"So, you're new in town," Onyx said to Sawyer as they walked along the main street, Sawyer eyeing the shop fronts critically. When he didn't respond, Onyx continued, "Anything you wanna know or see?"

"Who's in charge around here? They a good person?" Sawyer asked, eyes still on the shops. Onyx thought the question was a little odd, but hey, this guy and his kid sidekick, Cardinal, were from another universe. Things could be weirder. Onyx thought about the question, having to dig around in his memory to find the answer.

"I think Baer is technically the mayor. Around here we live as one big family it feels like, but since we do technically have a dot on the map, someone had to be voted in, and everyone loves and trusts Baer. He's a real sweetheart."

"Good at protecting y'all?"

"From what?" Onyx giggled, causing Sawyer to look at him quizzically. Onyx stopped laughing and raised an eyebrow, prompting Sawyer to answer.

"From bandits. Ne'er-do-wells. Folks looking to do harm just for the sake of doing harm," Sawyer said. This was clearly a genuine concern of his. Onyx had to think about it. He'd never heard of anyone in town trying to do anything harmful to anyone, and the town was so small that travelers who passed through did so without a second thought. Eventually he shrugged.

"We don't really have someone to protect us, 'cause there's nothing to protect us from. I mean, Octavian and Damon are both real tough guys, but they're also super kind. If we needed protecting, I have no doubt they'd do it, but they don't call themselves sheriffs or nothin." Onyx explained. He pointed to Octavian's cabin on the hill farther from the rest of the town and Damon's boathouse as he spoke of each of them. Sawyer looked at both places, deep in thought.

The cowboy was about to ask another question when Cardinal came swooping down, landing roughly on the concrete and shaking himself out. The kid turned to Onyx excitedly. "You didn't say you had other dimension-hoppers here! Sawyer, guess what. There's a brother and sister who came from someplace else just like us!"

"Is there now?" Sawyer seemed interested in that, but it was only shown by a slight uptick in his tone and the twitch of an ear.

"Everett and Daisy! They crossed over to here on accident a few years ago. Their dad Octavian said he's always interested in hearing about our past world, if we want to talk."

"Octavian's their father, hm?" Sawyer squinted up at Octavian's cabin in the distance and Onyx nodded.

"He adopted the kits after they arrived and we couldn't get them home," Onyx explained.

"Kind man..." Sawyer said quietly before he looked out over the lake, then along the shopfronts, and then back at Onyx. He studied the black kalon closely, finding no tells of deceit or foolishness in Onyx's energy.

It was hard to believe that an entire town, no matter how small, could be filled with folks like this, but then again, this was a whole different world. Sawyer looked again at Cardinal, who was watching him too, curious to know his mentor's response to the town. Sawyer sighed and lowered the guarding wall around his heart by a single brick.

"I suppose we can stay for a while, until we find a place of our own," the cowboy said with no emotion, but his decision made Onyx swell. The black kalon puffed up his chest in a mixture of pride and excitement, his blue shine flashing in the sunlight as he did so. He was pleased to have done a good job at walking Sawyer around the town.

"Great! I'll let Fiona know and she can inspect a place for you, make sure everything's running right for you guys to move in for a bit."

"You don't need to do that-" Sawyer started, still believing he and Cardinal would only be staying a short while. Onyx brushed him off.

"'Course we do! Can't have you camping out in the woods when we got perfectly fine facilities. Wait here, I'll call her up." With that, Onyx stepped away, and Sawyer sighed, a hint of a smile tempting his lips.

If everyone was going to be as nice as this guy, perhaps he could finally have time to breathe.

      Prompt:

Arthur had spent all day preening to ensure everything was absolutely perfect. He was pristine, his every hair in the correct place, and as the showtime hour crept closer he was confident he was going to be the memory his guest of honor held in their mind after the circus was done, the one that remained after the cotton candy stomach aches and colorful tents had all but faded. He practiced a glowing grin, adjusted his obnoxiously colorful tie and straightened the collar of his jacket. He tipped his had slightly to one side, catching the flickering shine of his own luminous eyes. He inspected himself in his vanity mirror, the desktop covered in all sorts of make-up supplies, letters from fans, cards and other magic tricks. He winked, did some finger guns, smiled-- Wait--! There was one more thing he needed. He checked the vase in the vanity's corner, taking one white flower carefully from it, and nestled it gently into his lapel pocket. Fantastic. Perfect. Phenomenal.

      He was ready to go.

Arthur waited for his cue back stage as the other acts cycled through. He was used to the order by now and hardly had to think about it. They were all spectacular, really, but he was too focused on the crowd to give them much thought tonight. Certainly, they'd come, hadn't they? Anxiously, Arthur watched the sea of faces, checking everywhere for something, anything, that was familiar. He really hoped he hadn't been stood up. Wouldn't that be embarrassing? Anxiety flooded his system in a flash and he found himself straightening his tie again-- which was silly, he knew, because it was already perfect. If it was though, why did it feel so uncomfortably snug as he thought about the possibility he'd been flaked on?

He only recently found out he had a younger cousin.

It was news to him, especially being an entertainer. He was excited by the concept of getting to connect with a new family member-- and he figured the circus was a great place to meet her for the first time. It'd give him an opportunity to strut his stuff and to make a good impression. It'd also be a public space, with her family present, so it was nice and comfortable for everyone. Whether they were family or not-- for right now, they were total strangers. And that's why Arthur felt so anxious-- what was he even looking for in the crowd? He'd only seen his little cousin in pictures. Had she grown much since then? He had no idea.

But his eyes landed on a pair much like his own, and he stopped.

There, sitting in the seventh row, was a little girl with black hair and bright blue eyes. Radiant, even. They reminded him of his mother's-- surely, this was her. The more he looked the more he saw traces of the familiar pictures from the PawBook pages. Oh thank goodness. She and her folks had made it after all. What a relief! But then-- a new anxiety cropped up.

      That was his cue.

Arthur Plumage took the stage. With a flourish of his cape and a tip of his hat, Arthur's magic act began. He declared in a proud voice his name and his intention-- to dazzle the audience with a magnificent display of the most fantastic magic they'd ever seen! He went through his routine-- card tricks, making rabbits and doves appear from his hat, disappearing tricks and so much more! He pulled out all the stops, and the end of the show was where he turned his cloak into a flurry of doves that escaped the big top, out into the air. The crowd was positively glowing-- and as Arthur found his cousin in the crowd, he saw her grin and clap with wonder in her eyes-- and it was the sweetest sound he ever heard.

A week later he got a fan letter from his cousin describing how cool his magic show was. She wanted to learn how to do magic too, some day! Arthur was absolutely flattered, and made sure to write her back right away. They've been pen pals ever since! His cousin's family lives out of town, but whenever they cross paths they're sure to go to Arthur's circus act!

Arthur was trying to impress his cousin, and he definitely succeeded. When she meets new people she's sure to tell them about her magic cousin Arthur and how he's the coolest guy she knows! What a sweetheart.

"You have stolen from the gods. How do you plead?"

"Guilty."

He knew it was a futile effort to plead otherwise.

"Very well," the judge said, a faint surprise to their tone, "Then your punishment will be decided to attone for your crimes in three days time. Until that point, you will be held at,"

As the judge's spiel droned on, Appolyn's mind raced. Perhaps it was simply the paranoia, or the want for a thrill, but in his mind he already knew the punishment.

Death.

__

The bars of the cell were cold.

"...Do you have a name?"

The guard seemed startled by the question, and just barely tilted his head to look back at him. "I'm sorry?"

"Do you have a name?"

"...The answer to your question is unimportant."

"I heard from a friend that the guards here have been raised for the job since birth. I was curious if that meant you had names, Or..." He paused. "Just numbers."

The guards gaze was steady, though his fur prickled and his ears flattened, and he turned back away. "I shouldn't be talking to you, you know. It could..." He trailed off.

"I didn't have a name for much of my life," Appolyn sighed dreamily, the half-lie threatening to curl his lips up into a grin. "I named myself Appolyn after a human god. A playful little irony, you see."

The guard remained silent, facing away, though he seemed to grow more and more tense as the conversation carried on.

"If you don't tell me your name, I could always give you one."

Silence.

"What about... Orion? The brightest star in the sky."

"The brightest star in the sky is Siruis, not Orion. Orion is a constellation."

Ah. "I never had a formal education," his voice hitched, an awkward, yet genuine laugh. "I never claimed to know everything."

"Clearly."

His laughing died down as he forced his fur to lie flat. "I... I haven't had much of an exciting life. I thought if I'd stolen something as important as a star, maybe I could- Maybe people could know my name. Maybe I could...

"Maybe you could be something?" The guards voice was light and airy, almost wistful.

It seemed he had finally hit something. "Exactly. You understand, don't you? Wanting to matter? Wanting to be seen?"

The guard did not respond, though he turned his head slightly to catch his eye.

"If you let me free, we could escape together. Both of us could mean something! And maybe I could think of a better name for you?"

"...I have a name."

Oh? "...And that would be?"

The tension finally bursting, the padlock flipped open.

"Why don't I tell you once we're out of here?"

Prompt:
This time. This time I’ll get it right. Leal mentally pumped himself up. Holding his face in the mirror he smacked his cheeks a few times, blowing out a deep breath of air, then puffed out his chest. Leaving his room he kept his chest held out and a swagger in his walk, ‘natural, natural, natural’ just be natural he thought. Cool calm and collected. He kept his tempo strong as he made his way to the table in the corner of the library.

Seeing the gentle looking kal flipping the pages of a book Leal probably couldn't read, a little bit of his gusto disappeared, yet he still marched on. Walking up to the side of the kal he gently tapped on their shoulder, holding his breath as they turned to stare at him.

“May I help you?” he said in a gentle voice.
“I give you permission to be my friend”, Leal blurted out.

As soon as the words left his mouth his face went bright red. Lowering his head he could not help but think ‘not again!’. Leal has had this issue since he was a young child, he would say things in a commanding tone but never truly meant them. Due to this he has never managed to make a friend as everyone would flat out reject him due to his arrogant sounding tone. He then heard a chuckle in front of him, looking up he saw the gentle kal smiling at him.

“Very well, we can be friends”, the kal chuckled once again.
“Really!” Leal shouted, but quickly he switched notes.
“Ahem, I mean, or course we can be friends, but only because I'm allowing you.”

As these words came out he wanted to cry, slapping his mouth, he peeked at the other kals expression, only to see them laughing with tears down their face. Nodding their head they the kal tried to contain their smile.

“Yes, thank you very much for letting me be your friend” the kal spluttered through their smile.

    Gender: Male
Prompt: "You know she hates you, right?"
Hollister smiled sadly and nodded. "I'm well aware. Thank you for pointing it out, Jubilee."
The Kalon's lifelong friend gaped in disbelief, placing the glass she'd been polishing on the counter to focus more on her friend, who was currently drawing circles into the wooden surface of the bar. She leaned on her elbows, watching Hollister - or rather, examining him, as though he were some fascinating, unseen creature. Which, in a sense, he was - there weren't too many Kalons around here, and aside from that, Hollister wasn't exactly what Jubilee would call "normal" in any sense of the word. This man was truly a piece of work - and she didn't mean that to be a compliment nor insult. It's just how he was, really.

Hollister looked up at the cat and gave her a look right back - playfully, of course. He didn't mean to be of harm; he never did. It just wasn't part of his nature, to purposely want to hurt someone. "Is there a reason you're staring at me like I've grown two heads all of a sudden?" he mused teasingly, and Jubilee's cheeks puffed out as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"I'm just saying, Holly," she began softly, "I don't know why you're still trying to win that girl over. She obviously doesn't give a damn about you, about me, about this town-"
"But that can't be it," Hollister protested. "I know that she can't possibly hate something she's never even seen, that she's never even been a part of! It's impossible!"

"Hollister." He winced - Jubilee only used his full name when she was being completely serious, and he knew what was about to come his way. "Believe me when I tell you, Charlotte Robinson does not give two hoots about anything that doesn't involve money or her family. It's how her grandmother was, it's how her father was, and I guarantee you that's how she is. You're not winning her over any time soon. Her behavior's only going to get worse and worse the more you try and sugarcoat things."
    "But I'm not-"
"You are, and don't interrupt me." Jubilee glared before continuing. "The only way to get through to a woman like that is to make her life just as miserable as she's making ours. Put up a fight, damn it! You tell me you care so much about this town, but the way I see it? You're only making it that much easier for her to walk all over this town and its good people. If you want to save this town, act like it."

Hollister quieted down almost immediately after the biting words left Jubilee's lips, and for a minute, she almost felt like she was being too harsh. With a sigh, the cat went back to polishing her glasses, with the occasional glance over to Hollister's now slumped over form - just to make sure he was still doing alright. Suddenly-
"You really don't think I'm getting through to her?"
Jubilee bit back a laugh. "Holly, there's no getting through to that woman at all. Again - all she cares about is money and her family. She's self centered like that." She watched the Kalon as he mulled over these words, now drumming his fingers against the bar as he pondered.

"I guess you're right," he sighed finally, leaning back in his chair. "There... There really is no buying someone's favor if all they care about is themselves."
"Now you're making sense," Jubilee said. "What are you gonna do about it, then?"
Hollister grinned that sly grin - the one that Jubilee hates to admit that she loves so much. "In that case, my dear friend, I guess I'll just have to make her care about us."
    "Holly!"

Becky had spent many an hour gazing at Kayla, soaking in how beautiful and confident she was. Her devil-may-care attitude was so alluring. Becky wished she could be her...or perhaps...wished she could be with her. No, no. That’s a silly thought, Kayla was way out of her league, she’d never go for her. God, this was so stupid, thinking Kayla would want to become acquainted. Becky replayed her act of courage, or stupidity, in her mind.

A new science project had been assigned. Kayla, Becky, and two other kalons had been made into a group. When class was over, Becky spoke up as Kayla was leaving.
“H-hey! Um...would you like to meet up after school?” Kayla looked at her and tilted her head slightly.
“What?”
“I-...uh, would you like to meet after school? It’s just you seem really cool-...and maybe we could get to know each other?” Becky spoke awkwardly, stumbling on her words. Her confidence had practically jumped out of her body.
“Oh..sure! I walk home because it’s not that far from here, would you like to join me?” It felt like her heart had become a hamster running on a wheel at 400 miles per hour.
“Yeah, that sounds good!” Becky smiled, trying to contain her excitement.

She was so awkward and eager, she made herself cringe. Kayla probably just pitied her and was trying to be nice. School had ended almost twenty minutes ago, was she actually coming? She sank in negative her negative thoughts like a brick in water. Suddenly, a voice snapped her out of the mental quicksand she was in.
“Hey! I’m really sorry. I had work I needed to finish up.” She looked to her right, and there was Kayla, prancing over. Becky grinned, some of her anxiety melting away, and let out a light laugh.
“It’s alright.”

    Name: Perry
    Gender: male
    Prompt:

Ah, the wonderful world of love~
Everyone is either too shy to dip their toes in the water or wants to dive headfirst into a brand new and beautiful relationship with whom they hope to be their soulmate.

For Perry, he knew exactly who his forever love was, despite never having met her before.
You see, Perry fell in love with the sweet sound of a pop singer's voice, and that very pop singer was Ayako.
He hadn't known what she looked like through her early career, as she had hidden her face with a mask during live performances, and never fully featured herself in most music videos she did, but once she revealed her identity did Perry believe it was destiny.

There's no doubt that Ayako is pretty, but because of Perry's naive and romantically hopeful heart he thought she was more beautiful than how Greek goddesses have been described as being.
He just had to meet her, but didn't know how to begin to cut through all that red tape that separated him from her.

It took him all of a month to realize that "duh, I'm in the fashion business, I can meet her at the upcoming show", but Perry didn't realize that the show was just a three days away, and that he couldn't just drive to the show, but had to fly there.
If you ever thought that you packed a bag faster than your mom coming to tell you that "it's time to go!" for your trip to grandma's for the weekend, you were wrong.
Perry moved faster than light, having grabbed an armful of clothes and other necessities and literally yeeted them across the room and into his suitcase.
Just the sheer force of the stuff landing in the suitcase caused it to close itself, or perhaps it was the ghost residing in the suitcase saying "ow!" For being slapped by Perry's clothing.

Just like that he was out of his house, suitcase in hand, and drove to the airport and took three flights just to get to where he was going, because the other airports didn't have any flights for his destination.

You're probably thinking "man, this guy is desperate!", no, no he is not.
Perry just believed at the time that there was only one soulmate for each person and truly thought Ayako was his.
Moving on.

As a part-time model and fashion designer, you'd think he would have dressed for the occasion, but when one's head is filled with butterflies and rainbows, one cannot distinguish a matching suit from green plaid shorts and a reptar sleep shirt.
Yes, Perry waltzed right into a room fully of high profile people wearing just as I stated.
The only nice thing he wore was his black trench coat.

He didn't care nor realize his mistake, and wouldn't until it was mentioned to him.
And there she was, miss Ayako, the most beautiful voice to have reached his eardrums.
As he walked up to her she glance his way before doing a double take, and finishing with a a shock filled stare.

"Hello, my name is Perry, I am a huge fan of your music"
"Uh... yes, it's nice to meet you too".
And then he just stood there like an idiot.

He didn't even know what to say to her or what he would say if given the chance.
Here he flew for hours, and hadn't a word to say, but she did, and it was the only thing he needed to hear.

"By any chance do you happen to sing? We are short a singer for the party, and need someone to go on after me".
Without a second thought, and any for that matter he said "yes, I sing. I'd love to preform for you"

You might also be wondering "what's next? He's either got to be really good at singing and wins her over, or he can't sing at all and is gonna make her dislike him".
Well, seeing as this all has the essence of a comedy, we might just have something in the middle between those thoughts of yours.

Perry was beside himself, he was so happy getting to hear her sing in person.
Her voice to his mind was like listening to angels, but also that happy feeling you get from eating marshmallows.

Then the stage was empty, it was his turn to preform in front of all these people and colleagues, but all he cared about was preforming for Ayako.
With both hands he grasped the microphone like it was karaoke night, and began singing the last song he had listened to... "I Need a Hero".
And yes, just as you guessed he cannot sing.
He cracked at every high note and was pitchy throughout the song.
If Perry was in his right mind he would have remembered that he cannot sing to save his life or anyone's for that matter.

It was sad and painful watching him, it was literally like taking your buddy whom was just dumped to sing karaoke, and you just sit there as they cry through every lyric as they press on with the song, accept everyone in that room is like your crying buddy.

After his performance he met with Ayako, and what he thought was butterflies in his stomach was the lack of nutrients from having missed lunch, and what he thought was a racing heartbeat of love was actually his body trying to regain it's strength after singing.

Ayako took him aside and told him "you didn't tell me you were 'that' good, hehe... well, it was nice meeting you and I love your pajamas".
As she walked away everything hit him like a bus full of bricks.
How he was dressed, what he just did, and how his first and probably only meeting with Ayako went.

He ran out of that building faster than an angry chicken.
Later on he somewhat has gotten over the embarrassing event.
