Gold eyes glinted as they appraised her, weighing her words. Calculating.

She waited, swallowing hard. She refused to be cowed. Never. She’d set everything on the line for this meeting. There was no turning back.

“I’ll consider your proposal.” His acceptance shattered the silence. The tom nodded, stepping aside. He paused, “If they do accept, I’ll need a name.”

Of course.

The question was which one. She had too many. The result of a daughter of two worlds. One of light and another of darkness.

Her father was King, her mother a commoner. She’d been a mistake ~ unexpected, and caught between two worlds. The shadows of ruthless diplomacies and the sunshine of carefree bliss. Her parents could never agree on a name. Her father called her Freya ~ a goddess of war, to aid his ambition. Her mother had insisted on Gwen, a beacon of light. For years, she’d played both. Angelic daughter by day and a wraith, a spy for the king, by night.

It was over. She was done playing, done pretending. She was not of the shadows, nor of light. She was both, a blend of Gwen and Freya.

A flame.

it had slipped far beyond their memories, when a little girl had gone missing, without a trace. just, a wisp of pale fur.
svenja was her name, meaning lady of the swans. but, no one cared, no one listened when she called for her mother and didn’t pay attention when she wandered into the woods.

they thought she was dead.
but, little did they know, she wasn’t.
