Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Hound's answer is simple: his best feature is the vibrant gold and silver spilled across his coat. It's the why that gets complicated.

You see, none of those flashy metallic markings were present when Hound was foaled. For the first few years of his life he was black, white, and purple-blue all over. It was only when he struck out on his own that the first traces of silver and gold began to appear. They were indistinct at first, blurry rivulets running dowm from his spine, but as time passed and Hound wandered further appeared, distinct shapes began to emerge. A spiderweb of lines took shape, myriad points connected by precious veins, growing more vibrant with each passing day.

The horses of the island are clever, but even they aren't quite clever enough to keep track of history. That task fell to the island's caretakers: the staffers of Camp Nightwing. It was one of their number that finally solved the mystery of Hound's markings. They spotted the stallion during one of his many meanderings and jotted down a sketch of him. Later, a suspicion prodding at the back of their mind, they dug through the camp's records and struck paydirt.

Hound's markings weren't markings- or, rather, they weren't just markings. They were a map. Every gilded strand on his body correlated to one of the dozens of paths that criss-crossed the island. Not all were present, of course- only the routes Hound favored were etched into his hide. Stranger still, his markings changed with the seasons and his wandering whims. Old routes faded as he lost interest in them, replaced by newer, more interesting paths that grew in brilliant gold and silver.

Some trick of the island's magic had turned Hound into a living map of the island he loved. No fool Hound, he took that gift in both hands (hooves?) and ran with it.

Today Hound serves as the 'guardian of the crossroads', forever delving into the dark places of the island in search of lost visitors. After all, he can't get lost, not when he's got a map of the whole darn island so readily at hand!

His mane is obviously the equivalent of his hair, and humans clearly think that colourful hair makes them cool, so when his hair is let down, and the gold and silver sparkle out in them, standing out dramatically against the rest of the black hair there, effectively giving him highlights - he's pretty sure he's the epitome of cool.

He gets to be a bit rough to deal with if any of the stablehands make the mistake of letting his mane fully down, so that no one really wants to have to deal with him on these days, and everyone volunteers for any job that gets them away from Gucci until it's done - hence why his mane is tightly and neatly styled today, as in his picture!

Prompt: Aurora's favourite aspect of her physical appearance is her flames. They're tri-coloured, and that's quite rare for a horse from Dark Woods Den. The way she obtained them is really quite simple. Her flames used to be just blue, but she and her two friends had the idea of putting their fires together to see what would happen. Nothing explosive happened, but the colours of their three fires merged together into a tri-coloured flame! They each took a portion of it for themselves, and now parade around the island with their unique fires that signal their friendship and bond.

What other feature could he possibly pick than his stunning Chaetodon Silver Bullet combo? Who could possibly need camouflage when you look as good as he does? Certainly not him that's for sure. Liu may be pretty with his stunning combo and the more plain markings but that's never stopped him from surprising others with his fighting skills. It was drummed into him at a fairly young age that his markings would never let him hide and so he had to learn to protect himself. Though his other features are lovely nothing can compare in his eyes to the outstanding vibrant beauty this is the Chaetodon Silver Bullet adorning his dark coat.

Truly the strands of silver and gold have no possible comparison and many have agreed that they truly are Liu's best possible feature. He's always so very pleased when he hears compliments about that stunning marking combo. Shimmering and shining when the light hits them, they're truly a sight to behold.
