Cat Name- Albatross That Calls Loudly
Gender- Male
Rank- Kati <warrior>
Clan- The Tribe Of Endless Water
Age- 25 moons
Prompt-
He thought it wouldn't happen to him. Until it did. Blue had always warned him of the ocean- how she protected the balance of life, not individuals. She was their giver, not their saviour. And Albatross was in desperate need of saving. He'd come out here countless of times, but she'd always told him- not beyond the reef. But the ocean was so vast. The dark blue below him sent his adrenaline pumping, his pulse skyrocketing. It was as if he was swallowed by the place he called home, so effortlessly apart of it. Albatross flipped on his back and gazed at the surface with half-lidded eyes, letting himself sink a little in utter bliss.
That's when the waves picked up.
And picked up.
And picked up.
The tom broke the surface, gasping for air before he was forced under once more, nearly choking in saltwater before he stopped himself. If he took in water he was dead. Freshwater would be fine, but saltwater did awful things to the lungs. Too much, and he was a goner. So Albatross opened his eyes, an unwelcome pang of terror seizing his chest when he realized he couldn't see the edge of the reef anymore. He frantically made his way to the surface, his lungs beginning to scream for oxygen. He was too new to swimming for this, anyone else except for a kit could've handled it no problem.
When Albatross finally reached air once more, he managed to stay afloat long enough to breathe in deeply. As he did, his wide eyes searched frantically for land. Pleasepleasepleaseplease..
There.
With a near-choked cry of relief, Albatross took one more breath and plunged beneath the surface.
He'd learned his lesson. The tom hacked up water, dragging himself a few more steps before he collapsed in the sand, muscles screaming with effort to keep himself from being pulled back in. He was too exhausted to acknowledge the she-cat when he felt teeth gently tug on his scruff, dragging him through the sand and away from the waves. He frowned when Blue's wide eyes leveled to his, her head tilted inquisitively. "I don't want to talk about it."

prompt: going way to close to mountain lion cubs because she
thinks they're the cutest things ever and then... mama comes along
—
My tail began to waggle with excitement, and i couldn't help but jump to my paws, the corners of my mouth tugging upwards. I began to hum a sweet melody. It started slow at first, then began to get louder and louder, until I burst out into song. "Springtime, springtime, love is in the air. O' springtime, baby kitties everywhere!" My nose twitched at the scent of, well, mountain lions. B-b-but they were just babies! It's not like they'd claw my eyes out or anything! So, it a little peek at their furry-wurry faces couldn't hurt anything. I raced through the forest, following my nose and my heart, letting my feet take me to the cubs.
I slowed my pace as I approached, in fear that I might frighten them. But it was me who began to feel anxious as I found myself standing before a den. My whiskers tingled and single instinct in me told me to turn back. Wild, wild animals. Wild animals! Scary animals! But, I forced myself to take a step forward, my snout pushing at the overhanging leaves. My face poked through, and I found myself staring at a real life, baby cougar. Their fur was an excellent creamy color, their ears so perfectly rounded, and their fuzzy faces wore their closed eyes and pink tongues. My blue eyes went wide, and my pupils grew big to adjust to the dark. "They're like mini-me's." I blinked. Then they began to fumble around, playing with each other and—
"Aweeeee!" I screeched, and they began to mewl. "No, no, shh. It's okay. Don't cry." Panicked I, running in circles. After a moment, I took a deep breath and went in, cuddling up to them. "See, you're safe." They began to quite down and I let out a sigh of relief. And that's when I heard it. Footsteps. thump, thump, thump. My heart literally stopped, and I froze for what felt like minutes.
The sound of the mama's approaching got louder and louder, and I snapped out of my fear, leaping back into action. "Bye-bye baby mountain lions, crazy auntie Skye's gotta dash!" I yelled, running for my life as fast as I could. I heard a loud growl. A deep growl. I moved at speeds I didn't know I could.
I skidded to halt when I felt I was far enough, panting heavily. "Think I should be safe." snap! I squeaked, jumping up and running again for another several minutes.
Little did I know, that second time was just a rabbit. [429 words]

based off my recent experience: i got stuck hiking in the dark and my brother shone his phone into the darkness, and we saw these little lights that seemed they were apart of a ufo or something then they started blinking and looking and us and we were like screaming "REFLECTIVE EYES" and we just screamed at them and sang loudly until they went down the mountain. also, this whole hike was on a cliff and on our way back we had to make sure to check the pitch black hillside for eyes which is like what the heck?
we both know very well we saw a mountain lion and her two cubs that night but we're trying to tell ourselves they were just foxes

Sorry for judging this late!
Both your entries were great, which made choosing a winner really hard!

Congrats!
I love that you connected the prompt to a real-life experience,
and I can definitely see this cat as a "crazy auntie Skye," lol.
Because choosing a winner was so difficult, I'd also like to award a RU to Endlessechoes!
I could really feel Albatross's terror as the water pulled him under, and your piece was very well-written.
I'll have your RU posted in the next few days!
