ever seen an angry cat? yeesh, it can be ugly. now, ever seen an angry cougar?

well, maybe that'd make for a cool story, but there was no cougar involved. no type of cat, actually.
thrain is a very bold and curious hound. unfortunately, he is also clumsy... and sometimes his mouth
works faster than his brain. sometimes, by the time the gears have finished turning, the porcupine
has already turned and slapped a face full of quills into your face.

ouch.

a vet visit and a couple stitches later, thrain now has a cool scar and a not-so-fun reminder that big,
pointy rodents aren't meant to be chewed on.

not to mention the time he dug a hole under the gate and got the skin of his neck caught on a sharp
wooden post. more stitches, another neat scar. except, it's not so neat when it hurts.

and those gnarly ones on his side?

be careful not to scratch yourself too roughly when you have a skin condition...

prompt: Sadly, Axel was the dog of a man who had collected dogs just for the sad truth of Dog Fighting. The owner didn't have the skill of seeing what was wrong with Dog Fighting, but had the determination to be the 'king' of the dog fighter group he was in. He certainly did not gain that role though, as he tried so hard, *ahem* too hard with Axel. Axel is a sweet boy, but was put in with the most aggressive Great Dane he'd seen. Every idea was tried to calm him, but the aggression was too tempting for the poor dane. Axel was scarred to the floor many times, rammed into the concrete wall, and fell under the Great Danes menacing claws. After the 'show' had been over, police and the SWAT team detonated their way armored bodies through, obstructing the only way out and aiming their guns at every single sorry soul that had been staring with a deadly fear. A secret team of dog rescuers made their way in from the back, equipped with a small team of SWAT members they assembled. Once every dog was rescued, Axel was the worst at the time. But after a few months, every dog was fixed up, loved, cared for, had the best life and all the aggression had gone. Axel had now become friends with a number of the dogs he'd met, and still believed in the ones he'd lost from the fights. Oh, not to mention, every dog fighter there had been put to jail for life, because of dog abuse and other problems. Axel and the Great Dane, now called Burly, they got to meet up with each other every week and play for hours. DON'T ABUSE DOGS!

At the height of her glory, Fury was known as the best poacher tracker of her breed. She had spent days chasing trails and had a hundred percent catch rate. Her successes, however, put a bounty on her head and many tried to collect, and with her out of the way there was the potential for lots of money to be made.
The first attempt was lacking, the poacher had brought their own dog in to try to take her out. The dog was not unlike herself in size and stature, but he lacked the strength and determination to phase her, after a brief skirmish, she sent the dog and the poacher away with tails between their legs but earning some scars around her eye and down her neck.
The second time was mostly an accident. Fury and her handler had been looking for any suspicious activity when they came across a lioness stuck in a bear trap, the jaws of the contraption sunk deep into her leg but not beyond healing if help came soon enough. Her handler left to get a dart gun in order to sedate and treat the lioness and had left her in charge of guarding the feline. The day was hot, so she did her hidden in the shade of high grass. When the hunter arrived, he didn't know Fury was even there. Rushing out of the under growth, she attacked the hunter fiercely defending her charge. In her haze of battle, however, she forgot how close she was to the frightened, injured lioness and with a roar the cat had raked her claws down the dogs side while also chasing the hunter away.
She loves her work and will keep doing it, but she knows the risks now.

"When I was merely just a pup, my mother would always tell me not to go into the forest. I obeyed her for a short while, but soon my curiosity got the better of me. The forest was vastly different than it is today. It consisted of thick woods, so thick you could barely get around the trees in some spots. It was also very dangerous, especially for a small pup like me at the time.
I remember the day I decided to go into the woods so clearly, almost like it was yesterday. The wind was howling in the trees above me as I faced the towering trees. The leaves shook with mighty force, and for some reason, I still thought it was a good idea to go in. Every single thing was telling me not to go, but I still did. Eventually, after weaving through tree trunks and stepping over fallen leaves and branches, I wandered too far, and a large owl got me when I wasn’t paying attention. It's talons felt like searing hot metal, but I put up a fight. I bit that thing like my life depended on it, and it did. That awful bird dropped me from what seemed like the clouds, and knocked me out. When I eventually opened my eyes, I was home, and my mother was right there by my side, nursing my wounds.
Since I was young, I was hopeful that the scars would fade. But look at me now. I guess they aren’t all that terrible, but I sure wish I had stayed far away from those woods. It’s my biggest regret to this day.”
