Drying grass crackles beneath the apprentice's paws as they make their way towards a small bird. Haunches up, the cat sniffs the air as they make their way forwards.
"Stop!" A voice cuts into their thoughts and they startle backwards. A bright tomcat slots himself between the bird and the apprentice, and the young cat's eyes widen as they notice the large bird perched on the tomcats shoulder.
Another, brighter bird flutters down and lands atop his head, and the apprentice stares, eyes wide.
"Can't be out here taking the little ones." The tomcat states carefully, and the apprentice swallows anxiously and nods once.
"I-I'm sorry."
The tomcat grins, "I know you didn't mean any harm."
"Can never be too careful though, can we?" Another voice startles the apprentice, and they whip around to find a pale cat with a skull over their face standing beside them.
"I'm sorry. Please don't hurt me. I-I'll just be going now." The apprentice tries to scamper away, but the newest cat places a paw gently against their side, preventing them from leaving.
"It's okay youngin', we ain't gonna do you no harm." This blind tomcat's voice is gravely, but kind. The bones laced around his neck are intricately held together by twine. The apprentice glances back at the other cat.
"Look, we know you're after something. You wouldn't be this far from home if you weren't. A taste of fresh air. An adventure. We're here to make that happen."
