Prompt:Though the sun shone bright on VerdantClan’s forest, a harsh gale of wind reminded the Clan of the season, trees were shedding, browned, rotting leaves carpeted the surface. Only a curious pale figure showed life. It approached the side of the river, bending and watching the surface carefully for signs of movement.
Finchsong hunted as he pleased, moving up the river on his fishing expedition as to take in more of the territory. His mouse friend clung tightly to his pelt as he inspected the river side, seeing the brittle reeds hanging over the water. It especially caught his attention when the further he ventured, the river widened at a section, and an open pocket was added to the river, though the water there moved slowly, out of the way of rougher currents. It was a pleasant discovery, he was looking for a still place to swim after all. He waded in a pace at a time, then pushed off of the bank and dove. After resurfacing several times he crawled out, a confused expression set across his face. after collecting his companion and catch he beelined towards the camp’s location.
“I’m so glad to see that you’ve been coping well!” Sunstar stood in front of the soaking tom, several fish hanging from his mouth.
“take a liking to fishing?”
“Very much,” Finchsong dropped his catch on the ground.
“Swimming too I see?” there was humor in his voice. Finchsong’s ears twitched nervously.
He shook his sodden thick pelt, spraying water in all directions as the leader strolled away.
“Hey Hawksight, could I tell you something?” he called to his clanmate.
The young brown warrior’s ears perked and he rushed to Finchsong’s side.
“Hey, what’s up?” he showed interest, “Also, did you go for a swim?”
“No matter, I need your answer. While I was fishing I realised there’s more to the territory than meets the eye, is this known already?”
“You’re being vague… What do you mean exactly?”
“Uhh, best I show you, hard to explain I guess.”
“Now?” Hawksight exclaimed, “I just retired for the day, but you seem pretty serious about all of this.” he stretched his forepaws.
“We’re off?”
“Come on, let’s go.”
“Awhh Finchsong you didn’t tell me you had to swim to see whatever there is,” Hawksight stared at the water repulsively, “why on earth would you be swimming when it’s so cold out? You must have bees in your brain!”
“Its refreshing, especially in the mornings, come on, it isn’t as cold as you would think.” the pale tabby waited, already shoulder high in the river, “I’ve seen you swim you’re good at it.”
He winced as he strode into the water, “Now, what’s all this trouble for, my friend.”
Finchsong looked into the deep center of the pool.
“Now we dive.”
his companion sighed, “Great StarClan I didn’t sign up for this.”
The two held their breaths and swam deep to the centre of the pool, the sun shone through the clear water into the gaping mouth of a cavern, craggy openings resembling that of a cave. It was so vast that it sent a chill of foreboding through the two cats.
“That’s so weird,” Hawksight was staring down into the water while he floated at the surface, “how did that get there?”
“I was thinking that maybe the river rose, maybe it was first one of the small streams and now the current is stronger.”
“Perhaps,” the tawny tom waited on the bank, “not much to do about it though, not like we can make use of it now that it’s underwater.”
“It is interesting, maybe there’s similar things like this scattered all over the territory. Anyway, thanks for coming with me, sorry for inconveniencing you, I hope the knowledge will be somewhat beneficial.”
“Of course! I don’t think any of us would have found it in a hundred moons, thank you.” Hawksight yawned, “come on, we’re soaking, let’s dry off at camp.”
