Even when he was a kid he was always into board games, though not the more involved ones like he plays now. Monopoly, Candyland, Ludo; his family had quite the collection when he was young, kept in a storage box in the living room. Whenever it was a rainy day Atticus would rush to the box to start pulling them out, and a day dedicated to family fun would ensue. Sometimes they'd sit at the dining table, sometimes on the floor in the lounge. The latter is what Atticus liked best because, if the board was placed on the wooden coffee table, that meant he got to hear the sound of the dice. He's not sure if he liked this sound purely for the sound itself, or because of the warm emotions attached to it; possibly, it was both. But the sound of dice being rolled on a hard surface - specifically wood - was music to his ears.

When he grew into his teens and started playing Dungeons & Dragons, which involved multiple resin dice, that's when it seemed like his audio euphoria hit cloud nine. He couldn't explain it to anyone else but the sound was just so satisfying. His friends understand the love for a certain sound - everyone's got something that tickles their fancy in that way - but some of them do scold him for using a wooden dice tray rather than a leather one. He's not bothered about the possibility of them chipping on the harder surface. He can always make some more, and honestly, for him, the sound is absolutely worth it.
