there were stories passed down, generation to generation.
they were just stories, we all knew deep down, but the fear still strikes as i gaze across the sea, storm clouds blowing in from the west.
it's been years since i've heard the tale, a wide eyed young kit staring terrified up at his mother.
it's silly to think i believed it.
...and yet the storm clouds approach faster and faster, the waves crashing angrily.

never go in the sea during a storm.

i take a step forward, the seafoam flowing around my feet.

the lightning will strike the water,

thunder rumbles in the distance.
i take a step forward.

and the thunder will boom, echoing the sound of cannons from afar.

the water is up to my knees, oh so cold.
i take a step forward.

sailing in on a ghostly ship, summoned by the lightning...

it's just a story. the wind blows my hair back.
i take a step forward.

and the two pirates of the storm will find you.

lightning cracks overhead and i scream, backing up out of the water. my chest heaves as i try to catch my breath.

this was stupid. i was so stupid, putting myself in danger like this. all because of a stupid elders' tale.

but the wind continued to blow from the west, the sky darkening as the rain starts to fall.
out in the distance, a cannon booms.

a ship appears from the horizon, illuminated by lightning.
it was just a story.

and yet it crawls closer and closer. i stand frozen in fear, trembling as it docks on the shore.

i see a dark outline at the top of the crows nest, climbing down with grace.
when it reaches the bottom, it walks closer, staring down at me from the bow.

a second figure walks to its side, and they nod to each other before jumping down from the bow to the beach below.

"hey, kid!"

the first one speaks, their tone loud and playful.
their partner smirks as i stare back, terrified.

"bold of you to come out here durin' a storm, huh!"

the rain is still falling, soaking me to the bone.

"no, but seriously kid, whatcha doin' out here all alone?"

"i..." i clear my throat and stand up tall, meeting the pirate's eyes.

"i came to find you."
