Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.
Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.
[S]Hair, Shine, Teeth
[C]Fur, Tail
Hello! First adopt as a main artist!! I quite like this kid a lot ^^
For this competition, I’d like you to write a short poem about this kal! 250 words or less, no extras this time! Feel free to pretty up, but this won’t affect judging.

poem: (250 words max)
57 words
The sun is setting
The desert is awake
Coyote creeps,
No sound she makes
Only when the day is done
Can Coyote have fun
Sneaking, watching,
waiting, drawing.
Draw the creatures
Pencil on paper.
Sneaking, drawing,
Watching, waiting.
The creatures on paper
Come to life
An owl, a bird,
Coyotes, a snake,
The creatures
Captured on paper

poem:
can he trust himself enough to be a leader, or will he fall behind the others? [209/250]
When the evening whistle calls
The sheepdog joins the herd.
The sheep all bleat
As the dog howls his greet
But it’s his song that’s slurred.
“Follow me, dear sheep,
The shepherd’s my employer.
With a posture so green,
An immaculate scene!
Is it only I who enjoys Her?”
The sheep lift their heads
And come to realize
The field, rather dead,
Has not kept the herd fed,
Despite the dog’s words otherwise.
How do they know?
They say the pasture is barren
But the barn blocks their view from the wood.
And if they could,
They would not know where else flora is foreign.
“No,” says the ewe,
“We need not your protection.
Your face remains stark,
Your howl’s now a bark,
Yet you bear the wolf’s complexion.”
But he is not a wolf
Even in the moon’s silver rays.
The shepherd’s his master,
The herd he must look after
Despite the heft of his growls and glowing eyes in the haze.
The flock, now fraught,
So pallid and famished,
The sheep look around
For that horrible sound
But the dog has simply vanished.
As the new day comes
The cock crows at dawn -
But the canine cries
Stop the sun’s morning rise
And the herd slumbers on.

poem:
cold words crept
through red beds, bedheads
woke me in the heat of night
sweat beads shine
in cool moonline
tell me are they nightmares,
futures, fraught dreams?
tell me where i've been
again, again again
and fill my swimming head
with sweet neat sleep
why walking comes by
while your dry eyes cry
we always called it
by the name it really had
but where are you now,
mom, brother, dad?
family harmony disarming me
for the last cutting kill
where bad dreams fall
just a start to shattered heart
hold that suckling cold
till it fills my throat
and drowns me

poem:
the sun is always there
in the night
in the dark
through rain and through shine
when you are alone
and when you are blind
the sun is not gone
even when you can’t see it
its warmth dares to find you
its power is freeing
and when you are scared
there’s no need to fear
for you are protected;
the sun is right here

Born in the desert, quiet and forlorn.
She comes out quite unlike any other.
Loud and proud, yet many have seen her mourn.
Death's ancient call had taken her mother.
But she would not drown in tears forever.
Pushing all her sorrows aside she ran.
She pushed through much, but memories? Never.
At last, she saw she had averted the plan.
She was to love, cherish mother's memory.
Because that's all that was left. Her living memory.

poem: (250 words max)
the sun
peeking out over the horizon
only there for a few short hours before
it dips
back down into the waves
light spun
like thread around trees and gardens
drifting ships
sun rays like wind in their sails
Echo sits by her window
watching as the world is born anew
with the gold of a fresh dawn
everything bathed
in
light
and suddenly her sorrow
weighed down and blue
is replaced with warm
yellow, untouched by shade
therein
delight
