What do we do from here?:Crowcall raised both furred brows as his ears twitched back and his tail lashed out in disbelief. "What do you mean what do we do now? We follow the trail! We have eyes, noses, ears! They cannot get that far away from us!" There's a growl to his normally cheerful voice, as he starts towards where the muddy pawprints were found.

"We start here, and we FIND those responsible for this mess! Got it? Now come on, time is wasting with every minute as don't go after them! I for one have a few claws that want to have a word with them..." And so he started off, unsure who would follow. But he had to know... and he needed to kick their tails for causing so much trouble!

“Here’s an idea! Guards! Some night shifts maybe! Yknow so cats can watch out at night and see whats up! Like we rotate so no one stays up all night! And then once we see something we attack! We go and tackle it to the ground and drag it back and scare it ahaha!”

What do we do from here?: duskshadow was still a little shook from the fire but she still decided to go and ask around from other campers if they had seen anything, after a while of asking around she still hadnt gotten anymore clues..she sighed as she looked around the place thats when she remembered the mentions of strange pawprints in the mud, she decided to go investigate those pawprints,  when she saw the pawprints she was suprised she hadnt seen those pawprints anywhere before even though she had seen many different pawprints on her travels, she decided to try and look around for more of those strange pawprints in hopes of finding some more clues at the same time

"Tiger, any ideas what the culprit may be?" Fennel asked. "Because we have no idea what may have made these strange pawprints.."

"I don't know if my guesses are correct," Tiger sighed. "But, to me it looks like dog-paws. I'm not an expert, though."
"Dog-paws? I don't know, Tiger," Fennel said sadly. "Dog-paws look like our paw prints, just bigger."

"Awh." Tiger breathed. "Maybe some reptile then?"

"Maybe."

What do we do from here?:
He doesn't have any real suggestions for what to do, at first. Most other cats already have the right ideas, asking more questions and trying to track down the creature by the tracks it's left. He's no scout, though; he doesn't have the same sharpness of observation and perception that, say, Cinnamonbreeze had, so while he can definitely follow the tracks now, he's not sure he'd be able to figure out where they might go once they ended.

Hm. What would Cinnamonbreeze suggest?

"Um. If an obvious pawprint trail ends, there might still be the smells," he points out, "and also, there might be... things line disturbed plant life, something brushed aside or crushed under paw. Not that this will always mean something, in a forest populated by other animals, but... Also, if there's any plants along the pawprint trail, maybe look at them to see if there's any caught fur? It might help give us a better idea of what we're looking for."

A pause. "...And, be careful. We don't know what kind of creature caused this... and if this whole thing was an accident, or if it was caused maliciously and on purpose. And until we do know, I think it would be safer to act like whatever it was is dangerous, and does not like us."

What do we do from here?: Pawprints in the mud...? Hal blinked at them, wondering if it was any like what he had seen before. Other cats were already setting off following the pawprint trail, but as he glanced at the pattern of the direction those pawprints were going... his gaze settled upon a particular area in the distance. Perhaps that was it? He'd go check that area first, and see if his prediction was right.

What do we do from here?:

After Littlepaw’s heart had finally settled she decided to do a bit of investigating. Shemade her way towards another apprentice, “Hey, do you know if anyone else saw anything else last night, that might tell us about the culprit?” 

“Not really… I mean that apprentice over there said he saw some glowing eyes, watching him from the bushes, but that was probably just the fear talking…”

“Hmm…”

A warrior overheard Littlepaw’s inquiries, and also offered “I saw a strange spiky tail that I’d never seen before when I was out yesterday. But when I looked behind the rock it was gone… If that was the culprit though…”

Strange paw prints, spiky tails, and glowing eyes Littlepaw shivered, this was getting a little too scary for her… 

“Yeah but how do you know that’s what was at fault?? That could have been any lizard?” the other apprentice pointed out.

Littlepaw sighed. “It seems there was lots of strange animals here, and I’ve got no idea which one it was. Maybe the best thing to do would be to try and protect eachother because how could we prove who or what did it? Does anyone even live close enough to here that they might know what the animals around here were known for??” her voice trailed off, thinking about the snippets of info they had...

What do we do from here?:
Kiprey wasn't much of a tracker, but he wanted to help. Luckily for him, his friends wanted to help too, so they set off in a little group to go investigate. They started with the mud, following the strange tracks as best they could. They really were quite odd - Kiprey couldn't remember seeing anything like them before, and he had been all around the lake! Though... admittedly, the tracks were a little messed up, both from the apparent excitement of whatever left them and less-than-careful investigators before them.

Regardless, Kiprey and his buddies followed the tracks until they couldn't anymore. Strangely, it seemed they ended as soon as they entered the forest. Weird.

With that lead exhausted, they decided to go check out where Hana had heard something. Unfortunately, any scents that may have been left were either disturbed by previous investigators or ruined by smoke, and the dense underbrush of the forest meant tracks were hard to find. Eventually, the gaggle of apprentices called it quits and returned to Fennel, their tails dragging. Maybe someone else could find out whatever the creatures were.

What do we do from here?:

the past event left quite a stir within the camp. from the fire to the mysterious scent, rumors were floating about, and nightfall wasn’t sure exactly what to believe. some were saying that there was a big bear or an old dark forest spirit haunting the camp. but, the counselors told the campers what they knew: the paw prints in the mud and the culprit in the forest. nightfall was sure that the councilors would do what they could to protect the campers and solve the mystery, but nightfall and some of the other campers decided to lend a paw.

a patrol of four campers, including nightfall, set off from camp to find out more. the forest still seemed to be untouched as the four walked through it. nightfall fell to the back of the patrol and looked about the forest. the fire didn’t get to the path where the patrol was traveling through, but the smell of burnt wood and ash still wavered through the air. the leader of the patrol signaled for the group to stop. nightfall trotted to the front of the group to see that they’ve just found the paw prints. “who or what could have made these?” nightfall asked.

“one way to find out,” the leader said as they went towards the paw prints. they stood off to the side as the rest of the patrol watched. they put a paw next to one of the prints and then repeated it a few times. nightfall drifted off somewhat as the leader continued. he looked back to the leader who obviously trapped in their own thoughts, ignoring the rest of the patrol.

“so, what are you doing? what’s the thought process here?” nightfall interjected.

that snapped the leader back into focus and they turned to the group. “i’m trying to match my paws to these paw prints. it could easily rule out these prints coming from a cat if it’s done correctly.”

“but, don’t we all come in different sizes, have different paw sizes, walk differently, or just don’t have the same number of toes or legs?” an apprentice asked.

“that’s correct, so shouldn’t we all try then?” nightfall added. “my clan has an entire group that walks in a different way to avoid leaving tracks in their marshes, and it’s seen in my clanmates who live with the main group.”

“why do they do that?” the apprentice asked.

“it’s a long story.”

“getting back to the paw prints, we’ll all try then,” the leader sighed. each patrol member lined themself up with the paw prints and did as the leader did. each one came back with various results, ending with one conclusion. that what ever it was had either various paw sizes and a weird gait or it was a group, due to how the original paw prints didn’t line up at all with each other or how some steps were just bigger than others. “that led us no where,” the fourth patrol member, a warrior, said.

“why’s that?” the apprentice asked.

“did you not pay attention at all?” the warrior scolded the apprentice. nightfall felt slightly concerned and sympathetic for the apprentice as he watched the warrior rambled on. finishing the scolding, the warrior turned to the patrol leader. “shouldn’t we check out where hana stopped the culprit?”

“no, hana only heard them and i doubt any scent was left behind in this mess,” they waved their tail about, signaling the scent of smoke and ash in the air. “it’s getting late, let’s go back to the camp.” the leader signaled for the rest of the patrol to follow. yet again, nightfall fell behind once again, this time lost in thought. there had to be something there or maybe hana remembers more. but, for now, it’s safe to let others try to figure out the paw prints and reach a better conclusion than us.

the camp came into view as the patrol neared the edge of the forest. the patrol had more questions than answers, and someone should probably ask hana more questions, or just send patrols out into the forest to look about. that’s what should be the next move, according to nightfall, but for now, he’s content with listening to what the counselors have to say about this and any further evidence that they find.

What do we do from here?:

gecko narrowed their eyes as they looked around at the other cats. "we have enough cats here, we could send out tracking parties and have the others stay here as guards. we shouldn't all stay in the same place, spread out in smaller groups and make it harder for whatever this is to trap us all at the same time." they suggested. surely they'd all be able to overpower whatever this creature was if they joined together, right?
