for this readoption, i'd like to read some poems, since that's how i got this bb! there's no min or max word count.
if you'd rather do
anything but write a poem, fear not! i'll accept extended prose as well. again, no min or max word count. however, i'll be looking at quality over quantity.
poem or prose, i want to read about a
ghost. interpret this however you'd like.
no extras please, but prettying up is a-ok. this will close in exactly one week, on
april 22nd @ 8 pm EST.
good luck!

poem or prose:
a sonnet in iambic heptameter.
A six of crows marks certain death, one wish you well away.
Now count your hours and days gone by, the tick of clocks forlorn
And lie awake 'til morn's last breath as mind fears death decay.
The caws we hear, of six in town, demands that we may mourn.
A six of crows, upon the tower at eve she did observe
As chill ran down her jaded spine, frozen upon their gaze.
Stoic demeanor shed at last, the birds had struck a nerve.
Murder takes flight and off they went, dis'pearing in the haze.
'Murder,' she says, 'murder I fear, their lore to me was thrust
And if I listen to their words, my life will end before
I may fulfill my life's desires -- my will reduced to dust!'
So off she went to her homestead, rejecting death she swore.
Upon return to her lover, him as her greatest friend,
She knew at once it was his face that sees her life to end.
In heart and soul he loves her much, his passion like a thorn.
Her heart beats fast with fear, for doubt, his love is that untrue.
'Murder,' she says, 'murder I saw, they come to me to warn
Of death they see to burden me, a death will carry through.'
His heart, it drops, to see his love all frenzied in dismay.
Her pain is his, their hearts as one, he rushes to embrace.
But fearing death, it's coming now! Her fist moves out, away
And grasps the knife lay on the counter, stab it in his face.
The man, he falls, his body limp upon the kitchen tile.
Rejoice she does at this sad sight, her own death left delayed,
But at expense of her late love, killed without a trial.
'I'm free', she thinks and leaves the house, while wiping clean the blade.
Murder did come, but at her hands, the omen was revealed.
Her life is safe to carry on -- his soul's fate now is sealed.
His soul wand'ring with lack of life, a ghost was born today.
Although his life has come to end, the world that he did know
Was full of love and care for his lover who did betray.
And dead, he is. To he, who cares? His soul's, with joy, aglow.
His ghost knows not being betrayed, he knows only his love.
For her, however, she did die in soul and in her might --
She knows no longer love and care, she fears her bloodied gloves.
The guilt, it cuts just as she did, and now she cries at night.
A six of crows marks certain death, one wish you well away.
Whose end they bring they do not name, their caws only speak death.
Be cautious of this omen come, it will lead you astray.
So heed their warning and their call, until your final breath.
The crows may mark our mortal end, but not our soul's rebirth.
As ghosts we'll roam the earth at will, beyond the bounds of earth.

poem or prose:
The ghost whispered
Whispered behind my back
From the early hours of dusk
To the hollow halls of midnight
They knew everything
That haunting wanderer of dark
The ghost whispered
They knew of my lies
Knew of my secrets
They talked in walked in my dreams
Danced in my shadows
That mischievous night prancer
The ghost whispered
Like a gossiping aunt
Hes here again
Shes here again
When will he finally get married
The headache inducing creature
The ghost whispered
That I must hide my treasure
It hung upon my ear
Told me to hide my glory
But I ignored
That wise talkative man
The ghost whispered
Your end is here tonight
It spoke of my death
The loss of my glory
Laughed about my enemy
The merciless plundering of fright
The ghost whispered
And this time
I could whisper back

poem or prose:I saw your footsteps in the snow
They settled just outside my window
I could see your breath against the glass
Just like every winter come to pass
I felt your chill against my bones
No sign of life within these stones
Ebb and flow
Just come and go
You were here not long ago
But quickly you went your way- tip toe
So quiet I couldn't hear you sigh
So quiet I couldn't hear you cry
Your echo haunts me every December
It's the only time I can remember
Your pale skin and sunken eyes
The song you sang and it's reprise
Your siren song it captured me
But now it seems I no longer see
You disappear into thin air
Leave no trace and leave no care
You were here and now you're gone
I no longer hear your mournful song
Did you move on to a new host?
I guess that's to expect from a ghost

Between branches hung down like curtains
Milky light dances off a rippling mirror to the sky
Settled in a lullaby of chirps unseen
And cradled in soft green carpet
You can find me there
On the edge of your eyes
Dancing in brief afterthought and rustle in trees
All calls are for naught and ring into inky black
Ring out into nothingness, I am the same
And fall into the void from whence I came
Winter's moon gives way to blanketing warmth
Living residents waking after chill
Ever-chattering presence grows
Walk amongst them without a turn of the head
Trapped in the tranquility of nature
Here there are no lights to drown the heavens out
Nothing is spared from the moon's watchful eye
Figures which stalk along the ground illuminated
All bodies made of starlight
Their beauty carries the curse of Icarus
Between branches hung like curtains
Dancing in brief afterthought and rustle in trees
Ever-chattering presence grows
All bodies made of starlight
See my ever growing family, alive again with every breath of this specter's marsh.

gender: female, she/her
poem or prose:
a fallen kingdom in despair
with only its queen remaining, unaware
dancing with ghosts of those she used to know
such a very long time, so long ago
and the ghosts, they all danced
as she remained stuck and entranced
they spun her around in the old hallowed halls,
through cold winters, summers, springs, and falls
her sacred oath had been broken,
her reality unrealized, unspoken
she never questioned why the days repeated,
for too far in her mind she had retreated
only dancing, dancing remained
not the crumbled walls, all faded and stained
she didn’t see the sun rising, or the moon gracing the sky
she only noticed what was there before, like the smell of freshly baked pie
once beautiful tapestries, now reduced to dust
the crown upon her head covered in rust
swords scattered, plates shattered, wood burned
every table and chair once perfectly arranged, now overturned
her enemies had struck during a fabulous ball,
but before she could do anything she felt herself fall
her world went black, and then it was fine
they were all there dancing together in time
deep in her mind, somewhere she knew
that her kingdom was gone, it was true
her scared oath, though broken left her bound
for thousands of years, twirling around
though the stones were all ruins, she still couldn’t admit, couldn’t see
that her reality wasn’t what she saw it to be
it would be to painful to realize,
to look with truly seeing eyes
to understand that she was a ghost too,
it would be too much, it just couldn’t be true
so the fallen kingdom in despair
could only wait, and hope, its queen would someday be aware
