Despite humans actually having decent ability to smell things, humans are absolutely awful at figuring out what scents are in a mixture of odors, even if they've been trained to recognize all of the odors involved.
People can pick out 1 odor in a mixture correctly around 60-80% of the time, 2 odors correctly only 10-40% of the time, 3 odors correctly only 5-15% of the time, and 4 odors correctly only about 2% of the time; the percentage of correct identifications drops to 0% for any number of odorants over four.
