Cat Name: Pinefeather
Gender: Tom
Rank: Warrior
Clan: ≋O≋c≋e≋a≋n≋ ≋C≋l≋a≋n
Age: 27 moons
- 3 years -
Prompt: Trapped. Forever. At least, that's how it seemed. Pinefeather and his close friend, Cherrybounce, had wandered and got stuck in new tunnels near their known tunnel system and home to their clan after a spooky, rare hurricane developed near them. Pinefeather and Cherrybounce had been forced into the tunnel system by a rush of waves and water. They became trapped in a small cave within the tunnel system.

Pinefeather gasped as cold water touched his toe pads. "Cherrybounce!" He yelped in fear and nearly knocked his exploration partner off the platform they had camped on for a while. Pinefeather felt his heart race as he scented Cherrybounce's fear, no longer hopeful and optimistic demener. The water had begun to rise when they realized there was a large hole at the roof of the hollow cave, seeping out water. Pinefeather could only pray for a way out when he realized the choice he would have to make as time began slipping away. The water was up to their shoulders now and Cherrybounce was freaking out. She had a right to be fearful but for many reasons like the fact between the two of them she didn't know how to swim.

Cherrybounce, whenever it was time to practice swimming as an apprentice she'd always find an excuse to skip the class but now she very much regretted that choice that, now, could be a matter of life and death and so far, the outcomes weren't looking too bright. Pinefeather took in his last fearful breath as he made his choice.

It was either me or you Cherrybounce. I love you.

He shoved Cherrybounce through the hole in the roof and prayed she'd at least get another shot for life, unlike him. I'm sorry.

Cat Name: Coyotebite
Gender: Tom
Rank: Warrior
Clan: Briarclan
Age: 4 years
Prompt: i might have gotten carried away...
Coyotebite could never decide if Sunfreckle was a genius, or maniacal. At times, she seemed to have these moments of clarity in which she spoke in rivulets of knowledge and ideas that only the greatest of cats could think up. She was on top of the world, with the rest of the clan beneath her. But mostly, she just seemed loon-brained. He loved her, as deep a cat can love another. But not in the romantic way; more of a big brother watching over a little sister repeatedly poke her paw into a light socket sort of way. It was through this morbid sense of love that he held onto her. But that love can only go so far. And when murder is involved, well...that question of her sanity kept Coyotebite going in circles.

Coyotebite was born the youngest in a litter of five, and with that many mouths to feed, sometimes attention was hard to come by. His parents tried very hard to provide for them the best they could, even taking shifts to care for them so that the other nursery queens could get a break. He was barely three moons old when Rookstar took complete tyrannical control of Briarclan, killing Coyotekit's father in the massacre and driving out most of the other clan members. In the aftermath, little Sunkit was left behind by the death of her parents. She had barely learned to walk when the incident happened. Coyotekit's mother graciously took in the orphan kit, never minding the extra care that came with it.

Coyotekit, being the smallest of his siblings, was tasked with making sure Sunkit got the supplemental care she needed. Extra servings of prey, warmth in the night when the wind blew coldest, and knowledge about the world around them. He basically raised Sunkit when his mother was not around, but he didn't mind. The two became very good friends, with Sunkit being Coyotekit's little shadow. She knew the truth about her past and what happened to her parents through the everyday bullying by Coyotekit's other siblings, but that never deterred her from calling him her big brother. They were inseparable; where one went, the other followed.

It didn't take long to notice that Sunpaw was exceptional in most training exercises her mentor threw at her. By the time she was ten moons old, her mentor had run out of things to teach her. But instead of graduating early, she insisted on waiting for Coyotepaw so they could become warriors together. In this time, the bullying from their peers continued. They hardly accepted Sunpaw as normal, and thought Coyotepaw was ridiculous for giving her the time of day. It was also during their apprenticeship that Coyotepaw began noticing Sunpaw's irregular behaviors. During battle training, she would draw blood from others on purpose, though she would claim she forgot and let her claws out by accident. She would also torture any prey she caught, pressing on their bodies slowly until they died or she was interrupted by another cat approaching. Coyotebite was getting...concerned about her, to say the least.

Their early days as warriors were typically long and happy, despite Sunfreckle's increasingly odd behavior. They hunted and fished together, patrolling the lands without a care in the world. They were happy together. One day, the lifeless body of a kit was found outside of the camp. Everyone assumed they had drowned in the river and left it at that, but Coyotebite noticed that Sunfreckle could not wretch her gaze away from the body. It was as if she were entranced. He had a bad feeling shadowing his thoughts... But no, Sunfreckle would never do that. He let the thought go.

A few moons passed without much happening. In that time, Coyotebite and Sunfreckle received their first apprentices. They trained together, with Sunfreckle being an extraordinarily patient and cheerful mentor. Coyotebite let his apprehensions fall into the background noise - why should he worry? They were happy, and there was no need for worry. However, he would soon find out that his doubts were correct all along.

Sunfreckle had taken her apprentice out for training early one morning. Shortly after noon, she arrived back at camp in a panic and reported that the apprentice had taken a tumble off the side of the training ridge and into the stream below. She could not reach them in time before they drowned in the currents that had been so high the past moon due to heavy rains. Though saddened by this, Coyotebite noticed that she was not nearly as distraught as she should be. That familiar thought wormed in the back of his mind...

He took Sunfreckle out the following day for a hunt in the woods. There, far from the reach of camp, he asked what really happened with her apprentice. And she spilled every word in an excited tone, her eyes the brightest Coyotebite had ever seen them. He was appalled to discover that she in fact pushed the young cat off the ledge and watched them drown to see how long it took for a cat to lose all their energy and die. Coyotebite was sickened, disgusted by this. He screamed at Sunfreckle, cried out that she was insane and had gone too far. But she wasn't hearing it; instead, she attempted to convince Coyotebite to join her in her escapades. They could even do something to his apprentice, this time to see how many poisonous herbs a cat could take. The possibilities were endless to her.

Coyotebite was in a difficult situation now. He knew that if he announced the truth to the clan, they would exile Sunfreckle. Some would even try to kill her in revenge. But if he let this action slide, there was no telling what else she would do to satiate her sick desires. Did he give up his closest friend, or turn the other way?

      Cat Name: Tanglebird
      Gender: molly
      Rank: elder queen
      Clan: elmclan
      Age: 49 moons
      Prompt:

Tanglebird was born to be a mother, at least that was always her opinion. She always swore, whatever it took, she would raise a kit, regardless of if it were her own. Which is why as she grew older it was no surprise the retiring elder queen chose tanglebird as her replacement. Now, she could take care of all the kits and their mothers young and old, all of them would become kits of her own in a way. She relished this, but the job came at the price of loneliness for most. Her extroverted demeanor suffered underneath the burden of taking careful watch over those who were pregnant or nursing, alongside the kits themselves. The tom was distant, and hesitant to take an active role in parenting. When he wandered into the nursery, clutching a tiny, mewling kit in his jaws, Tanglebird could smell his disregard and dislike for the small child.

Tanglebird felt herself harden internally, readying herself to be stern and harsh, in this den things would play by her rules, as was clan law. She was in-charge, and what she said went. Fadedstone approached her, a disinterested expression falling across his features as he set the kit in front of her.

"I can't take care of it." Tanglebird blinked, she could see red, and if she weren't so skilled at avoiding conflict she'd slash his face off and make him see it too. "Why not? You did create him, did you not?" she questioned, lowering her head down to peer at the tiny child. It's swirled coat was a combination of fadedstone and no possible cat here. She could feel more questions brewing, but chose instead to bite her tongue. It didn't matter where the kit came from, what mattered is that fadedstone took responsibility for his own irresponsibility. The kit was his, regardless of whether he wanted it or not. "Yes but-" with a sharp tsk, tanglebird cut him off. "Then you will take care of it. All toms are responsible for the progeny you create. You made the choice, now live with it." she hissed, doing her best to keep her voice down both for the mothers around her and the kit at her feet. Fadedstone offered no additional comment, staring at her. He looked away first, and she could smell the shame on his pelt.

"Why don't you raise it?" fadedstone spoke softly, finally raising his blue gaze to meet hers. She flexed her claws in the moss she sat in. "Because I'm here for those who are truly in need of a parent, not for deadbeat dads who decided they don't want the aftermath of a one-night stand." she responded. Her ears flicking in annoyance. Part of her wanted to take the kit, if only to spare him the rough childhood she was certain he was going to face, but fadedstone needed to be taught a lesson. Otherwise this was going to happen again.

Tanglebird took a long moment to watch the kit, weighing the pros and cons of taking him and letting fadedstone leave, regardless of her personal urge to punish him for his decision. If she took the kit she could raise him properly, and things night turn out fine. But she had a reputation to protect, and up until now she had not let a capable parent off the hook. It was a known rule among elder queens, to never let irresponsibility dictate your decision when it came to a kit, but tanglebird was worried it might end with an emotionally distant child who never had proper care because the father couldn't care enough. Tanglebird felt her heart lurch, but the path is never straight, and so she stood up straight, looked fadedstone in the eyes and spoke with clarity her final authority. .

"You'll raise the kit as your own. You've lined your nest, now lie in it."

    A choice to be made.
    A decision of two,
    like emerald and jade.

    He, who’s name is a God’s.
Sun-kissed fur and deep green eyes,
    Muddled head deep in thought.

    Truly it isn’t that hard.
    It isn’t life or death.

    Just a fun little game,
    Amongst the starved.

Hungry eyes bored holes in his head.
    Urging to make haste.

    The decision is simple, really.
There lies 2 options for lunch.

Is it fish or meat, silly?

Cat Name: Ginger | Shoe
Gender: Female
Rank: Subordinate
Clan: The Renegades
Age: 3yrs
Prompt:
It was hot - too hot. Even though the sun was already starting to sink into the horizon, the heat was going nowhere. Ginger looked up into the brightly colored sky and squinted her eyes at the brightness. Today, she was taking the trial to become a subordinate. A year ago she had decided that being a lone cat in the big city was too dangerous by yourself - and honestly, pretty lonely. So, she joined this weird group of cats called 'The Renegades' as a recruit. It was hard being in the lowest position in the group. You got tasked with the worst jobs, but being in a clan had really changed her life. The Boss had finally told her this morning that she would be undergoing the trial and, if she succeeded, she would gain her clan name. It was a really weird custom, but Ginger was excited that she would finally be moving up in the world. The trial was simple - survive a day in the dump by yourself and bring back a piece of trash to receive your name. She had already done the surviving part for most of the day, so now she should focus on what to bring back.

Ginger was street smart, but she wasn't learned smart. Honestly, she had no idea what humans called their trash - only The Boss really knew their language. "Guess that's why he's the boss." she murmured to herself. The she-cat flicked her tail and gazed at the heaps of trash around her. What called to her? Everything smelt so weird here, and nothing made any sense to her. What on earth did humans use all this stuff for? Oh well, she had better find something. Carefully digging through a pile of trash, the she-cat sorted through all kinds of odd junk for quite a while until something caught her eye. Picking it up with her teeth, she saved it from the gross heap and carried it away. It was stick-like and had four teeth on the end, but it left an awful metallic taste in her mouth (fork). Spitting it out, Ginger looked at it as she considered taking back the strange object. What was this thing even called? What if it gave her some weird, dumb name? Still, it had been the only thing so far to catch her eye.

Sighing, the she-cat did one more look around her. The sun was almost set now, and those in the trial could go back to camp once night hit. "I guess it's you and me, stick thing," she spoke as if the sentiment would assure her of her decision. It did not. Grabbing it once again, Ginger turned tail and started walking back towards the outer fence of the dump. The hole that led back into the forest was around here somewhere, now where was it again? Suddenly, something caught her eye. High on a trash heap lay something brown. Was it some kind of prey? Ginger's stomach growled just thinking about food. Well, there was no harm in stopping one more time to check it out.

Carefully climbing up trash mountain, the she-cat made her way to the object. It was long and had string attached to it, and after trying to take a bite out of it the she-cat concluded that it was in fact not food nor prey. "Wait... don't humans put something like this on their paws?" the feline vaguely remembered seeing some people wearing them in the city. What weird creatures.. Ginger had never seen one so close up before though. Was this what she should take back? She already had a connection with the stick thing, but this object called to her as well. What should she pick? She had absolutely no idea what either thing was called, so weighing what sounded cooler was not an option.

After staring at both objects for longer than she would care to admit, Ginger suddenly reached forward and grabbed the shoe in her mouth and took off down the garbage heap. She couldn't think about the decision, she just had to make one! The brown, leathery object was much heavier than she was expecting but there was no turning back now. Scurrying away, she made her way to the hole in the fence and returned to camp.

Ginger was bristling with excitement and pride as she plopped the object on the ground in front of The Boss' old car. He looked at her blankly before calling all of the clan's cats to a gathering. "Ginger has completed her trial, and has proven herself to The Renegades and myself. Her clan name will henceforth be Shoe!" The clan erupted in cheering and chanting, and the newly named Shoe beamed with happiness. Shoe... it was kinda cute. Ginger was content with the choice she had made.
