Sunny swam around, looking at the ocean floor for treasure. She always had loved going exploring in the ocean for shiny things. Wether that be bottle caps, rings, pearls, and much more. They’re cave, which they live has a small one-off cavern that she holds all her treasures in. While thinking about the small statues in her room, she noticed something gleaming on the ground. Strangely it had a slight glow when they approached it. Sunny once had heard about rare pearls that had been scattered across the land. She picked up the strange pearl, clutching it in their arms. I’ll take a better look when I get home. She looked around to make sure no ome had noticed her, and swam off in a flash.

Since then, sunny has always kept it with her around a chain with her tail. Sometimes, she even hears strange whispers from it occasionally.

Pokemon name: Mey
pokemon pronouns: She/Her
prompt: One of Mey's most treasured memories is when her brother finally convinced her to swim in the ocean. Before, she had always been terrified of any body of water larger than her bathtub. Her mother had always told her horrible tales of the deep when she was young and she never got to meet her father who lived in that horrible deep. But, one day her brother dragged her playfully into the water, a wave hit, and she loved it. It felt like the home she never really had. Small fish pokemon swam in schools and beautifully swaying kelps and corals were everywhere. Mey's brother was pure espeon, though and she knew she couldn't abandon him for the sea. She took a beautiful coral and thanked him for pushing her limits, just this once.
She started to grow more coral in a tank with the coral she took from the sea and uses it to help repopulate coral in the ocean everytime she goes.

Pokemon name: Aurora
pokemon pronouns: She/it
prompt:

It was late at night when she saw it. The Aurora Borealis. Standing in a soft yet plentiful flower field as the cold, icy wind raged on. Yet, she could not feel it. Her attention was solely fixed on the mesmerizing sight that engulfed her in the skies. For she could not feel the wind that amassed her in power, she did not notice someone coming up behind her. Never taking her eyes off of the entrancing sight before her, her and the person who would become her future trainer watched the painted night sky together. Thus, her name was born.

Pokemon name: Coral
pokemon pronouns: She/Her
prompt:

Coral had made her home deep in the cave for a reason: it was here she could live her life in peace and never be bothered by the trainers that so plagued her kind. Or, at least, that was how she thought at first. One day, she heard footsteps enter her cave, and she knew immediately from the determined stride that this was no researcher or explorer. No, this had to be a trainer. And for a moment, their eyes met and she knew the trainer had made their mind up. She only grinned in response. You want her? Time to make this a challenge then!

Coral knew her cave like the back of her paw, and navigated it with expert ease. Turning, twisting, diving, jumping, each move was made with grace and purpose. To her stunned shock however, the trainer was always just behind her, keeping up somehow. She had to admit, she was a touch impressed. Eventually, they ran out of places to go. Standing in that corner, she confidently posed before issuing a challenge cry. Go ahead. Show her what your team can do.

Once more she was impressed with how the trainer handled their team. Although small, the team was efficient and deeply bonded. These were friends, not mere tools. This trainer... understood that pokemon were not mere beasts of burden. And although her power won... she found herself reaching out a paw for the trainer afterwards, head bowed. Let us start a new journey together.

Pokemon name: Sylph
pokemon pronouns: he/they
prompt: [864 words]

It is said that once there was a Pokémon fused of two powerful types, one beautiful enough to bring fighting to a standstill and powerful enough to see into the very hearts and minds of its opponents. With this power, and a twisted sense of trickery, it turned to a cruel sense of humor, using these powers to its advantage, and to the harm of others. The affected Pokémon had no way of fighting back against such an opponent, and cried out to Arceus itself to rescue them. Taking pity on its children, Arceus intervened, striking down the trickster and imprisoning it in the bottom of a deep, dark lake, in a slumber it would not wake from until an appointed time, when it would be safe to re-emerge. For Arceus cared about its children, even this trickster, and wished it could someday walk free without doing harm to others.

    - - - - -

“…and they say that that’s why this lake feels so weird!” Mikah continued, clutching the small brochure in his paws, gazing fearfully out at the still surface of the water, then at the foggy mountain peaks overhead.

“That’s just a legend, surely,” Marley countered, scratching one of his ears. “There was a gift shop down the path- that story’s gotta be part of their marketing scheme.”

“I don’t know how true it is,” Snatch said, “but our commission still takes us up here. A treasure-hunting request- supposedly there’s something of great value buried at the center of the lake. I’ll go swim around and check.”

“Try not to awaken any ancient evils!” Mikah called cheerfully.

Disappearing into the still water with a small splash, Snatch descended into the dark water. It felt eerily still down here, and he shivered a little bit, wondering if that story from Mikah’s silly brochure might have any merit at all.

He shook himself, frowning. He had a job to do- despite the creeping weird feelings about this place, he would see it through.

A round of the lakebed, peering closely at the pebbly ground, revealed nothing at first glance- but then, as Snatch recircled the center of the lake, something caught his eye with a quick shimmer. Swimming down to get a better look, he saw a flat disk, a deep color that matched the abyss of water around him, emblazoned with a golden symbol.

Is this… the mark of Arceus? He wondered. Surely this must be the treasure we’re looking for. It doesn’t feel quite right to disturb it, though- maybe I’ll bring it up to show the others, and then we can talk about what to do with it.

As soon as Snatch reached out a fin to brush the smooth plate, the symbol blazed to life, glow increasing in intensity, finally bursting into a flare of white light and sheer power that sent Snatch tumbling backwards through the water.

    - - - - -

“Whats taking so long?” Mikah asked, peering as far as he could into the lake. “Do you think he’s found anything yet?”

“He’ll be back soon,” Marley reassured him. “Just be patient.”

At those words, a beam of light erupted at the center of the lake, so bright that the two had to close their eyes against it. And when they saw what had appeared in the middle of the water, Mikah yelped and dropped his brochure.

“I-I guess he found something,” he stammered, looking wide-eyed at the Pokémon that had appeared.

    - - - - -

When Sylph awoke, their first awareness was of dark, and then a blinding light- and then dark again, but somehow not as dark as before.

They stretched their paws out, finding that they could move again, and let out a rumbling chuckle. Finally. Finally free- they did not know how long it had been, but they were finally out-

-their eye caught on a small figure nearby. Another Pokémon, sharp-toothed and nervous looking, eyeing them apprehensively.

Ah, Sylph spoke, a strong voice echoing in the little Carvanha’s mind. Are you the one who freed me?

    A nod.

You have my thanks, Sylph continued. That prison was frightfully boring- and it’s so good to see light again, and feel the water on my fur. Shall we go up to the surface together?

    Another hesitant nod.

Good. And without waiting, Sylph darted upwards, swimming fast as he could, eager to see the sky, and feel solid ground under his paws again.

Alighting on the beach, he stood still, inhaling deeply. It felt good to breathe fresh air again.

So, Arceus finally saw fit to release me? He mused. It’s been so long since I tampered with mortals’ quarrels, maybe I can-

And then he turned around, casting a glance at the little fish who had freed him, conversing with a small huddle of other Pokémon on the shore, watching him warily from a slight distance. Rather than the desire to play with them- he felt a warm feeling burst in his chest. Something like gratitude.

Perhaps toying with the fates of mortals can wait, Sylph decided. I’ve waited so long to be freed- and it does feel so good to be out. I’ll stay and treasure this moment for a little bit longer.

i think i'm gonna choose this entry as the winner!!! i really thought it was endearing, and liked the premise of this creature having to be trapped!!
