Prompt: Squirrelmist trotted across the stone clearing, catching Diamondsmoke by surprise while he was sorting through his findings from the gatherers earlier patrol that morning. They looked up, sensing their clanmates' presence and spoke, "What? I'm a little busy right now, turtle." Squirrelmist smiled at the nickname she had earned when they were training together as year-olds. Diamondsmoke's unseeing eyes bored into hers, something she had quickly forgotten about him was his blindness. The tom could fight, hunt, and gather resources like any other cat, even better than some.
"I couldn't sleep the other night." They seemed unamused but curious to where she was going with the question. "I get the feeling you want me to ask you why." Squirrelmist took that as an answer and she continued, "Well, earlier when I was watching over the youth, Canary asked me, 'What would you wish for if you had three wishes?' And I couldn't think of a single answer." She purred playfully, "Does the wise
seer of truth have some
insight for me?" The grumpy tom seemed to smile a little before shifting back to his previous expression of irritation although it was much too late for his friend to not notice his amusement.
"Wishes are for kittens and the question shouldn't be keeping you up at night." Squirrelmist nudged him gently, "C'mon... what
would you wish for?" She repeated her question, actually interested in his answer now. Diamondsmoke sighed and shifted against the rough stone under-paw. "Fine. My first wish would be to get you to stop annoying me while I do my job, my second wish would to always have a full belly, and my third wish would be..." Silence stretched as he seemed embarressed to finish, it felt like an eternity until he finally answered, "Well, I'd like to have a companion to... er... assist me in my studies." Squirrelmist purred and grinned, "Like me?" The ginger she-cat leaned on him dramatically.
"No, bee-brain. An animal companion that
isn't you, Squirrelmist."
