Route One of the Hawthorn Hooves Stable Event
Just as the trees seem like they can get no thicker and the woods themselves seem to be as black as night around you, when the hours have passed and things look dim, the group comes across a clearing. Inside, watching the group of rescuers emerge from the woods, are several horses.

The search and rescue group is absolutely thrilled, but then the questions arise - what happens to them now?

This is a Route One horse! Remember you must first enter in the Route One prompt before you enter for any horses listed as route one. You may only win two horses per route, excluding the horses listed as "Special," of which you may only win one total.

When the trailer crashed, the first thing Xanthippe did was run. She didn't stop to think about the other horses, she saw the opportunity to get out of the trailer and bolted. She ran through the woods at full speed until her adrenaline began to wear off.

Once the adrenaline wore off, she realized that some of the other horses she was with could need help. She turned back and made her way back to the trailer. She looked around for the other horses, finding many of them huddled together on the side of the road, but she knew that a few were still missing. She heard a slight whinny from nearby and started looking for the source. The closer she got to the trailer, the louder the whinny got. She poked her head into the wreck and saw an older mare still trapped inside. She looked at the mare with reassurance and ran toward the group of horses huddled off to the side. Frantically, she started calling out to the group, trying to get them to follow her. Once they realized she needed her help, they all followed quickly behind her.

They got back to the trailer and the rest of the horses realized what was going on. Xanthippe started pushing on the trailer with her shoulder, trying to find a way to get the older mare out. Some of the other horses that were watching her noticed what she was doing and came to help. Eventually, all the horses came over and pushed on the trailer with Xanthippe.

After a few minutes of pushing from both sides, the opening in the trailer got bigger. The older mare nervously, but quickly, made her way out of the trailer and joined the rest of the horses.

Competition: Asteri was in shock in the beginning. Before the crash she was conversing with a friend as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Then she felt the trailer swing and knew that wasn't normal; the smell of burnt rubber and the sound of metal being compressed hit her violently. Before she knew it bright rays of sunlight filled the trailer and horses began panicking to get out.

She hadn't been able to process the accident until she was standing outside the trailer. Her adrenaline had numbed the pain of a gash she received by a loose piece of metal on the side of the trailer that she was shoved into when trying to jump out of the trailer with the others. Immediately Asteri rushed to her friends aid to make sure they were all okay and in one piece. She saw some were cut up but for the most part everyone wasn't terribly injured.

Asteri took it into her own hands to round everyone up and calm them down. She understood that there was confusion and fear going around but she knew if her and the rest of the horses wanted to be found it would be best to find some sort of shelter in the nearby woods and stay close to the site so they would be found.

“Silence”
The sound that followed such a life altering experience. Trying to gather her thoughts and vision; Cher lifted her head and looked around. Smoke and debris still somewhat in the air. There were a few horses she noticed not in the trailer. She hoped the ones she calls friends were safe and uninjured.

And then it came ...
“CRASH”

Another major jolt engulfed the trailer Cher laid in. The force of it shook and rattled the entire trailer. One of the other trailers had crashed into hers. Further more damaging what was left of it.

“Run.”
That’s all the mare could think of. Instincts of generations before the mare flooded her thoughts. With somewhat of a balance underneath her and whatever little strength she had left. Cher lifted herself from the trailer floor and took off out the crumbled door.

Taking off like her life depended on it. She ran straight to the woods, chasing the disappearing sound of hooves. After what seemed like several lifetimes passing she was finally able to catch up to the rest of the horses. Coming into a clearing she was finally able to take a deep breath and refocus.

Of course, Darcy hadn't been expecting for their trailer to crash. She was satisfied with dozing while they drove along, soothed by the rumble of tires on asphalt.
Then suddenly she was on her side, the trailer still standing but heavily dented. The first thing she did was worry. Worry for the other horses in the other trailers. She whinnied, looking back towards the other mare she was trailering with, desperately hoping her and her foal were safe. A relieved huff escaped as she saw the mare, starting to get up on shaky legs with her foal. Darcy hefted herself to her hooves, shivering as a freezing cold breeze blew in through the open doors. She nickered softly, walking slowly towards the entrance and stepping down onto the icy asphalt. Thank goodness her trailer mates were behind her, the older mare keeping her foal close to her side.
Darcy quickly spotted another trailer, tilting dangerously on its side. And rushed towards it, careful to keep her footing on the icy road. Coming around the end of the trailer and dodging the open and swinging door. She whinnied to get the horses attention, trying to warn them and get them out of the trailer. Who knows when it was going to tip, they needed to get out of there. And fast. She got her front hooves in the trailer, nudging some of the other mares onto their feet and out the door. Huffing as the last climbed out, ushering them away from the twisted metal. And not a moment too soon- the trailer crashed fully onto its side, causing a horrendous noise and spooking the horses surrounding it. They took off as a group towards the forest, desperate to get to safety. (291 words)

Competition: Jess was actually in a crash before, though she was a very young foal and had no idea what was happening, if it had not been for the actions of her mother, she likely would have been trapped in the trailer much longer than she was.

Recalling her mother's bravery, Jess stood up, having lost her balance from the wreck.

She gave a hearty shake, silently checking to make sure nothing was injured before holding her head up high, she looked at the other horses in the trailer with her, giving them a silent 'stand back' before she made a beeline to the door, kicking it as hard as she could with her powerful hooves.

It didn't take long for her kicks to blow the door open, she wasn't about to be trapped in that trailer like she was as a filly.

She nickered, telling the others to come on if they were okay, and if not, to stay put, she would be back with help.

Luckily her comrades weren't injured badly and were able to follow her into the darkness, she may not know where she was going, but darn it, she was going.

It didn't take Jess long to find the clearing, to catch up with a mare she had met once or twice before that had escaped another trailer that had suffered the same fate.

She turned back to look at her comrades with a sense of pride in knowing that she had led them to a safe place, there, they would wait for someone to rescue them, far better than being cramped up in that trailer.

It didn't take long for someone to find them all, to round each thoroughbred up and lead them back to safety.

Jess thought back on her mother's actions, her bravery and her strength, looking up at the sky she felt a sense of pride in how she reacted.

Her mother will be proud when she hears about this.
