From inside the queen's den, he heard his mother sigh. "Can't you just get it yourself? Some of us are trying to nap."
Haziel sneered. "I tried!"
Once again, he rose up on his hind legs and searched purchase on the stony wall with his front paws, stretching his neck as long as he could, snapping his jaws in vain at the mouse tail that was hanging off the legde a few hair's breadths beyond him, mocking him.
Huffing, he sat back down and stared at the offending stone with rage in his eyes. "It's too high, mom," he mewed miserably.
"All right, all right," his mother meowed from the den and he heard her shift, then yawn. "I'll get it for you in a second. Just let me finish my nap first, okay? Until I wake up, why don't you try a bit harder yourself? Maybe all that streching will make you a bit taller eventually."
Haziel opened his mouth to protest, then snapped it back shut in frustration. He sat there seething for a moment, before, with a sigh, rising up to his hind legs again, straining to reach just a bit higher this time.
