favorite fall activity: (300/300)Colin had always been friends with Addison. Siblings, they called themselves. Brother and sister. He was there to support her when her sight began to fail, and there to welcome home her and Leonie's new kids. His niece and nephew, he referred to them as, and they called him their uncle. He loved spending time with them, he really did, but...some holiday activities were a little more wild than others.
If he'd known what putting his hand up to take them pumpkin carving all those years ago would mean, perhaps he would have thought twice. But it had been too long now, and the tradition was set in stone.
Shiloh was the sensible one - too sensible. Too scared to pick up a knife, fussing over what design to carve, feeling guilty about spooning out the pumpkin's insides. Half of his time was spent planning, and when he realized how far behind he was, it made him stress. The other half of his time was spent making sure everyone else was safe, and giving tips on knife safety.
Neave was the opposite. Give that girl something sharp, and she'd go to town on that pumpkin. The first would never stand a chance against her enthusiasm; she'd carve it until it fell apart in her hands, but it never bothered her. She took great delight in tearing open another pumpkin, and scooping out the insides with her hands.
Most of the time Colin didn't even get a chance to make his own; he was too busy making sure Shiloh actually made something, and that Neave didn't make too much of a mess.
He loved spending this time with them - secretly, it was his favorite thing to do in fall - but goodness, did he have his work cut out for him each year.
