“what… what is all this?”

snow. her soft blue curls wavered as she neared, her pawsteps light against the soft grasses. she leaped over the over-sized netted sack he dragged, brows creased.

with a little wink, his voice dropped, low and conspiratorial. “i think we’re up against a bear.”

“a bear? are you sure?”

“positive. and all this,” he waved a tail at the sack, “is what we need in case it attacks.”

grinning, he brandished two metal pans and clashed it together. a loud bash resounded, rattling from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. “noise to scare it off.”

“and a mirror…” he angled the shard of glass to the light, creating a sharp glint. “a flicker like that could look like a fire to that bear.”

“perhaps-”

“i also have a net! and more pans! pots, glowsticks, herbs to mask our scents… y’know if we’re going to do a stakeout.” one by one, he presented each item with a flourish, before tossing them aside. “oh! and bait, of course! in case we need to distract it.”

she chuckled, her eyes bright. “well, it looks like you’re all set.”

“wait!” his eyes widened, shooting to his little makeshift tent. “can’t forget the snacks! i made some s’mores for the trip… i bet this investigation may take a bit.”

starting back towards the tent, he turned around. “i'll be right back!"

After one failed fishing attempt, Grape Jelly was bored. There'd been so much fishing lately anyways; surely Hana had enough to cook every meal from now to the end of summer! Not that Hana's cooking was exactly something they looked forward to...

Jelly wanted to do something new, something exciting! Maybe dive for buried treasure? Or explore the reeds looking for neat birds and bugs? Or.. oh, were those other campers going somewhere? Jelly watched as several campers broke off from the fishing group and headed towards a more distant part of the lake. They'd heard a rumor earlier about something taking fish from the lake. Maybe these cats were going to investigate? Well, whether they were or not, following them would certainly be more exciting than this. Grape Jelly bounded away to investigate with the others, Cheeto following behind them.

Would it be okay for a deputy to cry at the mere thought of approaching the river again? Probably not, but Ella was certainly at her limit when it came to stinky gross river water and the animals therein. "By StarClan, I will make this worth it." She grumbled, angrily cleaning her fur from when she had gotten slightly too close to a frog. "If I don't catch the biggest fish I can find, this will never be worth it." Shaking her tail, she once again crouched in a spot where he assumed would be a catch worthy of the way she smelled.

Something was taking the fish? Well, at least something thought this pray was good, Ella purred to herself. Still, this was something she intended on taking seriously. "Small brown creatures? That could be anything from a kit to a small badger." She tilted her head in thought. It wouldn't hurt to take a closer look, she supposed. "Here, follow me. We'll follow the scent of fish. If they're taking them out of the river, we can assume that they must have a prey-pile of the stuff and they shouldn't be too difficult to find." Ella nodded. Flicking her tail, she gathered a few other campers and made her way to the overwhelming stink of fish that really wasn't hard to find at all. The smell led them to a large pile of sticks, with small, dirt-colored creatures darting in and out. Beavers!

Haywing listened carefully to Birchmist's story. Small, fuzzy brown animals, hunting fish. They were probably otters, he thought to himself. Beavers were too herbivorous for this. Or maybe a mink, or weasel? Something in the family, he reasoned. Still, he didn't see why they needed to take action just yet. Other animals needed to hunt for food too, after all. From the mink (or whatever it was)'s perspective, perhaps they were the thieves, emptying the lake of their dinner! After all, the camp only operated for a short time each year, while these other animals might always live there.

He decides to go fishing rather than investigate right away. It would be fiiiiiine. He was sure they'd all still find enough fish to feed the camp, even without bothering the local wildlife.

He is going to investigate this for himSELF.

Art/Blurb 1: Crowcall pulled out yet another massive fish, adding it to the pile. This made his happy dance all the more energetic, as he sang of victory and feasts! "Neener neener neener! You'll never outrace me you stupid fishies!" He called down. Oh the eating would be good tonight! So many fat fish! And that last one was the biggest one yet! He'd like to see anyone TRY to catch one bigger! It was likely the biggest one in the lake! And all caught thanks to him, the best fishercat in camp. BOOYEAH!

Wait until Blossomcrown and Emberstar heard about this, they would be so proud! Alright, one more time! Heeeeere fishy, fishy, fishy...

Art/Blurb 2: At the mention of fish stealers, Crowcall hissed. "We need every bot of fish we're catching, how dare they!" He hissed, all of the fur on his back standing up on end. His tail lashed about for a moment, as he considered. "Screw it, I am going to scare them away! Treat them to a powerful Crowcall yell!" He started to stomp towards the direction the creatures had last been seen, fury in his eyes and claws at the ready.

Whoever it was? They would be eating claws and not fish tonight!
