The city was rank and ugly, but Griffonclaw chose to live here, in this washed out, forever raining, gray and depressing place because of the Clan. The Clan not only offered him shelter and safety in numbers, but a purpose and a sense of belonging he had never felt elsewhere, even in the beautiful haven of the forest and the mountains. That did not, however, mean that he missed the natural wonders of the world outside the city.

He glanced behind him, making sure no stray youngbloods or kits were watching or following, and made his way out into the darkness of the city. Shadows surrounded him at every corner, but in the cover of darkness he felt safer from the passing humans than he would during daylight. He knew his way well, and knew if he wanted a glimpse at his favorite site then he would have to hurry.

The sand near the bay was rough under his pawpads, but he knew he was getting closer to Bird's Watch now, and just in time. The first rays of sunlight were beginning to peek over the mountains, and his eyes widened as he pushed himself harder, wound his way up the stairs of the Watch, and leaped to the top of the roof. He turned his green eyes towards the mountains.

A small breath was pushed from his chest as he watched the sky alight with fire, the clouds pink and orange and yellow, the sky a soft blue tinted with the colors of the flames that lit the peaks. He opened his jaws in awe, eyes still wide and in awe at the beautiful, painted, sunlit sky, the glowing orb of the sun illuminating the city until everything Griffonclaw saw was bathed in light, including himself.

xxxBut if you asked me? I’d tell you it was my reflection. That may sound narcissistic, and maybe it is. But looking into a puddle, seeing the identity I took so long accepting, seeing me as the cat I feel most comfortable as; how could you claim self acceptance isn’t beautiful?
xxxLet me explain a little more. I was born a daughter. But I never felt like one. It was like if I was born into a dog’s body, when I was really supposed to be a cat. For some cats, it’s easy to understand the problem, to accept you’re a tom. But it took 21 miserable moons for me to accept that. So now, when I see my reflection, the reflection of a proud and out tom, of true happiness, I can’t imagine anything more beautiful.”
