Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Ophelia grew up alongside a colt named Hugo and as they matured they became bonded; absolutely inseperable and madly in love. The pair belonged to a government-protected herd roaming the Yukon. They were one of the few remaining truely wild herds in the region. Unfortunately the herd had to be captured due to a serious incoming winter storm; if they were not captured the entire herd would have perished.
The day of their capture was forebodingly quiet; the pale sun rays lit up the evergreen forest. There, Hugo and Ophelia spent their final moments together. He decorated her with pine cones and needles: they were resilient, thriving through even the toughest winters, just like Ophelia had been. She was his pillar of strength, as he was for her.
They were separated that day, sold to different buyers, but their bond was never broken. Every spring, Ophelia ordanes herself with the most beautiful flowers she can find in memory of Hugo, with the hope that one day they will be reunited.

Astereae absolutely loves flowers! Every spring when the snow is finally gone, Astereae LOVES going out on the trails around the stable to look at all the early blooming flowers.

She's learned over the years from her owner that some of the flowers are actually edible. After watching her owner pick said flowers, she has begun to remember which flowers she can eat, and where to find them. Her favorite snack out on the trail is the purple dead nettle! She loves the purple flowers, and the delightful taste is has!

She has also learned that some flowers should definitely not be eaten, and some just taste terrible! These flowers also tend to be the most beautiful to her, so she likes to pluck the delicate flower heads off the stems and lightly place them in her mane and tail!

One day, she came back to the stable after one of her daily trips out to the trail covered in flowers. Her owner took one look at her and started to giggle. She decided that early the next day, she would go out and collect flowers to make Astereae something special. When Astereae came back from her trip, she found a cute little ring of flowers hanging on her stall. She was incredibly pleased and happily slipped it over her ears. She pranced around the stable aisle, showing off her new accessory to all the other horses.

The next day, she came back from her trip and found another ring of flowers hanging on her stall. She decided this one would go at the base of her tail. The day after, she again found a ring of flowers hanging on her stall door. She didn't know where she could put this one. It was much too large to wear around her legs, but much too small to fit over her head on her neck... She decided it would be best to just leave it on her stall door so every morning she could wake up to a beautiful sight of flowers. Her owner loved to see how happy all of the flowers had made her, so she continued making various things out of flowers for the mare and leaving them in random places around the stable.
