The small kitten could not hear, could not see, could not even really smell quite yet. All they had was a feeling of themselves and... being alone. They could feel nobody, no bodies of warmth of soft noses, or even rough tongues to lick them clean. No wiggling paws, no whispers of voices, just the chill wind of the night air and the uncomfortable sensation of being alone. They could not remember much, not yet. Had it always been this way? Surely not. Surely, at some point, they had all of those things. Why could they not remember, why was it all a blank? Did something happen? Where was his family? Why... why were they struggling with something so basic even?
They were not sure how long it was before they felt a warm tickling against them. ..Fur? Slowly, words could be made out. "Hey. Hey hang in there little guy. You've got a whole world to see. Hang in there! Hang in there!" It was so slow, so hard, but eventually the little kitten opened their eyes. He was aware of being carried, and peering up he saw a rather large storkie, with rather dark black fur and even darker markings. But those eyes! They were so bright and green, filled with life and strength! Why... why were they here? How had they found them?
They were unsure how much time passed, until they woke up again in a warm bed. But this time, they could feel fur against them, hear a steady heartbeat, a deep rumbling purr. "You're awake... thank goodness!" The kitten peered up, curious but still so very weak. "I'm Ashfern and... well. The stars helped us find you and I... well. I will be your new big brother. So dont you worry about anything ever again. I will protect you. I will love you. I will keep you safe. You will lose no more." The kitten felt reassured by those heavy words, even if still confused how they got here in the first place. They leaned against their new brother, exhaling a sigh of content. Okay. Okay. They would trust in this large creature. This one carried warmth, safety. Most of all, they carried love. Maybe everything really would be alright. Maybe they could live a life free of worries, free of strife. What a big responsibility, this new brother of theirs was taking on. Why?
Before they could stop themselves, that was the word that escaped them. "Why?" They asked Ashfern, genuinely confused. The dark storkie simply smiled, that warmth never leaving their eyes.
"When I was young, I lost everything too," they answered, after a time. "Lets build our world back together, okay? You and I." The kitten considered this for a long moment, before mewing again.
"You... and I," they agreed, their voice soft but filled with determination. "Siblings." Ashfern nodded, leaning down to gently lick the kitten's fur.
"Siblings." He agreed, a rather loud purr rumbling deep in his chest and across his words. "Siblings."

"Let your spark light your world!"
