Welcome to Jay's long ramble on why she hates Sasha. Sit down because this might take a while for me to convey my hatred.
Gonna need to call Supernanny in on this one, we've got a case of bad parenting.


You might be wondering why I hate Sasha so much, but let me tell you my good friend. I have my reasons.
Sasha lived her life as a kittypet but decides that it is not right for her and runs away after her owners bite the dust, which, okay sure. She gets offered a place of safety from one of her kittypet friends but denies it because she thinks that her owners are coming back. Sasha then comes up with the master plan of running into the woods and making her own little den, only to be warned by a rogue that she shouldn't do that because the clan cats are evil and dangerous and would attack her: that she should not go looking for them and should stay as far away from them as she could. Remember this for later it is important
Guess what Sasha goes ahead and does, completely abandoning trying to look for her housefolk.
Hi Shadowclan
Sasha gets approached by Shadowclan patrol and even gets warned by the m that she should not be there and that she was best to leave the territory. Strike two for Sasha being warned about how dangerous the clan cats are. She would have left them alone but is attracted to this hunky tom cat. Tigerstar. She sits there and listens to him talking about the clans despite knowing that he is dangerous, why worry about danger when there's a hUNK.
And oh look, they are star-crossed lovers now. A cat who was previously looking for her housefolk abandoned that and a cat who is meant to hate outsiders also abandoned that. But oh?? What's this?? Sasha finds out that Tigerstar is dangerous??
That's funny, I don't remember learning that information?? Do you?? It's not like she was personally told twice or anything
Sasha runs away and decides that she wants to become a boat cat and suddenly remembers that her housefolk existed at one point. The boatman interests her because he looks a lot like her old housefolk. Funny how she only remembers them when the plot calls for it, I thought you cared about these people Sasha.
Oh and her name's Brownie now.
Well, was, Sasha discovers she's going to have kits and decides that for the best safety of both her and the kits is to go back into the forest.
Y'know, the same forest she left because it had dangerous cats in it. The same forest that had Tigerstar in it.
Sasha names her kits Hawk, Moth and Tadpole.
That's funny though, I don't recall her liking wild animals too much.
She tells her kits about her old housefolk and they come up with the masterplan to try and find out where they had gone and run into a house and Tadpole, the one named after an aquatic animal, drowNS.
Thanks Sasha for telling them all about your housefolk when you could have just stayed at your old house the entire time because there was going to be someone there to take care of you.
That's right, her old owners had sent someone to the house to care for Sasha but noo, that's not good enough for Princess Sasha over here.
Tadpole's dead but Sasha shrugs it off because she has two other kits, what's the big deal with losing one kit.
As if being near the forest wasn't bad enough, Sasha then decides to go into one of the clans. Riverclan. A clan that is surrounded by water, something she JUST lost one of her kits too, and the clan that paired up with Shadowclan. The clan she denied going into because of Tigerstar.
Sasha stays there for a while and things look like they're going well but then out of the blue remembers she doesn't like the clans and leaves her kits in Riverclan. A clan that didn't want them there to begin with.. A clan surrounded by water, something both Hawk and Moth are afraid of. Sasha leaves her kits without any parents in order to 'protect' them from finding out who their father is.
Well, she would have if she didn't return back later and try to blackmail Hawkfrost and Mothwing. She's most likely the reason that Hawkfrost turned bad, as upon hearing that her kits didn't want to come with her she told them that Tigerstar was their father. The one thing she didn't want to tell them. And they still don't end up coming with her and that results in Hawkfrost turning evil ( :
Sasha then just leaves again because apparently nothing is pleasing for her and she would rather just travel around because settling down somewhere doesn't seem appealing for her.
Maybe if she had just settled down somewhere none of this would have happened ( : ( :
A lot of people pity Sasha but?? Why?? She's a v er y unlikeable character who can't make up her mind and does as she pleases and when that doesn't work she tries to blackmail people into giving her what she wants. I'll never see why so many people like her.

i can't stand bluestar! i think she was cruel with how she was willing to get rid of her kits to become leader. she was dismissive and rude towards the end of her life as well. i can see how some may like her, but to me she feels somewhat superficial with how she could drop other cats to get what she wanted. i feel like her character was pushed too hard to be to good perfect troubled backstory leader and that ended up ruining her potential as a great cat. the way she treated cats versus her power makes me feel like she doesn't really care about her clan, only that she leads it. she could probably throw some of her warriors into a battle she knows she wouldn't win because she feels nothing about them. firestar was such a striking difference from her that i was shocked as a kid to realize they were both supposed to be good. she really did have incredible potential with her backstory and emotional problems but they were never explored fully, which is honestly a tragedy in and of itself.

When I’ve that this prompt is about your least favorite cat, one name appeared in my mind.
dang. Spottedleaf. Oh boy, get yourselves ready, cause I’m about to dump 5 kilograms of salt on you.

So what comes to your mind when you think about Spottedleaf’s life in ThunderClan. Maybe her wisdom? Or her interesting story arc? Nothing! She died in the first book and all we knew about her that she was a medicine cat and that she was hot. That’s it! Throughout her life she was nothing more, than someone to ship Firepaw with. She died before the story even really started. Yet she seems to be such a big deal in Starclan, despite never accomplishing anything and being hot does NOT count as an accomplishment. At least most of the important Starclan cats have done something to be respected for, like when Yellowfang killed one of the biggest dictators in the history of clans (who also happened to be her only livning child) or when Leafpool found the moonpool. Many cats had much more meaningful sacrifices and accomplishments, but for some reason they put Spotted in charge of doing one of the most important duty of a Starclan ancestor, delivering the prophecies. And then she ends up stalking Firestar throughout his life because she has a CrUsH on him, even after he got himself a mate. She almost ends up ruining a SERIOUS relationships because she is acting like desperate teenage girl.
Now let’s talk about her own novella. Maybe her character got more interesting, right? RIGHT????? No. Just no. That book is so wrong in so many ways, but I’ll try to keep it appropriate, since I don’t want get yeeted out of CS.
But seriously what the hell were the Erins thinking!? Warriors is a book targeted toward 11-13 year olds, easily impressionable, young people. And they didn’t even make it obvious that what happened there was unhealthy and wrong. Like, training in the darkforest to get better at fighting is wrong, but what happened there is okay!? Okay, to be fair, she was young and naive and it was Thisle’s fault, but this ruined even that tiniest spark of fondness of Spottedleaf to me. Now I can’t even think of her without remembering the plot of this ‘masterpiece’ and cringing super hard. And the fact that she basically became medicine cat out of fear just completely goes against what we’ve seen in Into the wild, not to mention that this ‘I have to give up my dreams and become a med cat’ trope is way too generic (in TC Leafpool is the first main series character who wasn’t forced/pressured into being a medicine cat and so far also is the only one).
I usually don’t hate a character just because they are annoying (such as Berrynose or Clear Sky), as long as they are well-written and have some sort of reason to be kept around, because in the sea of perfect or almost perfect characters, it is so refreshing to see someone who is flawed and to see how do they shape to plot with their mistakes. But Spotted wasn’t meant to be this kind. The Erins meant to portray her as a sweet lil’ cinnamon roll who is always there for Fire, but backfired (pun intended) and ended up making her kinda creepy.

So to summarize my wonderful rant, in my opinion Spottedleaf went from an annoyingly two dimensional character, to just straight up cringy.

Prompt: Okay so this is going to be fairly spoilery. continue with caution

Ashfur.
I can not stand Ashfur.

During TNP he came across as a good cat. I could understand his frustration at Squirrelflight when she was making a fuss over whether to choose him or Brambleclaw. He tried to be a good cat and did everything a good warrior should do. But after she chose Brambleclaw over him, the writers changed his character so much that he was almost unrecognisable. He was a terrible mentor to Lionblaze during TPOT, who he was treating terribly when he’d done nothing wrong, which was completely unreasonable. Even if at the time everyone thought he was the kit of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, it wasn’t his choice to be their kit, therefore Ashfur should not have treated him in such a way.

Then the fire scene rolled along and made everything even worse. He said that his main quarrel had been with Squirrelflight rather than Brambleclaw. He was going to kill Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf to make Squirrelflight feel the pain she had made him feel. In my opinion, the death of three kits would hurt much more than seeing someone you love with someone else, no matter how much you loved them. Squirrelflight proceeds to reveal that they are in fact not her kits and Ashfur leaves. My one main issue with this scene is that even if the three were not Squirrelflight’s kits, she had raised them as her own, and killing them would still hurt her just as much as ever. Perhaps if he had killed the three I still wouldn’t like him, but at least it would make sense. Hollyleaf proceeds to kill Ashfur so that he doesn’t reveal the secret and I believe the authors said that he and Hollyleaf later forgave each other in Starclan.

This was a satisfactory ending for me. It was well rounded, had a good conclusion, and Ashfur’s character seemed as though it needed no further involvement in the series.

Then the latest books rolled around and all that was ruined.

Though at the moment it is largely speculation, the cat that is thought to be possessing Bramblestar is, you guessed it, Ashfur!

Now, this really irritates me. Ashfur had no need to come back. He was perfectly fine up there in Starclan, living a good afterlife and probably with a fair few friends up there. He didn’t have to posses Bramblestar. His role in the severing of contact between the five clans and Starclan had no purpose. It was not necessary, we do not want it, put your Ashfur toy back into the dead box and leave it there with all the other dead cats. He made up with Hollyleaf and, if Squirrelflight had stayed in Starclan like Leafpool, they probably would have made up with each other to some degree. His arc was finished, there isn’t anything else to add to it from this new development in things.

As with what happened after he broke up with Squirrelflight, if the mysterious cat is indeed Ashfur (as it most likely is), the writers have changed his character yet again. Before death he didn’t much care for the warrior code and was doing whatever he could to inflict pain upon Squirrelflight. Now, he is using the warrior code as an excuse to inflict pain upon the entirety of the five clans. It’s not the sort of thing I envision him doing, and this further ruins his character for me.

theres no argument that clear sky is a terrible, horrible person (cat??) and thats what makes him one of the best and most fleshed out villains of all arcs. ill separate into two categories about the bad and the ugly. ill try to remember what i can but since its been months since ive read DoTC i might mix some the timelines up.

the bad; from the very beginning, ive had a distaste of him. he seemed like a self centered jerk which only got worse when bright stream died and he gave the cold shoulder to gray wing. i mean really? blaming your brother for the death of your mate? who you knew was heavily pregnant? i dont suppose any of them were in the wrong but ever since then clearsky has a love of pointing fingers.

his first victim, aka the first cat hes dismissed, was his own brother. younger brother that is, jagged peak. sure jagged peak has hus flaws, but he was young and at the time when support and encouragement was needed the most. clear sky, knowing dang well that jagged peak is an irresponsible and reckless kid, literally does not care when his brother fell from a tree and broke his leg, becoming permanently disabled. now i know warriors is pretty ableist, but it boils my blood when clear sky dismissed his own brother, abandons him and titles him as 'useless' and 'no good to the clan' like......if i could i would swear the hell out of him.

fast forward to when gray wing introduced storm to him, and the two immediately ditched poor gray wing only to have a nasty breakup weeks later. that sucked to read, especially since i had a soft spot for gray boy. storm noticed his growing aggressiveness and obsession with protecting invisible lines and left. good on her honestly, she could do without a rotting branch of a mate. oh and lets not forget when he didnt hesitate to kill innocent kits. after happily killing an innocent mother, clear sky spotted two kits and was about to kill them next had it not been for petal. bless her.

now fast forward a few pages (hope i got the timing right if not rip) gray wing visits storm to check on her but the place shes living in suddenly collapses. although gray wing and turtle tai, make it out alive, storm and two of her kits sadly didnt. this is where thunder comes in, storms sole survivor. gray wing brings thunder to his dad, clear sky, because hey hes his son and surely clear sky will accept and love his own son right? wrong. clear sky pulls a spiderleg 2.0 (or i guess pre-spiderleg because he doesn't exist yet) and completely dismisses his own son.

kisses to gray wing for being an angel and taking his nephew in as his own. only for clear sky to manipulate thunder into joining his cult when hes grown strong and capable. i hated that scene so much. i hated reading clear sky use his charm and manipulative tactics to fishing thunder into his group. he knew gray wing couldnt do anything about it, thunder was his son after all, and used it tohi5s advantage to brinf one more strong and able bodied warrior to defend his lump of trees.

i find it funny how thunder left not long after after realising his dad is a huge jerk, goes to show that he cant keep anyone good in his life. except of course for his equally bratty wife whos half his age and his son's ex girlfriend. star flower, god how i despised her.

the ugly; now....onto the battles and deaths that this wonderful cat has caused. the first battles were caused by none other than clear sky and his hate for any other living, breathing creature. aka anyone who dares enters his pwecious wittwe fowest. more petty skirmishes start and the first major battle between the moor cats and forest cats, resulted by clear sky going on a rampage because the cat he starved and kept prisoner (albeit not against the cats will) caught a bat that wasnt even on King Clear Sky(tm)'s territory.

and what did clear sky do in that battle? kill a former tribemate that helped raise him and (nearly) kill his brother of course! oh and he was also the indirect cause of two siblings blinded by territory to kill each other. what a great guy.

clear sky finally got some sense into him but only after his two dead wives yell at him for being a pain to deal with. clear sky then goes to woe and enter a short emo phase.

and then theres the whole deal with one eye. unfortunately i dont have much time since i need to study but to summarise it all, basically bad cat becomes a member of clear skys group, bad cat reveals himself to be bad and takes over his group. after all that clear sky begs for help from his brother and returns the favour by falling in love with his sons ex gf and starts a family with her. lol.

oh and then clear sky, jagged peak and gray wings mom finds them somehow and tells clear sky off to which he goes "omg....ur right.....how was i so blind before.....?" and, as seen in later books, clear sky learns absolutely nothing from all this and still is the greedy and selfish cat we come to love/hate.

- Spoilers for Squirrelflight's Hope -

I just do not like her?? Probably in part due to the fandom being stuck on saying that she did nothing wrong (which is entirely untrue LOL). Weirdly enough, she is far more likable as a non-POV character! I did enjoy reading about her in The Silent Thaw, but in the books that she does have a POV I cannot stand her. She's presumptuous, prideful, annoying, entirely incompetent, and close-minded, to name just a few of her faults. She just grinds my gears LOL

In TNP alone, she was super judgmental of Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost- simply because Tigerstar was their dad (which she did state on multiple occasions), and was trying to control Brambleclaw, even after they had broken up by who he was allowed to talk to and what he was allowed to do. She lead Ashfur on largely in hopes of making her ex jealous, got angry at him for trying to defend her from Brambleclaw, picked fights with him and gets upset when Brambleclaw (obviously) doesn't want to talk to her anymore.

Her relationship with her mate was such a hot mess- she never communicated. She got angry and jealous when he was talking to his (albeit shady LKAJDSLFKA) half-brother because she thinks he might be a bad person (really only because Leafpool didn't like him) and whenever Brambleclaw stood up for himself, she got even madder. On top of that, Squirrelflight blamed him for the fights she caused. Her reasons for not trusting Hawkfrost largely boil down to "well my sister doesn't like him because he has bad vibes LOL" yet she still treated Brambleclaw like garbage for being friends with him. Even after the whole thing blew over, she never apologized.

The time they were happiest was when she was lying to him about the parentage of their children, to put it frankly.

In her own Super Edition, which was a hot mess by the way, she's hardly improved. She still cannot see the possibility that she could be wrong and instead blames others for the consequences of her actions. At the beginning of the book, the leaders call a gathering to discuss borders. Squirrelflight, a deputy who really doesn't have that much say in this, tells Leafstar that she thinks SkyClan should move further back from the lake.

She doesn't ask Bramblestar what his opinion on this is, when she really should have, seeing that he represents ThunderClan's perspectives and ideas. Squirrelflight is the deputy- not the leader. (Of course there was absolutely merit in the idea, but Bramblestar refuses to see this. But that's something for another time LOL)

But Squirrelflight is either not very smart or assumes that everyone will be on board with her idea regardless, so she provides her (largely unwanted) opinion anyways. She thinks that all the other clan leaders think like ThunderClan does (aka let's do something that benefits everyone and not just me), but they don't think this way because they're not very good people. She refuses to see that people think differently from her and believes that everyone has the exact same motives as she does.

With this unreasonable mindset, she therefore (metaphorically LAKSDJLFKAJS) throws SkyClan under the bus. The other leaders immediately jump on this idea and try to pressure Leafstar into moving further back from the lake, because it would benefit them personally.

Bramblestar is angry because Squirrelflight is doing exactly what he didn't want to happen- the other Clans pushing SkyClan around because they can, basically. However, she continues to not see anybody else's point of view except her own, because that's the only one she considers valid.

She argues with him in front of the leadership of the other clans (which is a really bad move, because this shows that the relationship of ThunderClan's leader and deputy is not doing well and could be easily taken advantage of). I would complain a bit about Bramblestar's unwillingness to see the possibility that Squirrelflight's idea could be useful, but this isn't about him.

Because Squirrelflight has no respect for Bramblestar, she abuses his trust, goes behind his back without basically even making an attempt to communicate with him, and goes to Leafstar to do what she wants to do (exactly what a deputy should not be doing. the deputy is there to support the leader, not undermine them). and throughout the book continually argues with Bramblestar publicly and refuses to communicate with him- even after it is shown that talking and communicating with him is ultimately better.

In fact it was at least partially her fault that the Clans attacked the Sisters in the first place! Had she and Bramblestar privately gone to Leafstar, they could have made a decision on her idea without anybody else pressuring them. And TBH? None of the other leaders would have thought of it because they're not that bright LOLLL

If Leafstar chose to explore the area, she would have taken a patrol and found the Sisters herself, and they could have been left alone until Moonlight was ready to move- the entire horrible book literally could have been avoided if Squirrelflight actually acted like a decent deputy. But she didn't, and ultimately paid the price.

In the end, her own incompetence and pride ultimately killed Moonlight and her own sister as well as endangered the lives of many others.
