Choice of Ingredient(s) Charm - Chopple BerryPrompt(s):
This time, Basil was confident they'd be able to convince this pokemon to give over the ingredient - last time had been just a little embarrassing. Not only were they totally familiar with Bunearies, but they'd also left Wisp behind at Auntie's. They were... probably a bit too scary for this little mission.
Trekking up the mountains was its own entire problem, though, and they weren't having the most fun doing it all alone. Plus that chill mountain breeze... if they didn't find that Buneary soon, they were just going to have to take a break to bask in the sun for a while. They were getting pretty cold and hungry up here.
But, just as they were about to call it quits for an hour, they saw quick movement up ahead. They perked up immediately - that could be her! Or something that wanted to eat them, but at least a fight or a chase would warm them up a little.
Cautiously, since rampaging over probably wouldn't help either way, they crept over to the rock the flash had disappeared behind. Hopefully, if this was the Buneary, she didn't think they were here to eat
her."Hey there." They called out gently, trying to peer behind the rock without getting too close. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I'm just looking for some Chopple Berry? If you have some?"
They kept still for a few moments, hoping the Buneary would come out and it was actually her and she'd happily hand over the berries. But nobody came, and Basil was beginning to wonder if there was actually anyone behind that rock at all. At least Wisp wasn't here to see them talking to a rock.
Basil kept waiting and waiting by the rock - they didn't want to SCARE her - but sitting completely still on the rough surface of the mountain was not doing any favours for their cold fur. They debated just walking over to the rock and confronting whoever was there, but...
"...If you've got those berries, I'll just be nearby. I need some sun before my paws freeze off." They called over, hesitating for a moment to see if anyone would come out.
When nobody did, they trotted off to find a sunnier, smoother rock to lay on for a while. Food, warmth, maybe a nap... and
then hopefully get that berry.
When they awoke, they nearly fell clear off the rock and tumbled down the entire mountain - the Buneary was standing right there, watching them snooze away.
"Um." They blinked, trying to wake up faster. "Hello there."
The Buneary's nose twitched, and she offered a shy smile. "Hello! I'm sorry for ignoring you earlier... I just get a little nervous around strangers."
"Oh, yeah, no worries." Basil waved a paw, internally cheering. She HAD been behind that rock, then.
"You were looking for some Chopple Berry?" The Buneary tipped her head, ruffling a paw through her thick curly fur. "I have plenty, if you still need some."
Basil's ears perked. "Oh, yes! That would be great, if you wouldn't mind."
"Of course not!" She smiled, handing over a small pawful of berries - probably about two or three, but Basil assumed that would be enough. They didn't need the pie to be THAT hot.
They fumbled the berries into their own, less dexterous paws and into the small bag Auntie had provided them. Just having them there in the bag was already warming them up even better than their sunbathing had.
"Well, thank you very much." They smiled at the Buneary, getting to their paws. "Is there anything I could do in return, or...?"
The Buneary rapidly tapped her foot for a moment, thinking it over. But she shook her head, smiling.
"Oh, no, I give these away all the time!" She twitched an ear, her smile becoming a tad more nervous. "But thank you for not rushing after me or anything. I know it was probably a little frustrating to wait, but... I appreciate it."
Thank Arceus Wisp wasn't here. "Of course! I wouldn't want you getting uncomfortable over a few little berries."
Basil hopped off the rock, shooting her a smile. "But, ah, if we're done here... this mountain is
freezing."
The Buneary laughed a little, nose twitching with amusement rather than nerves this time. "Oh, yes, it's not for everyone. Have a safe walk home!"
Basil thanked her and they exchanged their goodbyes, the Buneary hopping off to continue with the rest of her day while Basil started heading back down the mountain. It had actually been easier than they'd expected, getting the berries - it had probably taken them longer to get here than to convince her to give them some, even with their little nap.
And the trek back would be a little long, too, but... well, at least they could rub it in Wisp's muzzle that they totally HADN'T needed to give that little bunny a huge blade in exchange for those berries, like they'd tried to tell them a hundred times. Not
all Bunearies were like that. And show them the berries, too - but mostly the they were totally right the whole time thing.
