E43:MistleFoe™️
Jasiri was walking down the beaten path to the emblem tree to talk a small relaxing nap and to clear his thoughts from his daily duties. He had curled up cozily in the massive roots and didn’t realize a lioness was tying mistletoe and lanterns alongside beautiful leather bows in the tree.J took a small nap while continued working,he didn’t even realize she was up there decorating still. He Soon was awoken by a massive lioness crushing him to the ground.Jasiri growled and quickly flipped her off of him while pinning her down. The two pride members started grappling with each other thinking they were enemies before they came to a realization they were the best of buds.J quickly let her go and laughed at the situation before he was nudged. They had been fighting under the mistletoe the entire time. His face heated up...well he did like her but he was scared to show it.So he quickly booped her nose with his and ran off to his den where he hid all night.
[169/150]

E44: I wish I may...I wish I might...
Elea sat there on the edge of the clearing gazing up at the beautiful midnight starry sky.Granted it was past his bed time but he didn’t mind, he had been sleeping but he had a massive night mare and needed to clear the air.He continued watching the galaxy washed sky and smiled at a star shooting by. Elea gaped as it continued to pass and quickly whispered out his wish.He wished for his adopted sister to not be so sad around the holidays and about her biological parents.El sat their shaking from the cold and felt his father curl up around him watching the stars for a bit before ushering him to the warmer den that was better then the warmth he could sustain. The family fell back asleep in the cozy den and slept till dawn.As Elea woke up he noticed his sister was in a better mood and much happier. His wish did come true!

Prompt Number: E45
Completed Prompt: Sekhmet wandered over to Pebble, who was on the outskirts of the mingling pride. He sat beneath an acacia tree, watching the couples.

"Hey," she greeted him.

"Hey," he responded, but the gray-speckled lion sounded distant.

She sat down next to him. "Should we join them?"

Pebble looked shocked. He turned to face her, blinking in surprise. "Wha--?"

Sekhmet winked at him and glanced up at the mistletoe that hung above their heads. "And what more perfect time is there to make it official than now?"

Pebble followed her gaze. He returned his gaze to Sekhmet, blushing.

She reached over and pressed their noses together. Pebble leaned into it, and they both lingered for a moment longer than they should have.

Sekhmet pulled back. "So? Shall we go join them?"

Pebble stood up and gave her a suave grin. "We shall." He twined his tail with hers, and they strode off together into the crowd. 152 words

Completed Prompt: Sekhmet and Pebble sat on the top of the cliff, gazing up at the stars. They had enjoyed the time with the other couples, but now they wanted to get away and really spend some time together.

As they watched the celestial bodies whirling in space, Sekhmet closed her eyes. The snow under her paws didn't feel all that cold when she was leaning against Pebble.

All of a sudden a streak of light shot across the sky. Sekhmet's eyes widened, but she immediately screwed them shut, remembering the tradition that she and Ibis had made up. I wish that Pebble and I will always be together...

"What are you doing?"

Pebble's voice brought Sekhmet back out of her fantasies. Blinking her eyes open, she grinned sheepishly up at him. "Wishing on a star?"

He laughed and shook his head. "Only you, Sekhmet."

Sekhmet nuzzled his shoulder. He didn't know her wish, but that was okay. Some wishes were better kept to herself. 162 words

Isra sat fuming in a far corner away from all the festivities. She couldn't understand why her pridemates made such a big deal out of this time of year. And the celebrations they held for it were beyond uncouth, Isra decided. Far too loud, with lions prone to getting overly and recklessly excited.

Suddenly, the tortoiseshell lioness' stomach growled, causing her to wince in embarrassment. Well, at least there was no shortage of food at these things. She rose to her paws and slunk haughtily through the party, keeping lions away from her with a sharp glare. Even when eating, most lions have her a wide berth.

Except, of course, for Fahm.

He has no issue sitting at her side to eat from an antelope with her. Isra doubted he had any brains under all that mane.

She looked around, quite put out with her current company, and noticed that the lions around them had grown strangely quiet, or were whispering among each other. While staring above she and Fahm. Isra slowly lifted her head, and found the dreaded plant hanging above her and Fahm.

Isra scoffed.

"As if I-" Before she couldn't finished her sentence, Fahm pressed his nose to hers. It lasted all of two seconds, but that was more than enough to sour Isra's mood. If Fahm somehow noticed through all that mane of his, he gave no inclination of it. He gave her a stupid, brainless, child-like, warm smile.

"Happy Hayahiba, Isra." The Admiral rumbled, before returning to his food.

Isra, her mouth agape in shock, simply rolled her eyes and padded away indignantly.

Completed Prompt:

"Aunt Udia!"

The charcoal lioness glanced down at her 'niece', who was staring up at the sky with wide, awestruck eyes.

"A shooting star!" The cub cried. "Look!!"

Udia quickly lifted her eyes skyward, and managed to catch a glimpse of the star trailing across the horizon. She laughed gently.

"Very good, Shula." Udia smiled, rasping her tongue affectionately over the orange cub's ear. "Make a wish."

"A wish?" Shula questioned. "Why?"

Udia laughed again. Sometimes she forgot how young he niece really was. "Because that's what you do when you see a shooting star." Udia explained. "Shooting stars are spirits of our ancestors, coming down to visit us. They might have time to grant your wish while they're here."

"Whoa!" Shula exclaimed, her inner eyes wide. "I wish for-"

Udia gently covered the cub's mouth with her tail. "Oh, no! You can't tell you wish to anybody!"

Shula shoved her aunt's tail away, largely unbothered. "Why not?"

"Because if you do, the spirits won't know you're asking them." Udia explained, motioning up at the stars. "They'll think you're asking whoever you tell your wish to, and leave without granting it."

That got through to the cub. She nodded and scrunched her eyes shut, evidently deliberating her wish. Udia smiles gently, then turn her attention back to the stars. Should she make a wish?

Before Udia could decide, Shula was bouncing up the her. "Can we stay out a little bit longer?" She asked excitedly. "I wanna look for more shooting stars!"

Udia smiled. She nuzzled Shula affectionately, hugging the cub close to keep her warm in the chill of night. Shula snuggled up to her chest, eyes watching the stars intently. "Just a few more minutes." Udia promised.

Prompt Number: E45
Completed Prompt:
Princess Nthanda walked around the clearing, enjoying the celebration and seeing everyone having fun. Her bodyguard Ravi was close as usual. Her father now insisted she not be left alone much outside of her chambers. While it was annoying she at least enjoyed Ravi's company, having been friends with him for some time now.

"Isn't it all beautiful," she commented.

"Yes it is, Princess."

"Ravi, you know I'd rather you just call me Nthanda when we aren't in front of everyone," she reminded him. Despite their position she didn't want to completely lose their friendship.

"Alright, whatever you say." The other lion smiled sightly.

"Thank you." Nthanda smiled a little. "Ooh, look at that!" She hurried over to a table with a beautiful piece of glasswork on display.

Ravi followed, glad to see she was enjoying this despite her father's strictness.

"It's beautiful," she said, studying the colors.

"That one almost matches your eyes," he commented, gesturing to a blue piece of glass.

"Oh it does." She looked up at him, smiling slightly. But before she could say anything else her sister's voice interrupted her thoughts.

"Well well, what do we have here?" Khalida stood there, seeming almost amused as she gazed at them.

"We were just looking at the glasswork," Nthanda said, not sure what her sister was getting at now.

"Under the mistletoe?" Khalida tilted her head, smirking a little.

Both lions glanced up and sure enough a little bit of mistletoe hung from a branch above them.

"Why would they hang that there," Nthanda muttered.

"For fun," Khalida said, giving her a pointed look then looking not to subtly at Ravi.

Nthanda followed her gaze and for a moment the princess and her guard just stared at each other, each caught up in their own thoughts.

"Yeah, we better get going," Ravi finally said, shaking his head.

"Yes, of course." Nthanda stepped away from the table and Khalida gave her an almost frustrated look, which she ignored.

But Nthanda just kept walking around, Ravi following quietly behind her.

Prompt Number: E46
Completed Prompt:

Khaida lay there, staring up at the starry sky. It was a beautiful night really, not that she usually took the time to appreciate it. But she had just learned her sister would be leaving soon to meet her future mate. Probably some terrible old lion who couldn't find a suitable wife some other way.

Her tail lashed in irritation at the thought. She knew she'd miss her sister, but even more she'd worry about her, not knowing what her new home would be like.

As she lay there contemplating all of this a shooting star crossed the sky above her. She recalled something her mother had said once, about wishing on such stars. Maybe it was real, or maybe it was just a story. The latter seemed more likely. But right now anything seemed worth a try, so she closed her eyes and as hard as she could she wished for her sister's happiness and safety.

Once she had done that she opened her eyes. Maybe her wish would come true, maybe not. But she knew one thing, whatever happened she'd do anything she could to protect her sister. Anf as far as she was concerned that was more reliable than waiting on any star.

E45 wrote:For all his bravado, Kusafiri wasn’t as confident as he often made himself appear to be. For all his acting confident, he was not all that secure in how he was perceived. This was especially true when it came to Maji, the lioness whose life he technically saved. She always seemed to bring out a side of him that he never intended for anyone to see: a vulnerable one, where he wasn’t completely in control. Something about her just clouded his head. It was a problem, and yet he loved her anyways.

But by the rose, he had no idea what to do with the confident lioness, especially when he was standing beneath mistletoe with her. “So...” he trailed off as he awkwardly shifted his weight from side to side, “um, should we just-“

Maji chuckled. “You’re not scared, are you, Kusafiri?”

“No!” His response was a bit too quick to not be suspicious. “I just-“

Maji didn’t let him finish, pressing her nose against his got the briefest of seconds. Kusafiri’s eyes just widened further as she pulled back and gave him a pleased grin, eyes twinkling with mischief. “Can’t believe it took going under mistletoe to actually accomplish that.”

“Wait, what?” Kusafiri thought he couldn’t have heard her right, but Maji chose not to elaborate, heading off to be with the rest of the pride. “Hey, Maji!” He bounded off after her, determined to get an answer.
Ua sat beside her sister away from the rest of the pride, looking at her with sad eyes. Her sister was so angry; it made her sad. Jino’s claws kneaded at the ground, frustration evident.

“I just want to know,” she hissed, tail lashing. “Who did it?”

“It’s the holidays, Jino,” Ua said tiredly. “Can we please just enjoy it? Just this once?”

“It’s the time of remembering. I’m just remembering what happened to us. Why aren’t you more indignant?”

Ua sighed and deigned not to answer, instead staring up at the sky. As she did, a star flew past in the sky, and against her better judgement, Ua made a wish. Please, I wish that just this once, Jino would let it go and have fun. Just for once in our lives, I wish she could forget about it.

As if Jino could hear her sister’s silent wish - and maybe she could, Ua didn’t know - Jino stood up with a sigh, nudging Ua to her feet. “Come on, stop pouting. Let’s go sit down there if you really want to, but I’m not gonna be happy about it.”

Ua bounces to her feet and grinned. “Thanks, Jino!” She turned and began to rush away to the group too quickly to notice Jino’s tiny smile at her sister’s enthusiasm.
“Come on, Ora, keep up!” The ashen lioness darted through the undergrowth, the orange lioness not far behind her. There wasn’t much prey to catch, but the pride’s bellies were full with deer and fish, so the only huntresses in the pride had the opportunity to relax, to enjoy each other’s company.
Ora’s lips curled over her teeth, pushing herself harder to catch up with the cream-coloured lioness. Bunching her muscles, she launched herself in a final ditch effort, and, to her delight, she collided with the other lioness’ body, sending them both tumbling to the ground. Breathy laughs danced through the cold air as the pair rolled and tussled, each trying to pin the other beneath themself.
After a number of moments, the orange lioness found herself trapped beneath Ashara’s body, unable to escape.
“I win.” Ashara smiled, her expression a mixture of playfulness and pride. Ora merely snapped her jaws in response, flopping herself downwards onto the cool ground.
Ashara stepped backwards allowing Ora to sit up.
“You got lucky.” Ora snarled playfully, shaking out her fur. At the lack of response, she turned to the other, brow furrowing lightly. Ashara was always quick with responses, sharp with her wit, and so Ora couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong to leave her muted in the face of a comeback.
The cream lioness’ golden eyes were skyward, focusing on something above them, and, as Ora watched her, she could see the lead hunter’s nose becoming pink, a blush colouring the pale skin. Ora’s green eyes soon followed their gaze, and she spotted what it was that embarrassed the other female.
Mistletoe clung to the branches above them, the round plant with white berries sprouting in a way that was absolutely unmistakable. Simultaneously, both lionesses dropped their gaze, landing in an eye contact that sent a spark through Ora’s skin. The orange lioness could hear her heartbeat thundering, almost sure that the other lioness could see it attempting to burst from her chest.
Both seemed to be locked within an internal dialogue, both screaming “should I or shouldn’t I?” within their internal monologue. It was barely a heartbeat’s hesitation, but, to the pair, it felt like millennia, but, with a flash, it was over. Ashara had closed the distance, pressing her nose against the other lioness’ with both a nervous hesitance and a fervour.
Ora froze, eyes wide and mouth agape, even as the other lioness stepped back.
“I... I’m sorry-” Ashara stuttered, but Ora didn’t allow her to finish, pressing her muzzle against the lead huntress’ nose with an equal desperation. Ashara couldn’t help but laugh, a breathy sound, and pressed her forehead against the other lioness’, the pair just remaining in the quiet.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.” She murmured, earning a laugh from the orange female.
    “Oh, I do.”
    479 words

    Completed Prompt: E46
The night was quiet, and unusually clear. Both Sky Watchers had taken this opportunity, disappearing up to the Sky Plateau before Sarasa could give them any menial scout or guard task. Their job was particularly difficult in the rainy winter, so they needed all the readings they could get.
    Or so they told him.

They sat, back to back, eyes both violet and scarlet raised to the skies above them. They studied the constellations, earning nothing back in return. The weather promised to remain steady, no drama arising in the pride’s future.
    And then they saw it.
Flashing across the clear sky, a pale trail dragging itself behind, ran a shooting star, and both lion’s stood up. Kuhani’s expression lit up with delight, whereas Usizi’s fell to a clear disappointment.
“A great omen!” Kuhani exclaimed giddily, earning an incredulous look from the other Sky Watcher.
“What?” Usizi began, “It is a negative omen, Kuhani! The stars themselves are fleeing!”
“No!” Kuhani got along well with the other lioness, but this was something she was sure of. “It is a positive omen! The stars are dancing for us!”
It took a little while, but eventually Kuhani won the other Watcher over. It was, indeed, a positive omen, one that brought good news to the pride...
But the Sky Watchers didn’t know that part yet!

Completed Prompt:
Rem was hanging out near a mistletoe hanging at their headquarters. He wasn’t being creepy, no, at least that’s what he told himself. He lived here, he had a right to be here. It wasn’t weird. Was it? No. He was just waiting. Waiting for Moe to thank her for healing him the other day. The mistletoe just happened to be here while he waited. Yes. That’s how the story went.

Moe was the nicest lioness he’s ever known. She was sweet and kind to him ever since the first day they met. He was meaning to thank her for some time now, but was too shy about it. Finally he’d have a chance.

Suddenly he felt warmth on the side of his face and a loud “smootch!”.

“You were standing under a mistletoe.” Moe laughed after kissing him. “Happy holidays! See you around.”

And she left, leaving Rem feeling very embarrassed and very happy.

Prompt Number: E46 [ 260 words ]
Completed Prompt:
“Ohh, oh! A shooting star! Make a wish, quickly!”

Akumu and Sen exchanged confused looks. Neither of them believed in magical stars anymore, not since they were cubs.

“I think I’ll wish for this mission to be over so I can go home. Oh look, it’s being granted right now!” with a smug smile Akumu turned around and started walking away.

“What will you wish for, cap?”

“I don’t really believe in this sort of…”

“Make a wish! Make a wish! Make a wish!” Moe was clutching her paws and looking at him with such intensity he gave in to pressure.

“Alright, alright.” Sen closed his eyes for a second, his muzzle facing the sky. “Done.”

“What did you wish for?!”

“Shouldn’t I keep it a secret?”

“Naaaaah, I won’t tell anyone so technically it will still be a secret. Between the two of us” she winked, wagging her tail in excitement.

“I wished for Lasan and all of us to be healthy.”

“Oh.” Moe sounded disappointed. “I thought it would be something lame like that.”

“Lame?!”

“I mean, it’s admirable and all, I was just hoping for something more fun or personal.” She had a cheeky smile and a glint in her eye again. “But I expected you’d wish for the war to be over.”

“I don’t think one wish will be enough to stop a war” Sen looked at Moe and smiled. “But hopefully it’ll help keep us healthy.”

She nodded in agreement, smiling back.

“I’m sure it will! I wished for a big cake. Like really big.”

It's pretty nice. Astrona was so kind to share her camp for the end of year festivities. Blue feels a twinge of regret for not wanting to stay-- but he's not one to be sucked into camp life, really. The young tigress was eager to find out what sorts of things are common and tried her best to set up her camp in that way.

There isn't much of anything here but considering it's just Astrona, Davíd, Blue, and Laura. Blue can't help much, anyways-- so it's mostly Astrona and Davíd working. The decorations are some furs scattered around the camp, a fire pit was dug and a medium-size fire crackles in it.

"Look, Blue! Berries!" Laura bounds over and gestures to something over Blue's head. Blue looks up. Is that... mistletoe?

Blue scoffs just as Davíd comes over and nuzzles him. "Looks like we're caught under the mistletoe."

"That's ridiculous-- I've been in the same spot the entire time. Someone put it there."

[164/150]

E46

"Look, Davíd! A shooting star!" Laura is still awake even though it's late. The day's festivities have kept her up, much too excited to go to sleep right now with the fire still going. Blue and Davíd are stretched out on the same fur with Davíd's niece curled up between them. The warmth of the fire keeps the cold night at bay.

Davíd rolls over and cracks open an eye to catch the tail end of the shooting star streaking across the black sky. "Oh, make a wish, Laura!"

"Why?"

"Shooting stars are gifts from the gods. It means that one of them just sent a star floating down to the earth-- and they're listening right now."

Blue listens as closely as the cub does. He's never heard of that explanation before. He was always told it was old stars who no longer had the life in them to stay up and were discarded by the night goddess, Nyx.

"Okay! I wished for--"

"You're can't share it, Laura. The wish won't come true then."

Laura keeps quiet but the cub is practically vibrating with her secret now. Good luck getting her to sleep now.
