Halloween, and the Day of the Dead actually, originated from a Celtic holiday called Samhain. The Celtic believed that on the eve of Samhain, the 31st of October, is when the veil between the living and the dead were at it's most transparent. They believed that this allowed the spirits of the dead to cross over to our realm of existence. After Roman conquests, Samhain was absorbed into Christian culture. The festival of Samhain become All Saints day on November 1st, and the celebration of the eve became what we know as Halloween.

Prompt: Edit Whoooops i read the wrong one shhh The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, takes place October 31 through November 2 in Mexico and a few other Hispanic countries. November 1st, Dia de los Inocentes, honors children that died, and family members decorate graves with baby's breath and white orchids. On November 2nd, Dia de los Muertos, families honor adults who have died and place orange marigolds on grave sites.

The original Aztec celebration actually lasted a month long, but when Spanish conquistadors came over to Mexico in the 16th century, they merged the festival with the Catholic All Saints' Day. Today's celebration is a mix of both Aztec rituals of skulls, altars to the dead and food with Catholic masses and prayers. p

Prompt: Trick-or-treating has been around since medieval times! The only main is that it was originally called 'souling' which is so much cooler. Otherwise, it was still the same concept of going around preforming some sort of song or act to get either food, drinks, or trinkets! It wasn't until the 1950's in the US that candy sellers started promoting the use of candy for halloween!
