Rook was studying her journal. She wrote down information that she has accumulated along her journey. It's been a long one.

Two years ago, there was a fallout. A meteor striked the earth, causing mass extinction. Those who survived wouldn't be lucky, as crops would not last and the soot that blanketed the earth would pollute the waters. Most had no real survival skills, and bit the world a bittersweet good-bye. But Rook was many steps ahead. She had predicted this. But no one cared to listen. And now, here she was, in her bunker. Safe. But alone.

Throughout her time, she's mostly remained underground to prevent herself from getting any toxins in her lungs. She occupies herself with books and makeshift play-things. But one can only go so long without interaction. She hasn't seen or heard a living thing since the blast. At first she felt contemptful. But over the weeks and months, she grew tired of being alone. So, she decided to head out for a walk. Things have mostly settled, so she grabbed her bag with supplies and left.

Step. Step. Step.

Those steps were not hers.

That breathing was not hers.

“Two days ago I watched the moon fall from the sky. Now everyone is claiming it didn’t exist in the first place.”
Somehow he’s the only one who remembers. It was during a full lunar eclipse, a blood moon. Something happened that night, it was never supposed to be that red. He remembers clearly how he’d simply been observing and thought it was a trick of the eye.
Then, as he watched in horror, it shattered.
He remembers the events that played out so clearly following this. He’d raced inside as light vanished from the night sky and turned on the TV, expecting news reports everywhere to be reporting the disaster. Yet there was nothing - life continued as normal. The following morning, everyone he talked to insisted that there was no “moon” to begin with and asked him if he was alright - because as long as they knew the earth had no moon. All traces of the moon’s existence had completely vanished - as if it truly did not exist. He knows some pieces fell to earth, he saw them shoot through the atmosphere like falling stars. He intends to find those pieces, to prove what he knows is real.
