I can't believe we're halfway to #100!!
As a treat, we're releasing a new (and first!) Breed Exclusive marking. Meet the 'Himalayan' marking!
The "Himalayan" marking causes the Eumelanin (B Locus) to appear on the "points" of the setter (the feet, ears, nose, and tail). The rest of the body will be the Phaeomelanin.
(Inspired by the Siamese Dachshund)
For this competition, give us some ideas for some breed exclusive markings!! You can suggest a maximum of two ideas.
You must provide at least one image, and suggest which locus it would appear on!Feel free to discuss the gene, and suggest/describe things about it!
You must have a kennel thread and have it updated in the archive, or not already have a setter to be able to adopt!
Ends 28th of Jan, rollover

Gene: Locus U or T
Can be a mutation that is required to act similar to harlequin Merle! I think maybe the name ‘King’ would be a cool name for the mutation/gene but it could also be called ‘Felidae’ as that’s the family king cheetahs come from!
Locus K
This one could be considered like an atypical brindle since the stripes are going horizontally instead of vertically. Or it could also work minimal. Will come back when I can think of some fun names!

Gene: 1.
Panda (A locus) ap - This would add panda markings across the body, as seen
here. The hind legs would have some variation, with some markings extending up almost to the back, as seen in the first picture, or just covering the
entire leg. Because of its placement on the A locus, this would allow for some very colorful "panda" setters, for example: liver and cream, blue and offwhite, etc.
2.
Dutch white (S locus) sd - Would be similar to Irish white, but the white would extend to go past the elbows and would have small white "socks" on the hind legs as seen in the
Dutch rabbit.
Example 2. They also typically don't have white tips on their tails

Gene:Based of the Malayan Civet, Could call it Malayan, or civet! Probably on the K locus as a modified kind of brindle

Based of the marbled pole cat, could call it marbled or Vormela (the monotypic genus marbled polecats belong to) I would probably put it on the S locus as a kind of funky piebald! I'm specifically talking about the white stripes on the cats.

Gene: Python merle and python harlequin! Located on the M locus, the gene would cause a merle effect similar to that of a
ball python! When combined with harlequin, it looks similar to the pattern of an
albino ball python! (Images linked in case a viewer doesn't like seeing snakes <3)

Gene:Tear Marks;; a fairly common marking on the A or E locus, tear marks add a striking look to a Cohors Setter's face. The marking is characterized by a coloured ring around the eye and trademark "eyebrow" spot, which is always present (as shown by the arrow). The marking "drips" down the face, with its maximum reaching the back of the lip and approximately halfway down the snout (highlighted in green), and its minimum looking more like classic big cat markings (highlighted in red). The marking is generally a darker shade of the base coat, with the extremity of how much darker it is varying widely. Some dogs have rather faded tear marks, while others (like in the example) have drastically darker tear marks. This marking appears in all base coat colours, and does not seem to be dramatically affected by any other genes.

Alarm Tail;; found on the K and S locus, this gene has faded in and out of popularity as the breed's focus shifted between working dog and show dog. This trait is greatly desired in retrieving dogs, allowing them to be easily seen in the wilderness. The gene is characterized by a white tail tip and at least one white stripe. Size and number of the stripes varies from dog to dog. The widest acceptable stripe is highlighted in green, while the narrowest is highlighted in red. The stripes are always white, with any other colour not accepted in the breed standard. This is because white stripes are easiest to see across long distances. The gene can express itself on any base coat colour, though dogs with darker base coats are generally more desirable. It does not seem to be drastically affected by other genes, and can in fact by hidden by other white markings. Many a breeder has been surprised by two mostly white dogs producing alarm tail pups!
