Initially bought for both guarding and simple family pet, the family that previously owned them realized they were a bit too eager to protect the family.. from anything. With promise of some training to make things better, we took them into the shelter to find them a new home to suit their needs.

Banshee heard the front door open, her head bolting upwards. Banshee prepared to sprint when she heard her owner's voice, calming down a bit. She peeked out the doorway, seeing her owner Christopher. The canine's eyes landed on a larger man standing behind Chris, the two chatting away. Banshee growled, taking a step forward. "Shh Banshee, he's safe," Chris tried to reassure the dog but she wasn't listening. When the man didn't make a move to leave she leaped forward. He yelped when the dog jumped up at him, hearing the clash of her teeth as she narrowly missed his face. Banshee yelped when Chris pulled her away by her harness, reprimanding her. She looked at the ground in shame, what had she done wrong? She was just doing her job and protecting him from the unknown man. "*sigh* sorry Luke, I forgot how overprotective Banshee is," Chris apologized to this Luke, who just shook his head and laughed a bit. "She's just doing her job, protecting you. I work with snappy dogs so this ain't the first time I've been lunged at," Luke said, patting Banshee's head lightly. She looked up at him curiously, maybe he wasn't so bad...

Prompt - When Gallagher sees someone diverse to his normal 'pets', first of all he would get all of his toys and make almost a trap, to put the possible baddy off guard and take his owners away. Of course this is always a misunderstanding, no actual baddy has come to put Gallagher's protection to the test. While at the shelter, he still did that with the toys his previous owners had gifted to him, and this time he managed to get an unwanted criminal out of the shelter. He was given a special badge for his protection for other beings. At that moment he was granted the role of a proper guard dog. His previous owners felt ashamed that they hadn't noticed his work when they owned him.

"Move!" the akita barked as he barreled towards the door. He pushed his human out of the way, then glared up at the strange contraption known as a handle. Much to his irritation, Bastion lacked the fingers to use it.

From the windowsill, a silky voice spoke, "No need to panic, little mutt. Our master knows not to bother with strangers."

"You're not much larger than me, kitten," Bastion reminded.

One hand reached for the door knob, escaping their attention while they argued. Bastion noticed it first—the strange, clean scent. Smelled like willow, somewhat appetizing.

Like the good pup he was, he sat down on his haunches in front of the stranger, eagerly sniffing the offered hand.

Then—

"Hey!" Bastion barked. "You said that our human knew better than to—" but when he scanned the room, he only saw a striped tail disappear around the corner of the hall. "Alexi!" he called, aggravated.

The humans were laughing, he noticed, and his master's hand settled somewhere on his back. "Say 'hello' to Zelkon, Bastion," his master commanded.

He peered up curiously at the newcomer and begrudgingly stuck his paw out with an amiable-sounding woof. Fine, then. Catch the cat later.

I could hear the tempting footsteps approaching the pale blue door, but I stayed in my bed. The stranger approached the door and the knock was startling. I immediately jumped up but I tried to stay in my bed. My owner opened the door and the stranger stepped in with a wide smile. My smile broke out, but it quickly turned into a growl as I couldn't resist the urge to bark. When I did, the bock the stranger was carrying shook, stunned at the power of my bark I sat down. The stranger set the box on the table and left. I barked again to see if I could still shake the box, but the box moved less this time. My owner motioned for me to be quiet and come to them. They opened the box and out jumped a cat. It ran and hid behind my bed as I growled and barked, I realized then that I wasn't shaking the box, it was the cat that was shaking it. I picked up the cat and brought it to my owner, but they just laughed at me, maybe I didn't need to defend my owner from this. [198 Words]
