Arctic Hunter [ 546 words ]
“…I kept following the tracks. They were so big and dug deep into the snow. So I walked and walked and walked and suddenly… I stopped”, he made s short pause in his story to build up the anticipation before continuing. “There was a river. Completely frozen in ice. I crossed to the other side, but there were no more footprints. It must’ve followed the river. It escaped. This time. But one day I will finally find it.”
“Woah” Moe was holding her breath until now, captivated by the story. “That was epic!”
“Amazing! You were so close to catching it!” Revas was equally excited.
The only one who seemed unimpressed and maybe slightly bored, was Sen.
“Guys, you don’t actually believe him, right? Yetis don’t exist.”
The other three looked at him with shock and disbelief.
“Of course they do! Have you not been listening to the story? Lua found one!”
“Yes and Lua is the best Yeti hunter in the world! Everyone who knows anything about Yetis knows his name.”
“The only Yeti hunter too! He’s amazing, he was saved by one when he was a cub!”
Moe and Revas were almost shouting over each other in their excitement to talk about the heroic tale of the Yeti hunter.
“Right! When he was just a cub he fell into a lake when the ice broke underneath his paws” Moe tried to sound mysterious. “He thought that surely he was dead, as there was noone around to save him. But whats this?” Revas gasped. “He felt something grab the scruff of his neck, something big and strong! He was fished out of the water and dropped onto the snow, but when he wanted to thank his saviour, he only saw a bit of big, fluffy white creature disappearing into the distance.” She finished as if that settled the deal and confirmed everything.
Lua sat with a hint of a smile on his face, slowly nodding his head along to the story. His great white mane covered his eyes. You could think he was asleep.
“It was a Yeti” Revas whispered to Sen in case he needed clarification, as the lion still looked sceptical.
“That’s exactly how it was. Since that day I’ve been searching for the Yeti to thank it for saving my life. But that’s not all. Yetis have a bad reputation of being mischievous and brutal, but they’re just misunderstood. Except for a couple that are very evil, I will hunt those down” he said the last part very quickly and more quietly than the rest of his speech. “I want to clear their name so they no longer have to hide. I want to expose them for the magnificent, gentle creatures they truly are!” Lua stood up, proudly puffing out his chest with his head held high.
“Such a noble quest!” Moe nearly teared up. “A true hero has blessed us with a visit!”
“You can do it, Lua! You are the best Yeti hunter! If there’s anyone who can track one, it’s you!”
Sen had to use all of his mental strength not to roll his eyes. Lua sat back down, a slight smile returned and his voice became dreamy and soft once again.
“Would you like to hear another story?”
