Prompt: what’s the point in having pride in one’s self when nobody else feels the same way? what if they all feel like you’re just a burden, a distraction, and an annoyance? what’s the point in trying your best when the only “praise” you receive are the laughs and jeers of others? daybreak just tries to fit in with the solivaganté, trying to be the best scout he can. unfortunately, some of his fellow wanderers are rather insensitive towards his feelings. he’s trying to not lose it and stay proud of himself, he really is. he’s following his mother’s advice. but it’s really hard to feel that way with others frowning down on you and mocking everything you do.

a heavy heart sits upon a broken rock,
that has crumbled and fallen away over the years.

bits and pieces lay scattered about the grass below,
casting shadows across the dandelions that litter the ground.
wind bellows through the trees, stirring the tufts of fuzz
sending them into a flurry.

even though the stone has worn through time the sunlight still shines upon it.
gently warming the coarse surface, heart beating as a soft touch wrap around it.

the heart felt as though it was wrapped in wool,
warmed and sheltered it began to heal.

whiskers that tickle the world around them, searching and searching.
what will they find? this little dandelion tuft now sat with the heart on the rock.

tail wrapped around the beating flesh, keeping it close and tight.
joy began to show on the dandelion’s face as it began to grow.
the tuft watched the heart closely wanting to learn all of its secrets.

secrets that made the heart feel fulfilled, dignified, and honored.
the dandelion tuft listened and mimicked. the heart beat steadily on the rock.

in turn the heart watched the dandelion tuft dance about the grass.
singing and playing, soon learning and fighting.

and as the sun began to set against the heart and the rock,
the dandelion came to sit beside the heart once more.

the heavy heart now beat lightly, softly, gently. it was filled with pride.
pride for the dandelion tuft that had mended its torn flesh and kept it warm.

and with the last bit of sunlight the heart settled with a final thump,
leaving the dandelion tuft alone but not broken.

Pride A word thats often used to describe LionFur, though not for the reasons you think, the word pride is often used in the sentence/s "LionFur looks like lion, you know from a pride, that's why they were named that way" and "Hey! Lionfur aren't you supposed to be has brave and Prideful has a lion? Why aren't you??" Lionfur wasn't as brave, nor prideful as their parents want or ever wanted, they was a very cowardly cat, and they barley had any pride, even since they was a kit, he didn't have any courage, nothing about him is like a lion! sometimes, he blames their parents for naming them like this, but really, he blames the people who thinks is name mean they is like the animal they were named after.

He always wants to do better, leading him to overworking himself and to burning himself out. He will push himself to exhaustion, practicing his battle moves or hunting stances for hours at a time - sometimes past sunset.

Light filtered through the sea of trees below the mountain as Yowl slipped into the clearing. The sun kissed the horizon, beginning its daylong journey across the sky. The tom took a deep breath, inhaling the crisp and cold mountain air. It felt invigorating as he walked across the quiet camp.

Living here was nothing like his home tribe back on the savanna. Dry, hot days were now cool and windy, the foliage dense among the rocks while shrubs were fairly rare among his home territory. It took him awhile to not shiver as he walked across the camp to the Waking Stone, yet now he strides across the cold rock with ease. The early morning rays of light silhouetted Yowl against the sky, warming his golden fur.

His home flashed in his mind as his gaze searched the camp. Images of his family and friends flickered like ghosts among the dens of his new home. Yowl's heart ached, he wished his kin had been able to follow him, but the stars deemed that an impossibility. He shook the grief from his fur as he turned to look at the sun.

Its yellow body emerged from the trees, nearly blinding the tom. Turning back, his chest swelled with air as he took a deep breath. Then, with all his being, Yowl roared across the camp. The air rumbled with his roar, carrying it across the camp to wake the slumbering tribe. A few moments passed before cats began to slip from their dens and into the clearing, taking places before the Waking Stone.

Yowl gazed amongst the faces below him, taking in their each and every feature. He was proud to be apart of the tribe, despite the heartache of losing his kin. Slowly, day by day, the ache was getting softer with the love given to him by his new tribe and Yowl's future seemed to glow as brightly as the morning sun.
