Laughter spilled, dark mirth, falling from their jaws.
And perhaps… her world just became a little darker, the stars a little dimmer, the shadows a little closer. Still, she held her head high, shoulders steady and paws pressed against the earth. They were equals. Two monarchs breaching neutral grounds, balancing on the cusp of something between the space of light and dark.
“Peace.” From the beastmaster, the words seemed tainted. Poisonous. Their tongue slithered from their jaws, pausing between their fangs. “Such a fickle thing to cling to, don’t you think? When so easily, I can summon chaos to subdue, destroy and shatter your little peace-loving companions.”
Their paw thumped the ground, sending a beast shooting from the shadows, teeth gnashing.
She didn’t flinch. “I─”
“Tell me, queen. Would you deny someone peace… if they find it from vengeance?” Crimson eyes glinted, like a bloodied shard of glass. “My army seeks peace of a different kind. Release ─ from those who wronged them in their past. I find the best way to do that is to let them loose. It helps with the… forgetting.”
There was something else in those scarlet eyes. A ghost, a flicker, of something beyond the impervious persona of steel they embodied. Something haunted beneath the shadows and serpents they surrounded himself with. Something… anguished.
But it vanished.
Eyes hardening, they pivoted, the movement sharp and crisp, the angle of their jaw accentuated by a flickering light. A raven. For a breath’s pause, the avian blocked the dim light with outstretched wing, the ends bleeding and wispy, teetering on the planes of reality and fantasy. The avian swooped down, gnarled talons gripping the beastmaster’s shoulder, beak inclined to their ear.
Their smirk deepened. “It seems you have a problem at your borders… worth checking out if you ask me.” (rogues detected just outside lissidom’s borders!)
Lissi stepped forward. “How do we know this isn’t a trick?”
“You don’t. Perhaps you should consider my question and perhaps I’ll consider yours, little princess. For now, I have other matters to attend.” A lazy smile snaked along their jaws as the shadows billowed around them, surging in strength. Consuming them. “Perhaps we’ll have better answers for each other… when we meet again.”
And the beastmaster was gone.
Them… and their beasts. (quest completed!)
“Here.”
A lyrical melody flowed, hesitant, yet gentle. Furzetuft. Gold and copper curls fluttering, she dropped a little bundle folded with leaves in-front of her. “This is for you. I have a feeling you’ll need it.” (+4FP rabbit, +4FP rabbit, +4FP rabbit, +1 burnet, +1 celandine, +1 chervil, +1 chickweed)
Her smile was soft, yet faint. “I can’t thank you enough. I know you came all this way…”
“I fear I must leave soon.” The stranger’s paw settled on her shoulder, the gentle strength in her grip steadying her. “It seems the beastmaster has a new target and I must warn the other clans. But take this… and may the stars shine bright for you. You and your village.”
A kaleidoscope of baby blues and rosy pinks settled in her paw, captured in a tiny, shimmering prism. (+1 starburst)
Then, it was just her.
Her, the patrol and a dawning sky.
With something else to deal with.

✦ Rogues are present just outside Lissidom's borders (not trespassing)!
Does the patrol confront them or leave the rogues alone? ✦
