There were once three clans, Mountainclan, Rainclan, and Sandclan. Mountainclan and Sandclan were devestated in a war, leaving only a few cats left, which were guided into the protection of Minkstar. Rainclan was wiped out before the war, at the beginning of the drought that led to the war. The drought caused a famine in the area, reduced plant life draining their homes of prey.

Raggedtwist was a warrior in Rainclan who'd been sent out to hunt. She'd been out nearly all day, starved even of the little prey that was at the clan because she was not to return until she caught something or the sun had set. The sun was nearing the horizon when the smell of meat hit her nose and she followed it to an abandoned carcass. Desperately hungry, she dug into the meat. It was not until she had sated her stomach that she realized it was rotten, leaving a foul taste in her mouth and an awful smell in her nose and on her fur. She chewed on some bitter leaves of a nearby dying tree and rolled on the dusty ground until she could no longer smell the rot. Then, she returned to camp, telling the leader that she could not find anything and omitted the rotten meat she ate.

The meat had been diseased, making her sick and then spreading to the rest of the clan. The kits and elders joined Starclan first, then the weakest of the warriors and the apprentices. The rest of the warriors fell prey to the disease one by one, until no one was left with the strength to bury the dead. In some form of divine punishment, Raggedtwist was the last left, even having to watch as the disease separately claimed each of her leader's lives. Then, finally, she too passed on.

In the starry realm of the dead, Raggedtwist was greeted by angry faces of cats she knew and ancestors she didn't they asked whether she regretted bringing the demise of her clan, whether she would repent of her crime and help to protect the remaining to clans. She refused, thinking only of how full she'd felt, how it had let her be the strongest in the clan, even if it was only for a brief moment.
She was banished to the Dark Forest, where she was quickly taken under the wing of cats who she'd only known in tales told to scare kits into obedience.

She told them about the plan Starclan had mentioned to protect the remaining two clans and the cats of the Dark Forest lead her to a faction working specifically to destroy them. They'd used the drought to draw the ears of cats eager for direction and corrupted them, inciting prey theft and jealousy. Raggedtwist helped them discover the cats that Starclan prophesied would stop the war and save the clans and they weeded them out one by one. Unfortunately, one escaped on her death bed and lead the few remaining cats of the two clans to a truce before dying. Now, Raggedtwist and the others are chasing the remnants across the land as Starclan guides them further and further out of reach through a young she-cat named Minkstar.

Cautionary Tale
Raggedtwist's story can serve as a cautionary tale for the clan. The cats can learn from the consequences of cowardice and negligence, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and responsibility in their daily lives.

Once a great Warrior whom lived in the timeline when one of the great leaders of old reigned.

The moonstone glowed softly in the serene glade, casting a tranquil light on WarmStar as he lay beside it. As WarmStar's thoughts danced among the stars, a mysterious red hue enveloped the glade, and a cat emerged from the shadows. The aura surrounding him marked him as a denizen of the Dark Forest.

WarmStar watched with a mix of curiosity and caution as the Dark Forest cat stepped forward. Her fur shimmered with an otherworldly radiance, and her green eyes gleamed with an eerie light. It was RaggedTwist, a warrior from the ancient leaders' era of EventideClan.

RaggedTwist spoke with a voice that held the echoes of centuries, recounting his story—the early days of EventideClan, the famine, the fateful decision, and the tragic consequences. WarmStar listened in solemn silence, the weight of the ancient tragedy settling upon his heart.

When the tale was told, RaggedTwist's gaze fixed on WarmStar with a profound intensity. "Your clan carries the legacy of my actions, WarmStar. My story is a reminder of the importance of courage and responsibility."

WarmStar nodded, feeling a deep sense of connection to the Dark Forest cat. "I understand the lessons of your story, RaggedTwist, and I carry them with me as a warrior of EventideClan."

RaggedTwist's eyes softened, and she took a step closer to WarmStar. "In recognition of your role as a warrior and leader of EventideClan and to emphasize the significance of courage and responsibility, I offer you a gift."

WarmStar watched in awe as RaggedTwist touched her nose gently with his own. It was an act of transferring life, a sacred gift that had never been bestowed by a Dark Forest cat before.

As the touch of their noses lingered, WarmStar felt a surge of energy and a newfound sense of purpose. He had gained a life from RaggedTwist, a life that embodied vigilance, responsibility, and the enduring legacy of EventideClan.

With gratitude and reverence, WarmStar nodded to RaggedTwist. "Thank you for your gift and for sharing your story. I will carry the lessons and the legacy of EventideClan with vigilance and responsibility."RaggedTwist nodded in return, her spectral form gradually fading back into the shadows.

Raggedtwist poses a threat to Fallclan's hunting grounds, disease seems to follow this Dark Forest cat wherever she goes. She often will target apprentices as they're not fully knowledgeable yet like their mentors...if she manages to trick them into following her, she leads them to what looks like prey that succumbed to natural causes.
But more than likely, the prey is diseased.
Halfstar has instructed her warriors from experience with this cat, and in turn they instruct their apprentices to report any strange behavior that they might encounter, especially during a hunt.
It's often rumored throughout Fallclan cats that if you come upon prey that appears sickly, Raggedtwist is nearby and the area must be cleared out immediately. It's a rather strange situation for the clan to face, they've not yet figured out how to safely remove any diseased prey from their territory.
Mainly due to the thought if it's not safe to eat, it clearly can't be safe to touch, right?

Prompt:
Winters have always been harsh in the northern territory where the clans make their homes, but some have been harsher than others. Before the five clans that now make homes in that territory stood the three original clans; Willowclan, Sunclan, & Rippleclan. They lived here for many generations sometimes in peace and other times war, but they stood there through all of it. That was until one particularly harsh winter and a leaf-fall of bad luck and constant issues with the other clans. Fire had swept through Willowclan's territory setting the clan up for the harshest winter they would ever face. Raggedtwist had been one of the few healthy warriors left in Willowclan by mid-winter with a heavy burden weighing down on them. This warrior alone would bring on the extinction of Willowclan.

With her own fate and the fate of her clan sealed in the stars that's where Raggedtwist's story would end it seemed. Sentenced to a life in the Dark Forest, but her story didn't end there. Years dragged on as she shared tongues with others like her in the starless afterlife. Before she knew it Sunclan and Rippleclan soon were lost as well and for the first time any of them could remember the clans simply didn't exist. As time painfully dragged on Raggedtwist aimlessly roamed the Dark Forest and by the time a new era of clans would she had learned how to walk the real world once more.

---

The Dark was formed when Hiccupbeard of Reedclan had been granted nine lives by her ancestors living in the dark forest. Taking on the name Hiccupstar and finding herself territory among the established clans she would be the start of a new era. Raggedtwist found herself with a different part of this plan. She had no life to give Hiccupstar, but she would provide The Dark with an important component to a successful clan. In the living world Raggedtwist was not a particularly skilled or renowned warrior. With quite some poor traits she often found herself on the outside of her own clan leading to a rather lonesome life. It had been Nightstep and Owlspeck, the Willowclan medicine cats, that offered Raggedtwist companionship. With a sharp eye for identifying herbs she often brought them back when she would patrol aiding in the overall well being of her clanmates.

Shaking off the heaviness of sleep Raggedtwist rose from her nest tail twitching as cold air stung at her ears and nose. Stepping around several other dark forest cats that were sleeping she made her way out into the hazy red treeline. The Dark had been scrambling with limited cats for a while now having only found kindness from Mapleclan, but Raggedtwist knew this couldn't go on forever. Tensions among the other clans over Mapleclan's aid to The Dark were reaching a breaking point and a bad feeling made Raggedtwist anxious. Climbing over slippery moss covered rocks she found a seat at the top. Settling down with her tail wrapped around her paws she waited.

Before long what Raggedtwist had been awaiting would crash through the thick brambles and downed trees into the small clearing under the rock formation of which she sat upon. "Welcome I've been waiting for you," Raggedtwist purred looking down at the newcomer."

Wide eyes starred up at Raggedtwist and the cat's jaws parted as if they wanted to say something, but no words came out. Jumping down the rocks to stand in front of the new cat Raggedtwist touched their noses together. "The Dark needs you more now than ever. I know that perhaps you had different plans for your life. Maybe you wanted to be the greatest warrior or saw yourself up on that dead tree leading your clan as a leader, but destiny isn't always what YOU want," Raggedtwist rambled on, tail lashing from side to side.

A cold wind swept through the clearing sending chills over the both of them and then there was a long moment of silence. "If The Dark is to ever be as great as it can be this relationship of depending on Mapleclan must end. It shows weakness and we all know right now that's not something you can show. They don't trust you...The others feel threatened that The Dark shares tongues with us and find power in it," Raggedtwist's voice ice cold, "I'm going to teach you everything I know about healing. From the herbs you'll need and how to use them."

Each night after the first this cat would return to Raggedtwist in the dark forest learning what she knew. Raggedtwist would eventually grant this cat their medicine cat name and give them The Dark's first prophecy; "Stars only shine because of the darkness behind them."

Hello, sorry for the long wait, and thank you for participating!!

This entry was chosen as the Winner, and the OP has been adjusted.

The prompt was as follows:

prompt wrote:In the aftermath of a special day, it seems like a few malicious figures linger in the area.

While this cat doesn't seem all that threatening at first glance, they were exiled from a gentle afterlife for their cowardice and lack of foresight for good reason. Their actions directly lead to a disease eradicating their entire former Clan that was ill-prepared during a particularily rough winter. Hunger drove them to seek food in even the most wretched of places, and cowardice drove them back home to share in fatal misery together.

Now, tell me, what role will this cat play in your colony? How will this Dark Forest dweller influence your cats, your lore, or the trajectory of your story, if you have one? Vague answers and ideas are fine, if you don't have a full grasp on your colonies lore yet.
