“Hey… do you see that?”
Soft-spoken and lilting with a certain charm, her gaze flickered, turning to Tallow. The tip of his tail flicked, sailing outwards, past the smooth creamy sands and towards the azure and ceruleans of the rippling seas. Spotlit by the noon, something bobbed in the waters. Wooden and crusted with kelp, it floated, its sodden sides stamped with scarlet, inked symbols. A crate.
A fraying rope snaked out from around it, knotted tightly around the crate. If she could snatch that rope, perhaps…
“Let’s get it!” She waded into the shallows, a plume of seafoam bubbling beneath her paws. “Help me out?”
A soft chuckle flourished from behind. “Come on, Bluff. Let’s reel it in ━ help our new friends out.”
And she was joined by their two new ━ well, possible ━ members. The taste of salt and sand lingered on her jaws, brine-sprayed breeze in her curls. Her limbs danced in the depths of the ocean, weaving past driftwood and kelp, sliding past shimmering scales and broken coral. With a grunt, she seized the end of the rope in her jaws, grasping tightly.
Further down the rope, Bluff and Tallow had done the same, movements a mirror to hers. And fortunately, no sign of a banded serpentine creature, slithering in the seas. Perhaps, it’d left indeed. (predator has left territory!)
“Ready?” With a steadying breath, she gave the rope a little tug. “On my count, let’s pull. One, two…”
And perhaps, it was a gift from the stars.
A forgotten treasure from those sailing ships, travelling from harbour to harbour, towing in troves and connecting routes otherwise lost from the world. and not only that, but perhaps it was a gift in and out of itself. A way to test the waters for the newcomers ━ to trial the bonds that… could be.
“Did you manage to get it open, yet?” A smile laced her features as she sprawled out in the sands, nodding towards the cluster of shadows crowding around the crate. Even now, she could trace the shadows to each of them. Honeythorn, Owllight, Bluff, Tallow and… wait.
A hiss splintered the peace as Tallow fell back, cheeks marred with ribbons of crimson. (-10% health for tallow ━ he may continue patrolling without herbs or rest!)
She sprang to her paws, but that shadow, so foreign and unfamiliar, laced with the stench of rotting kelp and fish fled. Haggard and weary, skipping over tidepools and shells, something snug in their jaws. (rogue has left territory!)
“Tallow?” Her shoulders tensed. “Your cheek…”
“Mhm, just fine.” His smile met hers, paw touching his cheek, steady charm unfaltering. “Nothing to worry about.”
Bluff frowned, shaking their head. “I think that rogue came from the crate. They got off with a few things… but most of it’s still inside. (+2FP crab, +2FP crab, +2FP crab, +1 goldenrod, +1 willow bark, +1 willow bark, +1 alder bark)
