draped across Dusk's back. She walked into the Hall and caught the eye of an attendant. She knew from seeing other's that at this point the attendant should note down her familiar and her magic, but he panicked, ringing a bell and calling for knights.

Dusk was alarmed, but she was swarmed by knights before she could react. She'd been a knight-in-training so she knew that something strange happened for powerful familiars like her dragon but she had expected a celebration, not a to be treated like a... threat?

They corralled her into the council chamber of the Hall, interrupting a meeting being held. There, the council interrogated her and told her, in many more and much fancier words, that she'd have to be confined to the Rulers' residence and be a trophy head because she was too powerful. She knew the history of The Tyrant, but this was too much.

Dusk sent a quick thought to Erin and, before the commanders and knights could react, Erin grew to the size of a horse and swept underneath Dusk then flew out the open window behind the commanders. Although she was conflicted, Dusk knew she could never stay under those rules. Maybe someday she would return, if things changed, but for now she was free.

Rather than choose a destination, Dusk told Erin to just keep going forward. She and Erin would become adventurers and find out who else lived in this vast, beautiful world of theirs.
