When Patches was but a normal housecat, his owner used to watch a lot of videos on the computer, over the speakers and without headphones, usually in the evening and the early hours of the night. Of course, his owner also had a fairly reasonable bedtime, so it wasn't the noise of the videos that kept Patches up, no. But Patches was always a fairly affectionate cat, always loved to be around his human. And since his human liked watching videos on youtube, well, so did Patches.

Well. Maybe he didn't always like the videos, but he did like to sit on his owner's lap and stare at the screen, or lounge on his desk and get scritches behind his ears and on his back and yes, sometimes even his tummy. But this meant that he was often... exposed to things, things no cat should ever have to be exposed to or comprehend.

And this is how Patches found out about hit game for the Sega Dreamcast, Seaman.

It haunted him like nothing else. He lay awake at night long after his human shut off the computer and had curled up in bed, sound asleep and totally unaffected by the horrors. Seaman was eternal. Seaman could always be there. Seaman knew everything about him, and what he didn't know, he would learn through asking his god forsaken questions. Patches would be compelled to answer by the strange and unearthly force that was Seaman, unable to stop himself. But this is not what he feared about the strange creature most.

He feared that, once Seaman found out everything it could about him, it would turn Patches into a Seaman as well.

But that is surely unrealistic, only the stuff of nightmares, right?

It's dangerous by the river, after all.

"Hey! Barra!" Jackal's familiar low voice penetrated Barra's sleeplike-state. His eyes flickered open and he yawned, body tired. The two young cats had been best friends for a long time.
"What, Jack?" He grumbled, turning over and stretching out on his back, legs up in the air.
"Follow me!" Jack replied, nudging Barramundi gently on the shoulder before trotting outside. Grumbling slightly, Barra got to his paws and followed after him.

"Where are we going?" Barra queried, paws dragging slightly.
"Just shut up and follow me. It'll be worth the missed sleep, I promise."

The two walked shoulder-to-shoulder, heading out towards Sanddollar Shore.
After a bit of walking, they reached the edge of one of the cliff faces, and Jackal sat down, staring out at the ocean.
Barra paused and sat down as well, letting out a yawn. "Why'd you bring be out here just to sit down?"
Jack grinned and gestured to the ocean. "Look."
Barra followed Jack's line of sight and his eyes widened.
The water was flowing with bioluminescence, the moon rested low on the horizon, and the southern lights fluttered across the sky.
It was beautiful.

And that is what started the weekly, sometimes nightly, tradition. Although many moons have passed, and other responsibilities have since been passed on to both cats as they reached adulthood, they still take the trip to watch the stars at night.

This sort of this goes on all night long, to the great annoyance of her roommate, who is trying to sleep.

Prompt: He knows they're out there, somewhere. The Mysterious Lights. He saw them in the sky one night and could immediately tell they were different than normal starlight. Upon closer inspection, the lights seemed to be attached to some sort of large, metallic body that was circular in shape. A bird perhaps? He'd never seen birds hover in the air like that though. As he was trying to fathom just what sort of creature it could be, it suddenly shot westwards across the sky, faster than any falcon he'd ever seen, and in the time it took him to blink, it had vanished without a trace.

Ever since then, he's spent his nights searching for those mysterious lights and they have shown up a handful of times since then. He's tried showing them to his clanmates, but they usually get too bored or tired to stay up long into the night to keep watching with him. It doesn't help that they don't take him seriously and clearly don't believe him. They tell him he's crazy, but he's not crazy. He's seen them with his own keen eyes! And he knows that they want something. He's not sure what it is, but he knows he should keep an eye out for them because it would be foolish to assume they want to be friends.

He knows they're coming. You've got to believe him! And if the clan isn't prepared for their arrival, it could very well spell the end for them. He's seen the signs they've left behind! The clan must prepare, otherwise they're doomed! DOOMED!
