Prompt:Springpaw cried out in surprise and pain as the trap snapped shut against their tail. They didn’t dare look at it as tears welled up in their eyes, from the anxiety of the situation just as much as the pain. He whimpered softly before taking a deep breath and steeling himself. Slowly, Springpaw turned to look at their tail and assess the damage. It was quite bad. As scared as he was, Springpaw tried to remind himself that it wasn’t as bad as it could be, it only got his tail and not the foot that he triggered the trap with, after all. They blinked the tears from their eyes and set to work, prying the trap off of their now mangled tail. They tried not to think about the fact that they were now alone, with no one to worry over their injury or help them heal from it. That wasn’t worth worrying about now, not after everything that had happened with their old clan. They’d just have to deal with this on their own, that’s how it had to be. They concentrated hard to remember all the things their previous mentor taught them about medicine and injuries, all of the herbs that could be used and where to find them. After a few more sniffles and a lot of determination, Springpaw picked himself up off of the ground and went in search of the herbs he needed.

Springleaf shook their head to push the memory aside. That was in the past, there’s no use worrying about it, now. Still, they would always do their best to make sure no one would feel like that again; alone and hurt and hopeless. At least not as long as they could help it, not in their territory or anywhere near it. It was why they still became a medicine cat, why they would always be a medicine cat. It was their main goal in life; to help those who have no one else to turn to, no matter what.
