Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Autumn is prime stargazing time, and this trotter reflects that! They're themed around astronomy, stars, and chilly evenings spent bent over a telescope.

Prompt: Alnitak arrived on this world about one cosmic cycle ago when the planet was still new and becoming the Earth we know today. Alnitak marveled in watching as the beings of this planet grew and evolved, starting from single cell organisms and creating full beasts and biomes to sustain them.
He didn't always have this form, he has taken many over the many hundreds of thousands of years that have passed, but he has always chosen a form in which he could interact, observe and understand the native beings. Alnitak had once been a Tardigrade, another time he had chosen the form of a Pachycephalosaurs, his most recent to memory before choosing this form was that of an American Cave Lion.
Alnitak has had this form for the last 25 years, but being on this Island, his unaged appearance has never been a question to those around him nor his ability to seemly summon the Orion's Belt constellation upon one thought. Now one may wonder how does a Trotter have the ability to summon a whole system of stars to appear as bright as the first day he saw them from this planet 225 million years ago (give or take a couple million years... his memory isn't what it once was) well the most simple answer is Alnitak comes from those very stars. The long answer however is a bit more, hmm how to put it, out of this world.
Alnitak was born of the star system for which he is named though what he calls it is in a language no being of this planet would be able to hear and survive. He was born with the stars that created the system but was never called to the gravitational pulls like his siblings; he heard a song, sang from the furthest depths of space a song that seemed to pull him across it's vast empty expanse. Alnitak tried to join in the dance of his siblings as the moved slowly yet with this unyielding purpose around each other, never touching and always just far enough from one another to feel lonely, but the song he heard was vibrant and full of warmth and love and most importantly life.
Alnitak followed the song across the universe stopping ever to often to watch as other star systems and new solar systems were created. The song however never stopped, it never stopped guiding him and it never stopped being sung but the strength of it began to increase, giving him hope that soon he would reach it's source. Alnitak didn't know how long it took for him to find the source but time was not something seemed to need to worry about, for he was merely an orb of light moving among others, the only difference between him and the others was they had found their song, their home and he was still searching.
He came upon a solar system with a stop, noticing that as he arrived the song seemed to hit it's cadenza and his core seemed to surge with new found warmth and belonging. He moved slowly attempting to feel the pull of the already present star, but the pull did not come. Alnitak could not understand, he was here where had been meant to be this whole time but he could not join the dance of the planets, their star, whom the people of Earth affectionately named the Sun, would not allow him to join. Slowly he moved closed to the center, believing that maybe he was meant to combine with the existing star, when suddenly he felt the tug. It was a light tug at first as if something was gripping his tail to stop him from advancing but then it became more insistent it became more of a very unceremonious drag.
And that dear reader is how Alnitak a being of stars far away became a part of the beings of Earth.

Born of stardust and meteors, Máni was always an odd one. He never quite fit in and never stayed in the same place for long. He travelled billions of light years, galloping across starlight to wherever his heart desires. He has been to many planets and have seen many life forms. However, his favourite had always been Earth. Fragile creatures that hold so much potential thrive on such a measly little planet. He fell in love with the people and their interaction with the world around them.

He decided to spend some time as one of the creatures on earth. Just a simple wild horse. One fine night, he stood under the night sky. The moon shone but the sky looked so dull. Many planets have gorgeous night views that outshine that of earth. Máni decided to add some spice into the night sky. He slowly started to gather stars from other parts of the system, moving them just slightly closer so it could be visible on earth. He made many trips, moving around many different stars. By the time he was done, he could tell that the creatures of earth had also noticed the change and were in awe.

He may have hung the stars for them.
But they stole his heart.

She would always gaze up at them in wonder, wishing that someday, one would come down close enough for her to grab it. As she got a little older, she would ask her mother time and again if the stories she told were true. When she became an adult, she started doubting the stories, but held on to a small bit of hope. One night she headed back out to the northern edge of the island like she did every night and realized she was being followed by a few of the foals, she understood as she glanced back at them, that whether the stories were true or not, wasn't what was important, the important thing was the hope that the stories brought to the little ones behind her. She beckoned them after her and when they reached their destination she took her mother's place, sharing the stories of the stars.
