ash’s opinions on the night have changed a lot in his short life. for a long, long time- in his eyes, at least!- he dreaded the sun’s setting. he struggled with falling and staying asleep. nothing the guardians would do could ever get the poor kit to drift off. counting stars, stories, lullabies- all of it was unhelpful. ash hated being so tired, and trying so hard to get to sleep but being unable to.

sleeping’sky joined the alliance not long later, and the tom seemed to much prefer the night to the day. he could often be found taking naps throughout the day in between his duties, and ash saw him staying up a lot at night. ash wondered what he was doing, and soon began to come up to the hunter when he spotted him.

sleeping’sky was awkward with kits, but when ash had come up to him with his eyes clouding with tears one night, he had done everything he could to keep the kit company while he couldn’t sleep. it turned into something of a ritual for them. the hunter told stories much different to the ones the guardians tended to tell. he would talk about his day and let ash talk about his, and sometimes, if ash begged enough, he would try to sing for him.

ash began to see the night time as something he looked forwards to. the kit loved spending time with sleeping’sky, and sleeping’sky began thinking of ash as his own kit. now, ash still has trouble sleeping, but the time spent with his dad helps to calm him down to rest at least a little more.
