dear santa:

truth be told, i hadn't wanted to write this because christmas is so close and there'd be little point in doing so. however, ianthe came by my room after telling me off earlier and threw one of her nicer pens and letter papers and told me to get writing. as you can probably see, i'm not going to listen to her and am going to write everything in my blue marker and on the paper that i've used to write out the punishment that i haven't even finished. i had to do that in pencil, but it's whatever. just ignore that! i forgot where i put my erasers.

the delacroix is a house of nobles, so i'm not sure why ianthe wanted me to write to you, but if it can get me out of my punishment, then so be it. for the record (even if this puts me on the naughty list!), i do not give three sh f damns about whether or not i get something. that's a lie please bring me something i'm a noble, it's an unbecoming trait to wish for what commoners have. this is why mother and father loves me more than ianthe, aside from the obvious thing with her coughing up flowers, as the first delacroix daughter of every generation is fated to. even so, she's still my big sis, and i'm still obligated to listen to her although not for long, if i can get out of this place

ahem! that being said, i have to make a wish for something, don't i? truthfully, i just want ianthe to stop being so distant with our family and recognize her heritage as the firstborn daughter of the delacroix. i wish she wasn't off all the time, messing around in her flower shop and falling head over heels for people she know she wouldn't be able to love. she's dumb, she's stupid, but at the end of the day, she's still my sister, you know? if she can't look out for herself, then her darling little sister has to do the job for her. i think my marker is dying. however, this might be difficult for you to accomplish, santa, and i don't blame you for it at all. my favourite blue pen just died. i'm inconsolable. i don't want to write this letter anymore but my parents didn't raise a quitter.

i've seen the way she looks at nikolai and haruto. i know what she wants, but she can't have it because of her destiny. she's always talking about family this and family that, but one day, i hope she realizes that the only family she'll ever truly have is her blood kin. sometimes it hurts to know that your own sister values strangers more than her own family. and so, if making her change her ways isn't possible, then i'd like to request a picture frame - as big and fancy of a frame if possible! if my family refuses to patch itself back together, then i'll have to do it for them. it might be childish, wishful thinking, but can't i at least delude myself into thinking that everything is okay? i don't really hate nikolai or haruto, but seeing them fills my mouth with a bitter taste sometimes.

none of this changes the fact that i'm currently very cross with ianthe, though!!! she's such a hypocrite, telling me that i can't hang out with eirlys or aethelind but then turning around to be with nikolai and haruto. i hate having friends that are similar to me. opposites attract, don't you see? i like that eirlys is so different... she's not a noble she's a bonafide commoner! can you imagine????? and she works hard to survive every day, but she does so with a smile on her face. she's kind of a trickster, but i don't she has ever meant me any harm. aethelind is......... more difficult to figure out, admittedly, but i don't think that she's a bad person, necessarily. she's kind of an oddball of a noble, but she recently went missing and that's scary. MY BLACK MARKER IS RUNNING OUT TOO DAMMIT. i miss talking to her.

actually, if ianthe refuses to take a picture with the entire family, then i could put the frame to use by having a picture with eirlys? no doubt, our parents and ianthe would finally agree on their disagreement with my decision, but that can't sway me. my black marker just died too. i really need more. actually if it's not too much trouble, santa, could you bring me that big frame and some extra markers for me to use? i'm confined to this tiny pencil... we have thin and meager pickings... times are hard and i'm trying my best with this family feud.

seriously i wish they'd just fu address the dumb elephant in the room already. it's so stupid.

now i feel a little stupid for dumping all of these feelings onto here. i haven't really had anyone to talk to about this, as aethelind is nowhere to be seen and i know eirlys would just blow me off regarding """noble""" matters. she's nice but she acts like a cretin sometimes. thanks for hearing me out, santa, i guess? you don't have to do anything i mentioned here actually, it's kind of embarrassing. remove all of this from your mind right now and forget this ever existed although i'd still be very happy if you took time out of your day to read and consider all of this in its full, childish, ramble-ish glory of a little kid.

Adaline's always had quick wit and a dry sense of humor, and some say it's because she had to grow up so fast. Plonked in the foster home at the age of nine, she very quickly busied herself with taking on a motherly role towards the younger children. Adults are often surprised at how calm and rational she can be, even in such circumstances, but they also praise her way of thinking. They say she's wise for her age, but she doesn't think of herself like that.

She has a deeper sense of understanding that most of the other kids don't. She can understand that people can make mistakes and have good intentions at the same time. While many people can't, she finds it easy to forgive people. She doesn't forget, but she can forgive.

She's also the type of girl who, when she sees a problem, she tries to fix it. If something is broken, you fix it. If you have an issue, resolve it. If you need help with something,you you ask for help. If you can help someone with a problem, you help them. Dear Santa,

I hope you're doing well. I know it's a busy time of year, and it's part of the reason I'm writing to you now. I know there are lots of kids out there asking for bikes and dolls and puppies, but this year, I need something a bit different.

I need to borrow your identity.

Please don't freak out, it's not as bad as it sounds. And I know it sounds pretty bizarre.

Like I said, I know you're a busy man, what with flying around the world in one night (and I'm sure the reindeer act up sometimes). I can forgive you for not getting to everyone, and accidentally missing houses. I've been in the foster home long enough to know that adults make mistakes, and people say I'm wise for my age because I know this and can still forgive them. So I forgive you, Santa, for having a lot on your plate besides cookies. But the little ones...they don't know these things like I do.

And so comes to the request; I need to borrow your identity.

I know how busy you are, but the little ones don't. They just know that they don't get the presents they ask for, if they can get them at all. They don't get a Christmas like other kids do, and they're noticing that now. Life in the home isn't always easy but it's the only one we've got, so we've gotta make it good. Yes, the home does its best, but government funding only goes so far. It's not exactly extravagant living. But that's where you come in, big guy. Well - me pretending to be you, in a sense. Or even an elf costume would be appreciated. Elves play a very important part in present making, of course.

To save you some time and to save the younger ones some heartache, I think the best option for both of us is for me to take over your role at the foster home this year. I'm not asking to borrow the reindeer or to climb down the chimney. Just a way to make them feel special. Maybe some more decorations for the house would be nice. A costume of sorts, so I can dress up and surprise them. I know what they want, and what they need; I'll add the present list to this letter. I suppose I'll need some sort of sack to carry them in? One of the Mary Poppins ones you seem to use.

Now I don't want to be done for identity fraud, so some sort of written permission would be fantastic. Or if you're really not comfortable with me pretending to be you, again, elf costume would be great. Maybe you could even send one of your doubles over here? Like the ones you get to work for you at shopping malls. Someone with rosy cheeks and kind eyes and a nice smile. Someone who will listen to the kids and make them feel special and listened to.

While we're here, I suppose I should clarify that what I'm asking for counts as my present. Of course there are little things I'd love, like notebooks and coloring books and a snake (an actual one, not a toy one). But those are things I can have when I'm older. What I want right now is for this place to feel happy. That pure, sweet enough to make your teeth ache kind of happy that you see in holiday films. For the kids, for myself, for the adults. For all of us. I've thought long and hard about how to do that, and since I don't have any money, I figure this is my next best option.

So that's my pitch. I hope you'll consider my proposition and get back to me somehow. Letter, text message, email; whichever is easiest for you. I look forward to hearing your response, and even if this doesn't work out, I hope you still find a way to bring some holiday cheer to the home. Either way, the cookies will be waiting for you.
