a bright bolt clashed against the sky’s darkness, flashing through even the drawn curtain, making her start. immediately, her hand began to shake, and within moments, she felt the thunder rumbling through the desk, right up her toes and crowning her head in a cold-sweat shiver. her mouth hung agape for that silent instant, and her eyes pressed shut, she broke the sound barrier - but there was no need to shout. a hand graced her back, and eyelids fluttered as she leaned into her mother’s arms. a college kid now, but this was still the best place to be.
