Staff Litter Lion #1

Postby snapshot » Fri Aug 14, 2020 12:02 pm

To adopt this lion, you must either:
1. Have a founder, be at least level 1, and have enough space to accommodate this lion
2. Or, you can adopt this one as your founder!

Happy birthday VOK! This lady loves to dance. To win her:

    1. Find me her favorite song to dance to.

And mix and match any of the following prompts. You may have up to 1500 words. You do NOT have to complete all the prompts, and you do not have to use the full word count. I wanted to give folks flexibility and options so they can maximize their own creativity. c:

    1. What does she like best about dancing?/Why does she love dancing?
    2. How did she learn to dance?
    3. Where does she go to dance? Does she dance in public, or is it a secret of hers?
    4. What is the importance of her favorite song?
    5. Chose your own dance-related prompt.

Ends September 10th 23:59 pm CS time.

Lion name: Saltant
Lion gender: Female
Pride: PoIR
Pride status: Entertainer
Prompt:
Song: How To Be A Heartbreaker
1. Saltant loves dancing. It's been her passion since she was a young cub. She joined the pride, as did many others, before it was truly a pride, when Ignis still wandered. She had been kicked out of her birth pride for refusing to hunt, instead desiring to dance and sing to help the pride keep up it's spirits. She's seen how happy it makes other when they watch her dance and she wants to make everyone that happy. But her pride refused to let her dance instead of "supporting the pride" and she refused to give up dancing.
2. Saltant learned to dance as a cub. She'd had difficulty walking, long after cubs usually did. She taught herself small tricks to be able to walk, like adding a sway when she was leaning too far one direction or a jump or skip when she couldn't make her legs move correctly. After a while, she was able to walk normally but she loved the movement and motion of her special walk too much to give it up. She honed her skill and added new steps and called it "dancing".
3. Saltant dances everywhere she can. She isn't afraid to let others see her and actually prefers to dance when others are around rather than by herself. She'll dance anywhere, anytime, making music out of the natural sounds of the world and flowing through her improvised steps as though she was one with the earth's orchestra.
4. Despite desiring to make everyone happy, hidden in her heart there is a bitterness. In her birth pride, there had been a lion she'd intended to make her mate, but he rejected her when she refused to fit into the mold. She loves everyone and wants to make them happy but when they get too close, she cuts herself off from them. She's terrified of having her heart broken again.
5. When Saltant first joined the group that later became the Pride of Intertwining Roots, many lions disapproved of her choice to be a dancer. She was scared of being rejected by them, as with her birth pride, and stifled her talent, learning to hunt with the other lionesses and only dancing when there was time to spare. However, the ever observant Ignis noticed how dull and sad she was while hunting and working and how bright and exhilarated she was while dancing. He took her to the side and asked her why she did not dance more often, why she forced herself into other's expectations. When she revealed her insecurities, Ignis assured her that no matter what the other lion's thought, he was in charge here and he would never send her away for wanting to break the norm to follow her passion. After all, he was only on this journey because he refused to follow tradition when it went against his heart.

Lion name: Blanchefleur
Lion gender: Female
Pride: Red Eagle
Pride status: Ovate
Prompt:
[995 words]
Favourite Song: Téir Abhaile Riú
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Blanchefleur was born with little green buds raised along the top of her body and down her tail. Her parents initially were worried for her; they had no idea what the weird green growths were or if they were dangerous at all, until a lion with medicinal prowess explained that they were buds of growing plants that seemed embedded in her pelt.

As she grew, Blanche gained a love of dancing; she had grown up watching other lions having fun dancing to her favourite song and though normally she would do a little swaying and tapping herself; she never fully participated to the extent that others would. Though, one day she decided to join in the dance properly - throwing herself into the dance as best she could.

It was then that her abilities were discovered. The more and harder she danced, the more and the thicker her buds grew; once green and fresh, a metaphor for her youth, now growing into a dense blanket of roses upon her back, vines and leaves joining in the more she danced until she was weighed down by the greenery.

Those around her were scared and confused at such a sight as a cub getting swallowed by a rosebush, but Blanche laughed away at what had occurred, filled with joy at the dance she had joined.
Turned out, Blanchefleur had aggravated the buds to grow as she danced; the longer and more meaningfully she danced, the more the buds grew.

"Some sort of control over nature," her parents were told that day, "magick of some sort - she doesn't have full control-" that was true, Blanche laid on the floor of her den unable to will the flowers to die down a little, "-but it causes her no pain, it's a part of her."

From then on, more so than she was before, her parents mollycoddled her, preventing her from going more than 10 feet from their den. She was disallowed to join in training with the other cubs when they got of age, reduced to lying down all day and straining to hear the nightly music and thumping of dancing paws through the ground where her head lay.

Blanche got restless legs at night. She longed to leave, to sing out loudly and let herself dance every worry away. She understood her parents worry to a degree, and she appreciated their care, but she had to get out. She was of an age that she would be training for a specific role in the pride, so therefore she was of an age to go out on her own. Well... that was her logic.

Laying a goodbye letter down by her parents' sleeping forms, she cautiously plucked a blooming-bud from her back and placed it down beside them. They would hopefully understand, she couldn't be locked up anymore, she needed to go out and learn and see things she had never seen before.

Cool dirt graced her paws as she padded out of the den, the moonlight reflected on her fur and created an almost pearlescent sheen. Once she reached the edge of her pride's camp, an almost feral feeling took ahold of her.

Blanche danced her way through the trees, the song of the owls a rhythm for her paws and her tail swaying. Her flowers bloomed and thrived under the stars, enveloping the lioness as she jived.

As the night passed into morning, Blanche had slept in her own blanket of petals and thorns. Much akin to a cub struggling to get out of bed, she felt way too comfortable in her overgrown nest - it was a struggle to push herself up and climb out of the flora.

Every limb ached, but in a good way, in a 'I just ran to the moon and back' kind of way. But now she had no idea where she wanted to go. The whole world was out there ready for her, but she hadn't the faintest idea what do do with it.
Though it seemed, her first decision was made for her, when a faint squeaking tickled her ears.

Deeper into the forest where she had retired, Blanche discovered a small chestnut creature with long pointed ears and a thin bushy tail curled up by a tree, shaking. Looking further; it's hind legs were injured.
"Must've had quite the fall, huh?" She asked softly, creeping closer to it. "Poor thing, I wish I could help in some way. I've never seen something like you before."

The little creature watched the lioness with half-lidded eyes, un-moving other than the vibrations wracking it's tiny body.
"Have you ever heard of dancing?" It's ears seemed to perk up, so with excited eyes Blanche continued "It's my absolute favourite thing to do. I can show you if you would like?" Maybe she could gift this animal with the gift of dance in it's pain filled last days.

Starting off slow, she began to hum the jolly tune of her favourite jig and step her paws in a careful circle; as the tune gained in pace, her twirling and and jumping increased, gracefully moving like snow in the wind. The creature gazed in awe as the roses bloomed and scattered petals around her in a flurry, and then squeaked in surprise as a tingling sensation spread across it's legs.

Blanche stopped in her tracks; eyes wide, she watched the little furry beast stretch out its' feet and slowly stand.

"Did... did I just do that?" Her voice was airy, breathing out as she spoke in shock. The woodland creature looked down at itself and then back up at her, nodding.
"Wow," she plopped down onto her haunches and exhaled shakily, "I guess that's what my 'magick' does then. I've never seen that happen before, so I can just dance and it heals things? Well - I'm glad that's what I can do. Growing roses is nice and all, but helping people - that's a dream come true."

Lion name: Amaryllis
Lion gender: Female
Link to Pride: The Ushirikiano Pride
Pride Status: Nature Mage/Gardener
Prompt:
Song: Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity - Gustav Holst
Amaryllis loves dancing because of how freeing it can be. You can just lose yourself in the music and let go of reality for a bit. It's an excellent way to escape from the real world and all of its responsibilities. And if done correctly, it can be a way to show others how you feel. Amaryllis dances whenever she feels like she's going to explode from the emotions building up inside her. It's the only way she can properly convey her feelings.

She doesn't really remember how she learned to dance, she's been doing it all her life. She used to dance along to the lullabies her parents sang to her to get her to fall asleep, much to their annoyance. She's always been a dancer, she's just refined her techniques over the years so she stays safe and doesn't accidentally hurt herself.

Amaryllis will dance anywhere! She doesn't care what the others think of her, she's having a good time and that's all that matters to her. When she wants to practice, however, she ventures off to the Ancient Ruins. It's not a secret place, by any means, bust she feels like there's more privacy. And if she's rehearsing for something, she'll make a plant ball around herself, trapping her in her own secret bubble. Helios would be the only one who could get in, since he can simply burn the plants away. But he doesn't like intruding on other's privacy, especially when they've made it clear that they don't want anyone around.

Jupiter is her favorite song because it reminds her of herself.

A light, airy track that also has hints of mischief and pride? It's perfect for her! It's also fairly easy to dance to, since she often has trouble following along with songs that have lyrics in them. Everything's moving too fast and she can't really keep up. Her favorite part of the song is right in the middle, when everything sort of calms itself down. Not only does it sound gorgeous, but it's very easy to follow. She's still working on her dance routine for it, since she wants it to be perfect, but it's coming along nicely.

Lion name: Tanisha
Lion gender: Female
Pride: Mystic Isles
Pride status: Musician
Prompt: Song: Radioactive - Lindsey Sterling and Pentatonix (Imagine dragons cover)

Image

For Tanisha there was nothing better than a good story. They were something so powerful they were almost otherworldly. It wasn't just the words, it was the feelings, the atmosphere, the imagery so strong that for a moment you felt like you were there.

Running through a magical forest looking for lost treasure.

Heart clenching in despair and grief as everything you cared for was lost.

Relief when, in the end everything turned out alright.

The revenge, the lies, deceit, truth, life, death all woven together, parts of the great tapestry of life.

It was addictive, both hearing the stories, but also passing them on. It was this shared joy that gave rise to a wandering pride, one that enraptured any they met. They were said to be the greatest story tellers of all time.

It was a huge standard for Tanisha to live up to, she had been born in the pride. It was her dream to join them properly, to work alongside her parents and pride mates rather than depending on them.

There was one problem.

Tanisha hadn't found a Medium.

Having a medium was nessary in her pride. They were the unique methods in which they set the scene for their stories.
Each member of her pride had a unique way of showing and expressing their tales.

While one lion sculpted figures from liquid earth, blasting them into pottery another lion might talk through flicking flames, another drew sweeping arcs with dark ink across light bark, her mate spinning orbs of water through the air. Magic was a favoured medium for many, but there were also the no less interesting lions who could pull others in with nothing other than words.

But while it was incredible, none of it called to Tanisha’s own stories. She tried so many things, desperate to join in but nothing felt right. Using her paws to explain sometimes helped but it didn't feel like Enough. It was good, but not good enough.

Until one day, as she washed down in a cool river, she heard something.

It was fine and reedy and yet powerful. A voice sang along, masculine though the words couldn't be heard from the distance. Music. It was the one medium her group didn't have much access to, this music in the distance was far more expressive than the warbling her brother said was his medium, or the bass-like drum that set the pace when the troop moved. It was the humming of voices, and an instrument that was sung in such a different way to the drum that Tanisha wondered how the sounds they created could both be called music.

Tanisha ran, skipping as she felt her spirits being lifted by the music, by the sounds before crashing down once more. As she felt the emotions she reacted with her body, skipping before slinking forward. She soon came across the pair creating the incredible music, who stopped as they saw her.

“No, please keep going.” She gasped, panting. She had never felt this involved with expressing the emotions and things inside her. The lioness with the instrument went to resume but the lion, the one who had sung held out a paw, with a soft confused look on his face.

“Were you attempting to dance while running?” He asked, head tilted, a strange expression on his blue face.

“What's dancing?” Tanisha asked cautiously back. She had heard of flames dancing but wasn't that just movement? Of course Tanisha had been moving while running, pretty hard not to. The instrument screeched to a stop.

“What's dancing?! You don't know?” The two gasped and exclaimed. Tanisha felt herself blush under her pale fur. As the two explained it felt like Tanisha had missed a huge art form, one so different to the others her pride used. It was expression through the body's movement and Tanisha knew she had to try it. She had always felt the urge to move and sway with music, but now it appeared there were names for such feelings, and a lion who could help her put them into action. His name was Uro, and Tanisha could hardly stay still in her excitement.

It appeared she had found a medium.

(Random mix of 1 + 2 sort of (It went off track))

Image

Dancing was a lot harder than Tanisha had originally thought. Timing, coordination and being aware of where her paws were at all times all played such huge roles. Repeating the same few movements over and over again, trying to make it so each feeling in her story could be properly expressed. She loved expressing joy the most, but to move into sadness, to watch her mentor, Uro, face fall with her own body language was its own reward as well, to see how her actions convey emotion to others. It was something she had always wanted for herself, the ability to act through a medium and tell stories.

The more she learnt, the more she loved dancing. None of the other mediums had ever felt like this for her. She felt in control of her audience and for the first time she felt truly in control of herself. She found herself holding her head higher, a spring in her step. She danced as she did her chores, as she ate and drank, and sometimes even as she slept.

She had no clue how she had ever held back, how she had survived without the music and dance in her body.

Not that it was always perfect though. Her mentor could be strict, or a dancing partner could become clumsy. Tanisha could get tired, begging not to spin on a hind paw just one more time.

It didn't help that her back had started hurting, Uro claiming it was just standing on her back paws making it sore. It would make sense, but Tamisha had a feeling it was more than that. It was strange how it flared with her most expressive movements, irrelevant of whether they balanced on two paws or four.

Dancing was hard, but when she got it right, it was as if everything lit up with joy. She felt so proud of herself, every movement mastered. When she could finally perform, everything would be worth it. Uro, and her family, her friends, would all be so proud.
(2)

Image

Tanisha was nervous. She felt vaguely queasy, her stomach hurting as if warning her against this. What if she wasn't ready yet? What if she made a mistake? She might stumble, or forget what she was doing.

What if they just didn't like the story she expressed?
Her friends, the ones who had first played true music for her were waiting. It was time. She would just have to go through with this-

No.

This was her Medium. This was what she had spent countless hours on. This was what she was working for and this was what would make her family proud. This was all her success and discovery wrapped up into one song.

She wasn't going to dance. She was going to perform

And with that thought she stepped onto the open air stage.

The music started, building up and Tanisha fell into place. She rose, along with the violin, cautious and yet optimistic sounding. Small movements changing as she started moving across the stage. It was mellow enough and she had a moment to glance at her pride mates faces.

Smiles and pleasant encouragement. They hadn't seen anything yet,

Iah started to sing, and from there the song progressed, challenging and powerful, Tanisha's movements becoming more fluid and graceful. She dove and span, watching as her father's face went from happiness to outright pride. Of her.

The bridge was fast approaching and Tanisha struggled to keep herself steady, to keep moving and going at the right speed. This was a three lion performance and she wasn't going to let them down. Her back burned as she got more spirited, lifted off her front feet and leapt up as the violin rose up in challenge.

There was a feeling of release, gasps and pride members standing in a sign of silent applause. A pause for a moment as Loveita missed a note. Had something gone wrong? Tanisha turned to where the audience were looking, only to realise she was the center of attention.

Her back was flourishing with flowers. Brilliant red blooms interspersed with gold ones. She had always had similarly coloured splotches, but never had she realised what she had been holding back. The flowers trembled, as if with her own confusion and surprise.

She grinned, and the flowers sprung back into full bloom with her emotions. It was incredible and breathtaking, and with a nod to her fellow musicians she stood with her back to the audience and shook all over, celebrating the end of the song with flower petals of her own making.

Celebrating her new found confidence and desire to take the world head on.

Welcome to the new age.

Lion name: Muireann
Lion gender: Female
Pride: Isle of Roses
Pride status: Dancer
Prompt:
Muireann has always loved to dance. It's in her blood, her entire family following the tradition of dancing for others. There's just one problem.

She's absolutely terrified of dancing publicly.

That's not quite true. Muireann is terrified of others knowing she's the one dancing. She feels like there are a lot of expectations put on her, and although she enjoys dancing and is by no means bad, she does not possess the same talent that her parents do. If anyone were to connect the dots, they would no doubt put her on a high pedestal that she couldn't help but crash down off of. The only reason she has escaped that so far is because she has moved away from her family, hoping the distance will keep anyone from connecting the pieces, provided she doesn't dance or slip up and mention her family's history.

However, Muireann has found a way to dance without having others connect her to her family name. At a local tavern, they have several dancers to accompany the musicians who play to give the popular gathering place some ambiance; many of the dancers do not reveal their identities, dancing under fake names and hiding beneath elaborate costumes. Muireann originally got a job there as a server, but under the name Rosella, she also became a dancer.

For a long time, it was only the tavern owner that knew her name, and he didn't care about dancing prowess. He just appreciated having another dancer in the rotation, and if he recognized what family she came from, he didn't say. That changed when one particular ship came to port.

Muireann will never forget that ship's name: the East Rose. It was a peculiar name for a ship, not one you could easily forget. But it was a sailor on board that made the ship so memorable to her in particular. He told her his name was Jesse, though Muireann has no way of knowing now whether he told her the truth about that. She has no way of knowing if he told her the truth about anything.

He was the first lion to recognize her despite her costumes. As a server, they had flirted a bit, but that was the way things normally went in the tavern. The servers were used to flirting with customers in order to make extra money. Muireann had certainly been a bit more honest in her feelings when flirting with Jesse, but she hadn't thought that he genuinely reciprocated any of it. It was a reality she was used to...but he surprised her. For the first time since the East Rose had been in the harbor, Muireann was scheduled to dance, and after the show, Jesse and a few other sailors had come to praise the ladies. Several gave them flowers, including Jesse, but it was only when Muireann got home that she saw who it was addressed to.

Not to Rosella, the lioness Jesse ought to have believed was up there dancing, but Muireann.

When they spoke again, Muireann was terrified, afraid he might know the family she came from and think she was a failure. After all, some of her family danced for royalty, and here she was wasting her life away at a tavern in a small harbor town. Instead, he gave her a silver necklace, and told her she danced beautifully. It was then that Muireann really fell for him. How could the pale lioness not? Her entire life, she had feared others knowing that she was the one dancing under the mask and frills, but Jesse knew, and he wasn't rejecting her.

Her eyes were constantly lingering on him, whether she was serving or dancing on stage. Any free moment she had, she spent with him, hoping he'd stay with her. When the topic came up, he always told her that he would return to sea, but she hadn't believed it. The summer they spent together was pure bliss, and Muireann was so sure she'd finally found her footing. She had someone who loved her, who helped her feel confident in her own abilities, and she was certain that was how life was meant to be.

But as the autumn winds came in, he was gone. One night, he was there, and the next morning, he and the East Rose had disappeared.

Perhaps that is why Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) has made its home in Muireann's heart as her favorite song to dance to. Though she has never performed the piece, she has sung it quietly to herself as she's wandered the night alone, dancing through the shadows like a ghost in glimpses of moonlight. Much like Brandy, Muireann has entertained several hearts, but the only one she ever wanted was the one she could never have, for his heart would never be able to leave the sea.

Life in the small harbor town after that point lost its spark. Muireann left both of her positions at the tavern shortly after his departure, unable to muster the energy to go through the motions any longer. Not much longer after that, she left the town, drifting aimlessly throughout the world. She belonged to nothing but the wind and the trees and the sky, giving those who asked for it the name Rosella and never staying in one place for too long. She dances, but there's a beautiful melancholy to it that wasn't there before.

Some might say that she finally possesses the skill one would expect with someone whose family was so renowned for dancing, but no one seems to understand the cost it came at.
